Graeme NZ Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I have recently purchased my first Citroen, a C5 2.2L Hdi auto. It is nearly due for a cambelt, but can anyone advise the odds of it needing a new waterpump at 85,000. I need to prepare in advance because I'm in NZ but will be sourcing the parts from UK. Quote

Hi, I think you have answered your own question above. The fact you will have to get it in advance, and it will be easily accessible with the cambelt off. Personally, I did the water pump on mine at the same time as the belt, total peace of mind. Hope that helps. Quote

PICASSOCONVERT Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Thank you. I just needed a second opinion. In the good old days water pumps lasted the life of the engine! Third opinion here - I had my water pump done at the same time as the cam belt on the first 2.2HDi I had - the pump (Citroen part) was about GBP£40 at the time - 2008ish. The advice was that there was no extra labour involved in changing the pump. The bill for the 100,000 mile service, cam belt and water pump was GBP£599. I'm just debating when to have this job done on my current 2.2HDi which has done 75,000 miles and is 7.5 years old. The received wisdom seems to be to do it sooner than later. David Quote

Graeme NZ Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 Thank you David. This whole issue seems to me to be a local Citroen dealers' income enhancement scheme. The recommended change frequency in NZ is every 6 years or 60,000 KILOMETRES, yet driving conditions here in NZ are far more 'clement' than those in the UK. We have less polluted air, less heavy traffic conditions and far more temperate temperatures. Nevertheless, all necessary parts are now on the way to me in NZ from Car Parts Direct in the UK, from whom I have received outstanding assistance and service. They will be fitted this year. Quote
