Hi All,
Im absolutely brand spanking new to this forum as im looking for some expert help and hoped someone might be able to help (please!).

Im currently trying to purchase a C3 , but im trying to identiy as to which model (or should that be trimversion it is.

The car is a C3 and is labelled as an "Exclusive" , it has cruise control, trip computer, climate control and was advertised as a 1.4 HDi . I understand there to be two different versions, a 70bhp and 90 (or 92) bhp. The main reason for the purchase is the mpg of the car (these things are excellent for mpg !!) The car is on an 03 plate and an AA car data check lists it as :

C3 EXCLUSIVE HDI 16V

I have given the reg number to the insurance company and they have it listed as

C3 EXCLUSIVE HDI 90

my first question is , are these the same ? and, is this the same version of car i am after , eg the 1.4 HDi ?

My second question is does anyone know what versions of "Exclusive" models were produced in early 2003 ? and have i got the right one ? Im looking for the one that gives out an mpg of 65 combined (though im sure they probably all give this)

Lastly, im trying to make sure my insurance isnt invalidated as i have a covernote for the HDI 90 and it might be a HDI 75 ???

Any help would be most appreciated..

Many Thanks

Damion

hi - and welcome to the forums.

I have a 52 reg 1.4HDi Exclusive - also with 92bhp.

The 16V is the same as HDi 90.

Your insurance is fine as the covernote states it is for a HDi 90, and that's exactly what you have!

Many thanks for your reply, bought the car and I must say quite impressed with it so far ! , not impressed that the coolant level light came on , will have to check that it doesnt KEEP coming on ! . Just topped it up a little and away it went ...

Yes C3 lad is right. THe 90bhp and 16 v are the same thing.

THe Exclusive was originally launched with 70 bhp engine in Jan 02 yet 6 months later the 92 bhp version replaced it (even though there was a brief production halt shortly afterwards).

Both models are very fuel efficient with the 70 (8v) averaging 67.3mpg and the 92 is "thirstier" at 65.7mpg.
Don't be put off - the longer 5th gear in the 16v version, puls bags more torque might make to bridge that gap.

Externally its impossible to tell which Exclusive has which engine unless you have a keen eye and can tell from the Reg plate as different model years had a different engine range. If you open the drivers door, there should be a white sticker telling you which engine has been installed. Lift the bonnet and the plastic engine cover should tell you.

Now only the 1.6 92bhp Hdi is available in the Exclusive but the 110 version is available in VTR trim.

Cheers Pork Pie, thanks for the help, the car is fantastic (been driving my g/f Escort for 2 months and this seems very nippy after 2000 rpm ! .

One last question if anyone knows ... does the car have a trip computer eg instantaneous mpg , miles available on current diesel etc and if so how do I activate or switch between ? my stalk seems to have radio and volume controls only but im probably just being a numpty !

The end of the steering stalk on the right hand side very end should be a button on there then look just where the speedo is should change the display to what you want eg, average consumption average speed etc.

Nope, nothing, the stalk end has two buttons, one says SRC which seems to change the radio station up and down and one controls the volume up, down or mute. Cant see the "O" that is shown on one of the stalks on another post here, could it be that the trip computer isnt standard ?

Well, sort of getting to the bottom of this, just called Citroen and they say that it is possible that the wiper stalk has been replaced by another stalk that doesnt activate the trip computer (ie just activates the radio controls, from a lesser spec model (?). If i take it it then they will take a look at it.

In the meantime i might try to cut out the middle man, does anyone have a good source of new (or used) citroen parts (other than obviously Citroen) that i might be able to find the stalk supplied from ?

Damionh - Your car is the same spec as mine which is also an 03 reg. Unfortunately there is no trip computer or auto locking doors when the car reaches >10mph

Ahh trust citroen to change the specs on the C3 yet again. The multi function computer is even on the base model now. Was on the 1.1 desire i was driving the other week anyways.

But you could always try german swedish and french car parts.

hmmm, ah well, no trip computer then will have to use the old fashioned method ...

what does anyone think of the possibility that it can be upgraded ? ie all the parts are there, possibly just needs activating or the correct stalk plugging in.

Im almost convinced that when i went to view the car first time round the guy cycled through the details, they wouldnt have swapped stalks ..... would they ?? <_<

Might try the previous owner who had it from scratch ... just to see...
