Guest exboy65a Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Hi I'm new to the site but not to xantias, having some 150000 miles in two cars. I have 2001 hdi 110, 126 000 miles. The footbrake is slow to release and with window open you can hear a whistle from the pads for maybe5 or 10 seconds. I have checked the obvious like sticking calipers, build up of rust on disc edge. It seems to be hydraulic and from the front. Also at about the same time I sometimes get a rubbing noise from the nearside rear. I have stripped the pads from this corner expecting the traditional down to the metal but not so. Also the disc runs very close to the caliper, I can't get any endfloat but I,m suspicous , maybe the 2 are connected. So any ideas or I'll have to turn the radio up!!!!!!!!!! Thanks in advance Quote

Thanks in advance It sounds like the pistons not retracting quickly enough, the pistons are very difficult to wind back in when pads/ discs are replaced. On mine, it is predominantly the drivers side, and yes I too can hear the whistle. Calipers though the Europarts chain are a reasonable replacement pricewise if you are planning to keep the car long term. Quote

I think i'll have to jack it up on 4 axle stands run the engine brake and check for sticking again. Quote
