Taity Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Hi all, Just a noob here, thought I would sign up as I have had my C4 for just under a year now. Recall city or what? Booked in this Friday for the slow speed impact / Airbag re-call. It's currently in the bodyshop at present, be grateful in the knowledge that LWB Transit Vans actually come off worse if they go up the back of you! lol I was just wondering what kind of MPG the 1.6 HDi owners were getting? (92/110bhp) Mine is regularly above 55mpg, which is mostly B-road driving to and from work during the week, and motorway cruising at weekends. Nice to be here, John Quote
hertsnminds Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 My 5 door 1.6HDi 110 Gives:45-50mpg around town, 50-55mpg on the motorway and 55-60mpg on b-roads (about 60mph, 2,000 revs in 5th) From new the overall average was 50mpg which became 52mpg after about 6,000 miles. Now at 8,000 miles and the best average over about 100 miles has been 60mpg. I think the worst instant mpg reading has been about 17 when accelerating up a hill, this reaches 999 when coasting downhill or breaking so I don't take too much notice. Most miles from 1 tank of fuel has been 630. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
Welshguy Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Hi and weclome! Sorry to hear about the Transit incident! Daz Quote
Stuey Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 what is it with other cars fascination with the rear of C4's!!! as you know mine had its arse removed a few months ago but the womans car was totalled and mine needed a new bumper. I would say there are indestructable but I will probably roll it in the 25MPH zone on the way home tonight now  Quote

Partly down to me trying ever so hard to drive as gently as possible to Gloucester from west London (64 mpg), and partly down to the 6-speed version's 35 mph per 1000 rpm, or thereabouts. I even freewheeled (naughty) down Birdlip Hill. I agree that cruising at 70 mph seems to give a constant 50-55 mpg once the instantaneous readout settles down on a flat stretch using cruise control. Would I be right in thinking that the climate control doesn't have such a dire effect on economy as common-or-garden aircon - I'm certainly not aware of it slowing the car down at any time? This is my first diesel and I'm impressed. Quote

Probably 2 reasons for this; 1 modern air con does not run as long as the old types used to (they cut in and out by themselves now rather than being on or off) and 2 being a diesel the extra torque means you don't notice a loss in power as much as you would in a petrol. My partner drives a 1.25 Fiesta and even the air con in that doesn't seem to effect the power too much. , I got nearly 800 miles from a tank in my 2.0HDi last week. Well at least I know that 800 miles is possible, but only having 5 gears might make it harder to achieve. Took my car until after the 1,500 mile service before it would even consider travelling anywhere at 1,000 revs in 5th. So I am sure mpg will only get better as I pile on the miles. Rob555 Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Mine is a 1.6 92bhp and I drive around 40 miles every other day on the A2 which seems worse than the M25 (car share with my mate). I am getting an average of 60 miles to the gallon on the trip computer, I have checked this manually and its about right . Much better than my last car a Ford Focus. Quote
