Rob555 Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Hi this is my first post just joined today. My car is a 1.6 diesel 5 door and I have owned it from new since March 05. I just got home about an hour ago and when I parked the car the windersceen was fine, I went to move the car 10mins ago and when i sat in the drivers seat i noticed a crack about 4 inches in length a quarter of the way up the screen on the drivers side ending at the corner post has anyone else had this happen to them? : Quote
Welshguy Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I had a 4 inch crack, but I differ in the fact that it was at the bottom of the windscreen and I have aCoupe. Citroen replaced the windscreen and then tried to tell me it must have been a stone...but they didn't charge me so they were hiding something. Im thinking the chasis flexed and cracked the glass personally. No problems since though...this was nearly a year ago. Quote
Mat Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I got a crack in the centre of the windscreen, above the air vent. It looks like it could be a stone chip, but the scepticle side of me says the crack above the air vent isnt just coincidence. Quote
wozza Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Call someone out to have a look at it from your insurance company or take it to citroen if its only a small crack it can be repaired other wise it'll end up needing a new window before long. Quote
Mat Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 My crack was about 6inches long when i first noticed it, in Jan. Its now about 12inches. I got it treated so it wont grow any more. I can't see Citroen coughing up, but judging by Welshguy's luck, it may be worth a try. Otherwise, shall wait until my insurance is up, and choose a company with slightly lower windscreen excess. toblerone Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I'm with Norwich Union, my glass excess is £60 for my C3.Recently my rear o/s passenger door glass shattered. Apparently it doesn't affect NCB, but they wouldn't guarantee my premium wouldn't rise at renewal because of it. They use RAC autowindscreens, who were as much use as a chocolate tea pot on the phone. They could not fit me in immediately as no glass in stock, my local citroen dealer did it the next day for £61.72 and I got a nice new C2 loan car aswell!!! Quote

My Glass excess is £40 (unlimited Claims) Talk about bloody tempting fate! I reversed onto my drive this evening and whilst maneuvering round the wife's car I had the screen go bang! Sounded a bit like an explosion, certainly no sign of a stone chip and its in the lower nearside corner and the crack ran in two directions then into one! Have a look for yourself - Click Here Quote
Welshguy Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Seems to back up my feeling that is has something to do with the chasis flexing? Quote

The wide bit at the centre, with crack flowing either side out of it.I'll post a photo when i get home tonight - useful bargaiing material for you when you go to Citroen. May i use your photo for when i go to Citroen, please? Quote
Joeblunt Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Who's that with ? Liverpool & Victoria (Frizzel) Quote

Rob555 Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 I took the car to my local Citroen dealer yesterday to get the rear brake mod carried out and asked them for their opinion of the crack in the screen .They had a good look and spotted a very small chip along the line of the crack which indicated that it was due to stone impact and not stress, so it is going to cost me £50.00 through my insurance for a new screen . The brakes were done under warranty . Quote
Joeblunt Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 I spoke to the technician who replaced my front shock absorbers, showed him the crack he immediately said it was due being to it put in wrong at the factory & he confirmed he had seen a few , all the cracks stem from the 'A' Pillar. I think the problem with mine is my C4's dont just over 19K and its 17 months old, Citroen will argue it would have gone before now? Quote
Rob555 Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 Joe why did they change your front shocks ? Quote
Joeblunt Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Joe why did they change your front shocks ? If I pulled away lively I sometimes got a knock on the front end, they were to change the F/O/S one only but when they ordered the part number of my original one the computer gave them a different part number, if its a modified part they then must fit in pairs only so I got em both changed. So at about 17 monts old / 19k miles its now had all four shock absorbers replaced - fink I bought the flipping pototype C4  Quote
Mat Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Here's a couple of photos of my crack, so to speak. Its not easy taking photos of a transparent refelctive surface!! http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g222/matcapel/C4windscreen004.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g222/matcapel/C4windscreen002.jpg Quote
