bremner Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Hi I've had my C4 since December last year and have been looking for a active forum for the C4 since then, glad I've finally found one. I have a couple of questions which I cant find the answer to on the board... 1) Will any standard size head unit fit in the C4 without any modification? 2) While reversing at slow speeds when I brake the rear brakes make a loud noise, kind of sounds like a trumpet, does my head in. Has anybody else had this problem? I've not yet contacted Citroen about it but its driving my mad and is slightly embarrasing :D 3) Has anybody attemped a PC install in thier C4 (e.g - http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread...?threadid=75290 ) Quote
wozza Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Welcome to the forum mate. 1) Any headunit will fit its pretty much a standard 1din slot. picture below of mine to show ya. Theres a small gap between the climate but only cause the climate comes out slightly further due to he curvature of it but the headunit is pretty much flush fit so nothing can be done maybe a small piece of black plastic cut to hide it but you cant see it when the face is on the unit so not an issue. You will need a BMW iso converter and then case of swapping a few wires around. Dont think theres an adaptor out for it yet so case of using multimetre and sorting it. http://mybigspoon.com/wozza/dash.JPG 2) The rear brakes have recently just had a bulletin for from citroen look slike it requiresnew disks, calipers etc. So get it in to the dealers for that. 3) Not attempted a PC install in mine i might do in the future when i have some more cash until then im happy with what i have and im not sure if anyone else has yet. the good thing about the C4 is theres loads of spcae everywhere and its an absolute doddle to work on and run cables in etc. Quote
bremner Posted April 27, 2006 Author Posted April 27, 2006 Just found this on eBay a bit pricey tho, especially when you can build your own better and cheaper only difference is the size... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/In-car-In-dash-Pc-Pr...1QQcmdZViewItem Would go well with one of these... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/S-1021-8-TFT-LCD-TOU...1QQcmdZViewItem Quote
syrup Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Welcome bremner. Blimey wozza you like a warm car! Quote
wozza Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 I do when I just get in it was bloody freezing! First thing i do stick the CC on HI and sit and bake for a few minutes then it gets too warm and i end up needing to open the window lol. Although since the temps have been nice lately i got in it yesterday set it to low and turned the A/C on was like heaven lol. Quote
wozza Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Have to get it nice and toasty lol. Plus that leather steering wheel is sodding freezing in the morning numerous times on my way to uni in the morning I was sat with my sleeves pulled over my hands due to my fingers just about freezing off touching the wheel lol. I think the C4 needs a heated steering wheel! Quote
Welshguy Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 You will need a BMW iso converter and then case of swapping a few wires around. Dont think theres an adaptor out for it yet so case of using multimetre and sorting it. Ahhh now this is where I can help - when I was looking to install my headunit I realised I needed to find an adaptor...after many hours phoning companies I finally came across Michael @ dvbaudio - he agreed to make an adaptor for me - I had it in my hands two weeks later and it has worked a treat. No cutting etc required! It is also an excellent price :D See DVB Audio for contact details. Remember to ask for Michael and say Darren with the Citroen C4 sent you! I have been bugging him about an adaptor for the steering controls as well - this is currently being produced by an associate of his, although it is likely to be pricey (roughly £100). Quote
wozza Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 2 weeks. it took less than 2 hours to sort mine out that was with no one having a clue what to do lol. just a bmw adaptor couple snips of the wires and then taping them back up to match the correct ones. Think hamsc4vts did it himself as well said it took him around 30 minutes if i remember correctly. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 welcome to the forum, yeah ive installed an alpine head unit, with ipod adapter, if i remember i only had to change the pos and neg around? Quote
Welshguy Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 lol boasting eh! So what setup have you got in the car? I have an Alpine HU (cant remember the model name...)with a small amp (Sony) and 12inch Subwoofer (Kenwood) in a box.I also have a Alpine 6disk MP3 changer attached in the boot as well. My brother is an ICE junkie and a formal Ripspeed technical support guy so he knows his stuff - I goto him for help. He also assisted me with obtaining all the above ICE in the first place...lets just say I gota very good deal! :D Quote
wozza Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 sony and kenwood not what i would rate high in audio equipment. Im currently running Alpine 9855R headunitAlpine MRV t420 2 channel amp which is powering my front components which are 6" InphaseXT's putting around 100w RMS each side through them. And then i have an RE SE 12 subwoofer powered by a lanzar opti series amp which is feeding around 600w RMS or so into the sub. No rear speakers. My front components will be shifted into the rear though at some point when i upgrade to my new ones when i have some spare cash. Quote
Welshguy Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 lol yeah I do know that, but for the price I paid I cant really argue :) Your setup sounds cool m8 - one thing I've definately noticed is that the inside of a C4 definately responded well to bass tones! :D EDIT: Any pix to show? Quote
wozza Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Headunit you can see further up. http://mybigspoon.com/wozza/install1.JPG http://mybigspoon.com/wozza/install2.JPG And theres the sub and amps. And can see how it was all wired in with the little guide thing i did in the ice section. All getting ripped out possibly tomorrow though so i can start constuction of my false floor and new sub box which is gonna be over double the size of that one. For SQ though rather than all out thumping bass. Quote
Welshguy Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Cool - cheers for the pix. You have almost the same set up as I do, apart from the Amp on the left is where my six disk changer is. This thread reminds me...have you had any problems with the boot floor? I found the fabric/carpet came away very easily from the mdf...ended up spray gluing it down! Not the greatest fit though. Should I add that to the list on the other thread? :D Quote
wozza Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Im after upgrading it all i have plans goign through my mind but requires some more extensive modifications to the interior of the car and im really not wanting t do that yet lol. But the car PC thing has started giving me ideas and i want to put one in now even worse knowing i have most of the computer parts sat in the other room that i could use. And my carpet is fine in the C4 will be getting left in there as well when the false floor goes in which i need to start thinking about designing as i still want the wheel to be accessible etc. Quote
Welshguy Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 In car PC - like this you mean? http://people.freenet.de/megaturtel/vts/CarPC@C4_1.jpg Very very nice - just come across it... Quote
Welshguy Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 lol yeah definately. The guy who owns this has a mint C4. The only thing I'd say that goes against it is that he choose to have the brown leather interior when he has the Black VTS :P Definately has given me ideas though! Quote
Stuey Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 I do like the leather dash, thats pretty smart steering wheels on the wrong side too...silly foriegner :P Quote
wozza Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 I want it :P The real bugger is it woudlnt be too hard for me to put it together i dont think. I already have most of the bits i would likely need. I just cant go cutting my dash to bits not yet anyways lol. Need to get off my arse and finish my boot properly before anything need to mount amps in a false floor with some fans and make a new bigger sub box and then have that fixed into the boot. Quote
Welshguy Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 lol thats the main catch isn't it - the price of replacements parts if the cutting etc goes wrong! :o Quote
wozza Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Yup, Plus i dunno how much they would charger for that centre piece of plastic. Would need to see how much the aluminium finish kit is and do a bit of modding to it. Quote
