barnyg Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I'm thinking of fitting a new head unit. Can anyone tell me if the steering wheel volume controls will still work on any unit or do they work only with specific units? If so anyone got any suggestions. Quote
wozza Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Think only a few blaupunkt units support the steering controls currently. Need an adaptor from them though the. Otherwise you just have to get rid until the interface has been created for more units. Quote
Welshguy Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 You can get the adaptor for Alpine Units - be prepared to pay about £100 though  Quote
wozza Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Since when? Been looking could not find one for my alpine unit that was only a few weeks ago. £100 isnt so bad i suppose if it integratefs fully into the cars system to display the information on the main panel again. But if it just does the volume up vlume down etc then not so worth it. Quote
Welshguy Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Sorry I should have worded that better - they are in development at DBV Audio I might send Michael an email later asking for an update on the development. Quote
wozza Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Was gonna say i spoke to someone at AlpineUK about them told me they were in development as well. Shouldn't be too much longer cars coming up for being on the market 2 years usually around the time adaptors etc start showing up. Just the multiplex wiring can be a bit of a bugger so many of the C2 owners found that out when putting aftermarket units in there car. Quote
Welshguy Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 hehe unless of course you bought the Ministry of Sound version cos you liked the "different" stereo! lol  Quote
wozza Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 If i had a bit more money i would have put a nakamichi unit in my car but will have to wait until i can afford a decent one. Although if i got a buyer for my Alpine i could pick up the nak unit i wanted for around £300 off ebay. looks almost factory fit but the soundquality is amazing on them. Quote
Welshguy Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 lol you sound like my brother - he's a ICE installer and he loves his nakamichi headunits! He does love quality over volume  Quote
ham's c4vts Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 have a look at this if its any help to anyone http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Citroen-ISO-Harness-...2QQcmdZViewItem Quote
wozza Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Quite a good find that. And im trying to get a job at the moment as an ICE installer lol. Would love a Nakamichi unit but I just cant bring myself to spend money on one. My sub is an amazing bit of kit already one of the best subs for daily listening money can buy. But my front speakers just arent good enough and i need to sound deaden the whole car first. I like the soundquality over the volume though but well the system is also extremely loud when i want it to be. Quote
3foot Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I hope you don't mind me butting in but I picked up this thread as the ebay link earlier is to one of my adverts. I see a few people have asked about linking replacement stereos with the steering wheel controls. This is entirely possible for all C2/C3/C5 & C5 models if you are using either a Kenwood or Sony deck. The kit I can offer also drives the remote display and costs £75.00. If you are interested please drop me a line at simon@3foot.co.uk. Quote
wozza Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 No Alpine unit interface? Know a couple of us are using Alpine decks. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Hi 3foot,im on ebay watching one of your leads for the c4, so at the moment this lead will only adapt any aftermarket stereo to work in the car (C4), but with no steering wheel controls or display. that would be extra?cheers Quote
Welshguy Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Thats correct - the adaptor being sold on ebay will only connect the stereo to the car - it will not allow you to use the steering controls nor will any information appear on the dash panels. Like Wozza said, I would be interested if an adaptor was made available for Alpine Units  Quote
barnyg Posted May 20, 2006 Author Posted May 20, 2006 I contacted www.nexxia.co.uk and got this reply:- Oops, forgot to add C4 to the site. Connectors are the same as for the C5, though, you can use PC2-86-4 & PC5-136, or the kit which is in stock CT20CT03.http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Car_Stereo_fitting.../Citroen/c5.htmNothing available for steering controls at the moment I’m afraid. Regards Simon Quote
wozza Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 I used a BMW iso converter and then had the wiring changed to match the C4. Quote
