lab44 Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Hi everyone Been reading this forum for the past few weeks but this is my first post :D Does anyone know if there is any fix for the windscreen wiper problem whereby the wipers miss the edges of the windscreen. I think somebody posted about this a week or two back but I only just noticed the problem when I was driving in the rain yesterday. Seems really dangerous to me because it leaves you with a massive blind spot either side of the windscreen in the rain ;) Marc Black VTR Coupe 1.6 Quote
Mat Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Welcome lab44.I dont remember this exact topic, i know wipers flying off has been discussed, and sticking wipers sorted with vinegar (!).But i noticed the blind spot, whilst driving to work the other day in the (heavy) rain. However, since then i drove my GF's VW Beetle, which has much bigger blind spot, even when not raining, so i wonder how many cars have large panels too.I cant see it being easy to 'fix' though. Quote
Welshguy Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Hi and Welcome ;) What model of C4 do you have? To answer your question - Do you mean the front or rear windscreen?I have a feeling you are talking about the small rear wiper, which doesas you say leave a large area unclean. There is no solution to this becauseof the letterbox shape of the window - the best thing is do is to keep thewindow clean and use a good window cleaner polish - this will help rain to run off the window and keep it from getting dirty as often as usual. Stuey Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Welcome!! I think he means the front wipers as they push water into the edges. Autoglym glass polish is very good as it makes the water bead up and roll up and over the roof. Its not perfect but it clears enough so you can see... Quote
lab44 Posted May 9, 2006 Author Posted May 9, 2006 Yes I am talking about the front windscreen wipers. I know about the rear one - useless lol - though the sloping nature of the windscreen means the rain flows off it. Its the gap the front ones leave either side of the front windscreen that is the annoyance. Saying that the windscreen wipers are a lot better than on my old 306 which were rubbish ;) . My car is a VTR coupe 1.6 petrol (though I imagine the windscreen wiper design is pretty much the same on all models). Marc Quote
ham's c4vts Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 try a product called Rain-x which you should be able to buy from a1 motor stores, halfords etc. this stuf beads up the water an it runs off when its windy or your moving anything over 30mph approx oh and welcome Quote
syrup Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 The wiper arms can be moved on their splines (it's just a nut holding them on)but remember they will park higher up, equivalent to the amount you move them. Quote
wozza Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 got some of that rainX on mine now bad rain 70 mph and i barely had to use the wipers really good stuff wasnt expecting it to be that good. Quote
barnyg Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Been using Rain-X for some time. You are not supposed to us in on your windscreen if you have auto sensing wipers. Its great in winter for snow though, it just falls of the windows. Quote
wozza Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Not really that hard to not set the wipers to auto i dont put them on half the time anyways. Quote
wozza Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 It is mate thanks for recommending it. stuck it on all the windows now lol. Quote
Stuey Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 try a product called Rain-x which you should be able to buy from a1 motor stores, halfords etc. this stuf beads up the water an it runs off when its windy or your moving anything over 30mph approx oh and welcome you on commision for Rain-X?? you have an unhealthy love for that stuff ;) and yes I do need to get some Quote
lab44 Posted May 10, 2006 Author Posted May 10, 2006 Thanks very much for everyones help. Cars got its first service on Friday so might ask then but I suspect its the design of the car so might have a go with some of that rain x stuff :P Marc Quote
wozza Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Its good stuff i was very impressed. 70mph on the motorway and you dont need your wipers it just beads and moves up the windscreen. really good stuff and it seems to last. I have since washed my car twice and the stuff has not come off lol. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 ive used the stuff for years and use it on all windows and my crash helmet visor, one youve done all of the winfows youll find its only the front and rear the need redoing after a while. ive also found that bugs come off easyer on a rain-x coated windscreen and its easyer to de ice in winter.and no stuey i dont get commission :P Quote
moggy Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 gotta get me some of that.anyone know a good way of cleaning bug blood of the front of the bonnet and wing mirrors. that stuff just wont budge. stupid lovely silver. Quote
wozza Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 meguirs quick clay will get the bugs off easily and restore your paintwork so much better than anything else. Ots basically a spray on thing and you then use a lump of what is pretty much white tac to get the crap off the spray lubricates the car and the white tac stuff pulls it off. And if you cant feel the different and see it they offer a money back guarantee trust me though done right the paint will feel like glass totally and perfectly smooth removes all the tar dead bugs etc. Bout £12 for the kit though best way to get all the crap off though followed by a decent polish and wax. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 doesnt a decent wax/polish get rid of that too? i would of thought that the claybar would be ok on slightly older cars(2 years on wards or cars) that havet been polished for ages or never? Quote
wozza Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 very hard to get rid of tar etc with just a polish etc. Quote
lab44 Posted May 11, 2006 Author Posted May 11, 2006 Forget doing it yourself - get someone else to do it. I've tried these people with very good results :P http://www.zdouk.com/newsarticle.aspx?articleID=51 Quote
Stuey Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I saw that guy on some random car show the other weeks washing a maserati MC12, he is a bit thorough!! distilled water for the love of all things unholy!! Quote
lab44 Posted May 11, 2006 Author Posted May 11, 2006 I think at that price it is probably better to just buy another C4 instead of bothering to clean it :P Quote
Stuey Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I think at that price it is probably better to just buy another C4 instead of bothering to clean it :P good point, well made. That guy can probably have your car cleaner than when it left the factory to be honest!! Quote
