Ax Radio/dash Lights Help!

Hi everyone, hoping someone can help

 

My friend has just bought a P reg citroen AX, which had a broken standard stereo in. He had an ollllllllld (twisty dial to tune radio!) philips cassette radio lying around so we have tried to fit it. The stereo works but now when he puts his lights on the dash cluster dials and the ashtray/heater dials dont illuminate, all the signal/warning lights still work though.

 

When we removed the old stereo, there were 4 wires going into the back, Im assuming they are live, switched live, ground and another wire (possibly to do with the illumination?). The "new" stereo only has a positive and negative input, so there are two wires spare. Does one of these need to be connected to something to make the dials light up on the dash again? Doesnt look like its a fuse blown.
