Sounds like your Sensodrive system needs a software update. Many early C3 Sensodrive units had issues like yours and these were cured with software updates.

Ask your dealer which revision of software your car has then ask them what the latest revision is. If you have the latest software then ask them to replace the Sensodrive system in your car. A car selecting gears it wants to and not letting you change out of reverse is very very dangerous.

Not sure how old your car is or where you bought it from so some options would be.

If the car was bought new and the garage has had 3 attempts to fix an issue and failed you can claim the car is not repairable and start action to get it replaced.

If the car is still within it's 3 year Citroen warranty you can take it to ANY Citroen garage and ask them to have a look. Some garages have more experience of certain issues than others. (Some garages are more helpful than others).

You can keep taking it back to the same garage and drive a loan car of theirs that works until you are 100% sure yours is fixed.

*****BEWARE*****

I have this same trouble, and it cost me £2k to put right, i have a C2 Furio 1.4 with the paddle shift, the clutch started to slip and then it was not finding reverse, there are a few recalls on the C2 I was unaware of too (suspension cups and a software upgrade for the transmision)

The software upgrade did not cure it and i ended up having to buy a new gearbox & clutch actuator, clutch and flywheel set.........
