Xsara, Missing Jack?

I have just bought a secondhand Xsara HDi estate 2001, but I cant find the jack.
its not in the rear boot cupboards.
any idea where else it might be?
Would a 1998 Xsara jack be suitable?

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Hi My 2001 Xsara Estate has the wheel brace in the right hand boot cupboard and the Jack is mounted within the spare wheel under neath the car.
