lab44 Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Hi Got my insurance coming up in 7 days time and trying to find the best quote for my new C4. Unfortunately though my old insurance company (Endsleigh) were by far the cheapest on my 306 they want nearly £900 for the C4 (they obviously dont like my car lol) Have done a few quotes and found direct line and Norwich union the best so far (around £650). BTW I am 22, 1 years no claims and have been driving for 5 years. Also I saw Norwich Union do a 10 month bonus accelerator scheme for younger drivers i.e insure the car for just 10 months and get a years no claims - anyone else tried this. Would appreciate any suggestions from other C4 owners Thanks Marc Quote
Mat Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I'm with Swift. £240 fully comp for 15k miles, including the other half who has 3 points and 2 claims on her car last year. I do have 5 years NCB though. The only thing is the excesses are high. Quote
Fizzo17 Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 I found my cheapest quote by using confused.com Just entered all my details and they got loads of quotes. I have also heard that moneysupermarket.co.uk are good. I hope that helps. Quote
wozza Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Try greenlight, Adrian flux. And have you been to endsleigh into an office somewhere to speak to someone? Remember going with my mate into the stuent union one in manchester he took a quote that he had printed off the cheapest one he had with him. They couldnt beat the quote at first but then the manager saw the info and knocked him off £100 basically on the quote he was given. Play companies off against each other after all they usually will prefer your money rather than a rival company getting it. 10 month accelerators are best avoided there not transferable to all insurance companies. And what excess did you have for that £900? When i did mine last time just seeing how much it'd be was £1187 or something along those lines for a 1.6 VTR+, 15,000 miles a year parked in the street centre in the centre of manchester for business pleasure commuting. valued at £11K and im 22 with 1yrs NCB. £250 excess Mileage/ postcode and value of the car make big differences. Also try different professions you can be classed as sometimes makes a difference. And add other people preferably female that have held a license a while and are proessionals can knock a few hundred off then. I added my mum and it knocked £100+ off my quote even if they will never drive it just try it anyways. Some companies will add some on the premium some will subtract. Quote
Mike5483 Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Ive been with Zurich for the past 2 years and find them very good. Quote
barns Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 try insuresupermarket.com.I used these last time and saved over £200.lists loads of online insurance companies worth a try.Does all the big players along with some of the smaller ones and gives good discounts................... Quote
lee_marshuk Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Give Direct Line a go - they seem to be either really good or really expensive. Would love to know what factors they take into consideration! Quote
wozza Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Insurance is rather odd. You can get cheaper insurance on a Ferrari F430 in a fair few places than you can for a Clio172 Cup. Work that out!? Apparently its to do with how many are written off as well and the types of people that are likely to drive the cars hot hatches are seen as high risk young people's cars who are more likely to crash etc. Quote
Welshguy Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Marc - I am currently with Norwich Union, I'm 22 and have 1 yrs NCD so I'm identical to you in circumstances. I am on their Bonus accelerator scheme and its costing me just over £600. The only complaint I would have is that I wasn't really aware I was being sold the bonus scheme when I joined (indian call centre was hard to understand!) and so if I was to leave without a claim would that 9/10 months qualify as a year NCD with another company. I emailed Norwich Union to ask them this and they weren't sure - they issue NCD as a percentage figure, not in Year's. Overall though I'm happy! Quote
lab44 Posted May 21, 2006 Author Posted May 21, 2006 Thanks for your help everyone. Seems its going to be between Norwich Union, RAC and Direct Line (all around the £600-£650 mark) which I suppose isnt bad considering the value of the car and my age. Still its strange how a change in car can make such a big difference with my current insurer and yet with others seems to make little difference. Hope i'll never have to claim anyway :) Marc Quote
