I found this web site earlier today and found this area directly for ZX's. I can't seem to find anywhere else that has a section for ZX's so I thought I'd share with you all my project/restoration of my ZX. Its been lifted off the axoc web site where I originally wrote the project so the project has been going on for a good few months. Anywhere here you go:

Gf's dad has had this sitting up at his yard for the last 2 years hiding behind a load of boxes and other cars. I found it the other week when on a mooch about and he told me he was going to scrap it because it needed too much work done on it. After looking over the car and looking at the MOT faliure I didnt think it was too bad, just a lot of normal servicing jobs that takes a bit of time to do. So I gave him some money and I'm now the owner of it :(

I was weighing up how much it would cost to put right and luckily i've landed a job at camberley auto factors in the sales department so i get a discount on parts!

This is how it looked when i started work on it this morning. Think i should of turned the brightness down a tad:

Its got the simple 1.4 spi engine with PAS which surprised me. I fitted a new battery and spark plugs and it started first time!

I cracked on with changing the pads and discs first off. Nice and shiny:

I then thought it could do with a quick wash and it came up pretty well. Its got a few dents and dings but overall its clean enough!

Next things to do are exhaust, rear brake hose, handbrake cables, rad flush, fit new clip to the clutch pedal and a few other little things. Then I'll start looking at tarting it up with a volcane front bumper, nicer interior etc

Had a half day today so I cracked on with the car a little bit. Some numpty had fitted the wrong rear wheel bearing and had butchered all the parts in the process so I had to fit a new one. Also adjusted the handbrake cables, fitted the new middle box and replaced the lower arm rear bushes. What a nasty of a job that was! Forgot to take pics but they wouldnt exactly be exciting! Take my advice and buy the whole lower arms with the ball joints and bushes already fitted as you'll be there all day trust me!

Once that was done I thought I'd start fitting my sound system as its sitting around collecting dust.

Then I thought to myself "I wonder if my old focus boot build would fit......"

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b34/matt316_uk/Citroen%20ZX/IMG00030.jpg

Its only placed in there and theres 1 amp and sub missing. Needs trimming and stuff before I bolt it all together. Good thing is the carpet I used matches the interior of the car

Then I took out the old stereo as its a pile of rubbish and realised I need a adaptor fascia so I've managed to get one off ebay for a tenner luckily. It's based on the original head unit so it has the flip down fascia that covers the radio. Just gotta wait for it to come...

Then was looking round my garage and found a nice mk2 gt steering wheel and it went straight on

Old one

I was about to pull the wheel off and suddenly remembered to leave the nut on slightly to prevent a broken nose :(

New one

This car has to be the most comfortable citroen I hav even driven! Am really starting to like it. It looks a bit doggish from the outside but hopefully I can do a few bits to cure that!

Bit more progress today. Another half day so I did the cam belt, replaced the rear hub nut & grease cap, put the interior back together, fitted the head unit surround, fitted some new hub caps and started to give it a polish but then it got too cold and i gave up....

Had a bit of a result with the hub caps and a new head unit. Bought them down the car boot for a total of £25!

Some asw pics

The bit i polished :( Whole car needs a good t-cutting to get rid of all the scratches.

Small update. been trying to find time/money to do a few more things to the car.

Won these half leather seats on ebay for £16!

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b34/matt316_uk/Citroen%20ZX/LeatherSeats.jpg

Fitted the front seats, just gotta get some brackets to fit the rears

Managed to get some 14" wheels with descent tyres for free. I wanted to get some OE spec hub caps as I really like the zx ones but couldnt find any so I went for ones that look similar.

The speedo kept getting stuck so I fitted some volcane clocks hoping that the rev counter wiring might already be there...... it wasnt #-o so next job is to link up the rev counter

Old cluster

New clocks

Clocks have now been changed to correct mileage

Nex step is to find volcane front bumper an 5 dr door cards that look similar to the seats

Made a trip down to sunny pompey today to see ben jammin' off the ax owners club. Picked a few bits up such as a spoiler and volcane bumpers and a few interior bits. All of it needs sanding and re-painting before putting it all on.

More to come when I have time to do the bumpers

Been sanding and spraying the front bumper and spoiler this past week.... god i hate sanding. The front bumper isnt easy to do as it has so many curves to it.

I got the spoiler sanded smooth, painted and fitted now so should give me at least another 30 mph top end lol :(

Then went about thinking where to mount my ipod. I had to dangle the cable out of the glove box and it looked really untidy. Was thinking about the sun visor but would get annoying up there so I settled for the centre console.

Drilled the hole in the console

Been spending a lot of time prepping the front bumper. Once that was done I sprayed it with filler primer, sanded it again, normal primer, sprayed them in matt black and then laquered. I did try a halfords "citroen black" spray but it looked hideous!!

Before:

Done.... Would of taken more pictures but it started raining:

Just got to fit the new fog lights and the number plate

Started work on fitting the spoiler porperly. I used rivets exactly like it was originally held on:

Since I've done all this work I've done a few more things to the car. If anyone reads this project and needs to know anything or would like to see more I'll post the rest up.

Thanks for reading so far!
