thomasmosby Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 HiI´m new to this forum, but still hope for some help :) The susp. pump on my C5 wont stop running. It raises the car to the wanted postion. But then, it kind of, goes down to half power and keeps running. Even when the car is lowered it still runs. Have any of you tried that before, and if so, how did you fix it ?? Thomas Quote
C5buff Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Hi This is a problem some of us have had before. There are a few incidences of posts on this forum about it. My experience is currently on page 12 of the forum under c5 technical, pump runs continously. If the pump runs for long it is liable to burn out the electric motor and maybe the local wiring as well. So you need to sort it. Click Here to posts - added by Moderator Quote
thomasmosby Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 HiAnd thanks for the answer. I have read the post about your problem and it is slightly different from mine. As i understand it, your pump is only running when you have the ignition on ? Mine starts when i reconnect the battery and doesnt stop before i either disconnect or the fuse blows, wich takes about 5 minutes... My next step will be to disconnect the command line to the pump, and if it still runs continuosly, i believe that the pump itself is broken/has a bad connection inside ??What do you think ? do you have any other ideas ?I have checked the groundings, the "command button" in the car and the connections on the pump and in the fusebox. C5buff Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 HiIf you disconnect the run command line from the pump it should stop. If it dosn't then the transistor switch inside the pump could be breaking down and allowing the pump to run albeit slowly. If this is the case then its a new transistor you will need. This can be obtained from a secondhand pump or if you can still read the details off of the transistor itself then buy just that from sources on the web that sell electronic components. Mine was too badly burnt to read the details so I bought a pump from a chap on ebay as per my post. If it does stop when you remove the run command then the fault is, I am afraid, the ecu mounted on top of the pump. This is the worse case which will require a new pump or a solution like I came up with (see my post). This fix won't be everyones cup of tea. For me it was driven by the need to avoid the high cost of a new pump, the fix cost me 30 quid plus a few hours work. Not forgetting the cost of new oil as a draindown will be required as well. Quote
thomasmosby Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 Hi Ok, i will now disconnect the command line, cross my fingers and hope that the pump still runs.. Thanks again for your answers, they have been very helpful.. Thomas Quote
thomasmosby Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 Hi I now have to surrender and buy a new(2.hand) pump, as i cant read the number on the transistor at all, since it have been very very hot.. i have my eyes on one that comes from a 2002 model. Mine is a 2004 (but still 1.series) Will this pump fit/work in my car, do you think ??They both have the same number : 963671388000... Thomas Quote
C5buff Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Hello ThomasYes it should be ok. If the ECU is ok on your current pump then you could consider swapping over the transistor switch assembly altogether from the secondhand unit. The whole assembly with commutator brushes transistor etc just pulls off the motor and can then be refitted to your pump. The thing about fitting the second hand pump is whether its ECU will work without needing to be initialised for you cars system. I am not sure about this as someone else did a swap with a secondhand pump and it apparently worked without initalisation. Someone on the forum may know the answer to that one.Anyway I assume when you pulled the run command wire out the pump still ran. Suggesting a short circuit transistor. Quote
thomasmosby Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 Hi Yes, you´re right. it just kept on running, no matter what i did. When i got the pump out, i could actually smell my way, to what was wrong ;) The transistor has been so hot, that it is impossible to read anything on it and the transistor housing has cracked in 2. I will consider moving the ecu, as i would like to avoid, having to go to the dealer for initialising. Or maybe i will just take a chance and hope for the best. i will let you know how it works out..
