rikebo Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 i have just bought an ex demo c4 1.6hdi vtr+ in 5 door form finished in silver and is 13 months old. previous cars being ford vauxhall etc. i just couln,t resist all that equipment and v.f.m but as i do 30k+ i just wonder if reliability will be an issue a few people seem a bit negative about citroens. does anyone know what the recalls were for? ham's c4vts Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 welcome to the forumif you look through past posts then you should be able to find the info.some of the other members may tell you as theyve had their c4's a bit longer tham me. is yours 90 bhp or 110bhp? i recently drove a 90bhp sx with only 700 odd miles on the clock and thought that had quite a bit of low down grunt! hertsnminds Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Welcome rikebo I have had my 5dr VTR+ 1.6HDi (110bhp) since new in December. If you are doing lots of motorway miles and keep between 65mph and 70mph on the cruise control you should get between 50 and 55 mpg which means over 600 miles per tank of fuel. Around town mpg can drop to the low 40's. You can get enticed by the toys and rely on them too much. Remember you can override the auto lights and wipers as they can become confused. I found bright sunlight (when the sun is low in the sky) can set off the wipers B) I find the car is great to drive and at it's best on long motorway drives. Very smooth and quiet. The only difference you may find between yours and the newer models is that it is not Euro IV compliant. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
rikebo Posted April 26, 2006 Author Posted April 26, 2006 i now have my new c4 1.6 hdi 110 bhptoday drove from northampton to walsall ,around the town back home, speeds up to 65 mph, computer says 61.8mpg!!!im still speechless :) how accurate is the computer i wonder my old punto only ever recorded 56 at very best and thats a 1.3 tdilove the car its such a good cruiserdoes anyone know if a cd changer can be diy fitted in the armrest i know they can be bought for around £150  Quote
citroeneddie Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Rik My C5 with the same engine returns about the same, although I do cruise at about 65mph on the motorway and try not to speed. Think what mpg the 92hp would do! Quote
ham's c4vts Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 i would imagine that the 92bhp will be no better fuel consumption, as the engine would be working harder for the same car, as engine size is unchanged. :) (better power to weight ratio) Quote
citroeneddie Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Do you think it is worth paying an extra £1,000 for 18bhp? Quote
wozza Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Not just the BHP though its the character of the engines the torque it would be a rather different drive to be honest. BHP is only noticeable at the topend. Not where a diesels power band is generally. but it would gain massive amounts of torque which is what moves you from the line to begin with more torque better acceleration and mid range power. Resulting in a far different car. You can easily notice a 10lb ft difference. Not sure but does the 92bhp one not have an intercooler but the 110 does. If thats the case add the intercooler and change the map on the ECU and you would probably have something better performing than the 110bhp motor. like the difference between a 1.4 and a 1.6 engine really. I find the 1.6 pretty slow in the C4 but i drove a 1.4 and i thought it felt absolutely gutless. And CD changer in armwrest should be too difficult to just a case of running the cable that might be the hard bit. Although the C4 is fairly easy to run cables through to be honest. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 18 bhp difference and 18 f/lb torque difference, 119mph to 112mph 11.2 sec to 60, 12.5 sec to 60 thats the main difference between 110 bhp and 92 bhp performance wise for roughtly £1000 Quote
wozza Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Or you could get the 1.6 petrol for less and shave a bit more off those times and add some more on the topspeed. You just need to work the engine more though and dont get the great fuel economy but on the bright side. Road tax is cheaper the cars cheaper to buy and petrol is cheaper per litre. Doesnt it take like 75,000 miles or something before you brake even with what you would have spent on a petrol. Why i cant see the point in diesels much now because there becoming more expensive than petrols to run. Quote
rikebo Posted April 26, 2006 Author Posted April 26, 2006 my calculations tell me that on 30k milesyoure only about £500 -£600 better off with a diesel c4per year not inc road tax or company car tax differences. surprising when you work it out. that means on 10k it will break even. Quote
wozza Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 How many miles a year is that doing cause judging from mine the difference is around 14 pence per mile for the petrol and around 12p a mile for the diesel takes a fair bit longer when you work out the £1000+ difference plus the 7p extra a litre for fuel plus the £10-£20 extra it is for road tax. And insurance is actually up on the diesels generally cause there more to repair. Quote
wozza Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Im pretty sure servicing is more expensive yeah. It seems great when you first get the higher MPG but over time you dont save that much money. But least you dont have to rev the nuts of a diesel to get it to move like i have to with the petrol. it only gets its power after 5000rpm which is fine for me i dont mind but some people might not like having to make there engine scream at times. Quote
rikebo Posted April 27, 2006 Author Posted April 27, 2006 i was assuming diesel giving 20mpg more than pertrol. that the diesel car retains its value the same as the petrol petrol@94p a litrediesel@98p youre better off with an L.P.G conversion thats a thought!! Quote
wozza Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 LPG is worth it but as more people start switching the government are just gonna end up taxing that to buggery as well. Quote
hertsnminds Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Might as well wait for the C4 Diesel/Eletric Hybrid giving 69MPG, that way you still get a 1.6 HDi engine and just run off the battery in town. With CO2 emissions of 90 g/km which means VED band A, zero car tax :D http://www.greencarcongress.com/2006/01/ps...eugeot_cit.htmlhttp://www.businessweek.com/autos/content/...age_new+hybrids IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
barns Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Its all a big money spinner,as soon as decent diesels with performance to match come about ,would you believe it costs more than petrol, taxes will just follow the latest craze to make them in line with every other option.do you have to service a diesel every 10k or some thing? mates had a diesel for 2 years and he loves it but has only done 5k a year in it,completely pointless!
