Guest g0ukb Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Like many others my clutch has just gone at 45k miles :-( A local garage replaced the clutch (£550 ouch!). It drove home OK and out again that evening. next day on the return leg (ie the 5th start after the clutch change) there was a whining noise on starting. We were only a couple of miles from the garage that had done the service so attempted to limp there. After 1/2 mile the car died. The fault is diagnosed as the starter motor failing to disengage and so continuously drawing huge current from the battery - needing both a new starter and battery (and a £300+ bill). The garage are naturally denying any cause and effect and I'm not too mechanically savvy so any thoughts as to whether this was just bad luck or what exactly the garage might have done to cause this? Someone has suggested damage to the wiring loom??? Any thoughts on how i pursue this with the garage - they've now fixed it and are waiting for me to pay and collect - £900 for a new clutch :-( Brian Quote
