seefive Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Hi Having ongoing problems with hesitation when starting off from cold.Car is a 2008 mk 2, 2 litre petrol exclusive hatch with AL4 gearbox Box was slipping last year and eventually instructed main dealer to drain and refill the box (no fault codes were showing, which apparently means nothing's wrong, even if you do get stranded with no drive on the way to work! Enough dealer bashing for now) Anyway, that fixed the slipping problem, but there is an ongoing issue where the box seems to be holding the car back, until the oil has warmed up, then it runs perfectly. Happens in reverse and drive, seems to be dying on me as I try to pull out - a bit disconcerting. Any ideas? I can just about live with this, driving carefully when cold, but it's not right. Could it be short, or over-filled with oil? No signs of leaking. I'm confident it's the right stuff, surely a main dealer woudn't put the wrong oil in? Thanks for any comments/suggestions. I am not a DIY-er, so any recommendations for specialists in Bucks/Herts/Berks/Beds area would be useful. Maybe a gearbox specialist? Quote
sifaan Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 did you manage to find a solution to the problem?I am experiencing something similar, but I'm thinking it's more to do with the engine warming up than the tranny warming up. (hard to be really sure since I don't know how to make one hot without making the other hot too. unless leaving the engine on idle with box in P for 15 minutes or so, but even then I think the tranny oil would heat up). i've replaced the fuel filter and that seems to have helped but not fixed the problem; next step is to get the injectors out and cleaned by ultrasonic; I did do a clean with 3M cleaner about 9 months ago but apparently the ultrasonic is miles better.also i've been advised to check on the EGR/vacuum Quote

I'm now having the problem when it's warm too, so starting to suspect the throttle ( car has cruise control, so uses a position sensor and eletronics ). Will drop it into the main dealer if/when it gets worse, but not a big problem at the moment. Quote
