A few days ago the keyfob on my 2001 xsara hdi stopped unlocking or locking the fromt and rear doors. The small button that opensthe boot still works. The little button wont unlock the boot.

I can lock and unlock the front doors with the key but the rear doors wont open even if I unlock them from the inside. The door actuaters dont sound like they are working when using inside door locker button.

It cant be the fob battery because it activates the boot unlocking mechanism.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Mark, I have experienced the same problem with my S reg Xsara a couple of years ago and I ended up having to remove the interior door cards and all the handles and winders and because the lock and its solenoids are only excisable with the door open I had to smash the lock mechanism with a large screwdriver so the doors could be opened and then replace the locks. The off side one went first and then a few weeks later the nearside one did the same. It may sound a little severe setting about the locks with a blunt instrument but done carefully no damage was done to anything other than the locks, getting the replacement locks before you start is a good idea. I had exhausted all the other possible faults as far as I could but without being able to open the doors the wiring connection plug and socket can’t be reached. With the door cards off the wiring to the lock can just be reached so with a wiring diagram and a understanding of the way the door locks work using a live feed it is worth trying to bypass the rest of the locking system just to make sure the problem is not in the wiring or the plip system.

Phil.
