wozza Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 The chrome on the front of my car is bubbling would that be covered under the warranty? Its the part on my bonnet where the chevrons are its just started noticed it earlier on not sure if something like that comes under warranty as a paint defect or not? Someone have a rough idea? Quote
Mike5483 Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Should do I reckon. The way i see it, its part of the body work and its corroding and under the corrosion warrenty itt should replaced. Quote
syrup Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 I agree with Mike, no way chrome should go this early. When I clean my car I always do my chrome with Autosol Chrome Cleaner for good protection. Quote
wozza Posted May 25, 2006 Author Posted May 25, 2006 Its only just starting but its not massively noticeable can only tell when I was giving my car a proper clean. Its booked in for a week tomrrow anyways to have a few things done to it. Took one of the guys out in it today and let him hear some of the noises it makes so he said he would book it in to get it checked over as it wasnt normal...WOO they heard it this time! Quote
incubus Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 I think you'll find that that there Chrome aint Chrome at all.. Its probably a Plastic lookie likey type finish that peels whe it gets a Stone chip or similar..I noticed it the other day on another Citroen..? It should come under Warranty though i'd of thought..?......... Oh and Hi...I'm Inccy. wozza Posted May 25, 2006 Author Posted May 25, 2006 Nice introduction mate lol. Was actually looking at the bubbling its not much just started really not sure if its worth asking them to sort it just yet or waiting to see if it does get any worse as theres only a few very small sections where its started to do it. Quote
Stuey Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 should be covered by the paint warrantee I reckon Quote
wozza Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 Will ask them to look at it when i take it in next friday see what they say. Quote
Stuey Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 you shouldnt have crappy panit and trim just yet, maybe in a couple of years... Quote
wozza Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 I know I shouldnt car gets washed every week 2 weeks at the most as well. Why I keep noticing little imperfections keeps annoying me lol. Quote
Stuey Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 talking about washing cars, I really need to get some Megs tech wax and a lambswool mit...no more swirls!! (eventually :P ) Quote
Welshguy Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Stuey - check out detailing world and get yourself some "Natty's Blue" wax - its designed for dark coloured cars and it ******* awesome! Smells of bubblegum too :P Quote
Stuey Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 bubblegum eh?? my car has flies walking over it already as it is parked near trees and has sap or something so it attracts them, flies I can live with but the village idiot licking my car is something completly different :P I had a look at one of the shops that detailing world reccomended and you can spend stupid ammounts on shampoo alone!! I will finish my bottle of turtle wax before I buy a different type. I was tempted to finish my Autoglym resin polish but after reading about the anti swirl Megs tech wax I will grab some of that, lambswool mit and some towel sheets Quote
Welshguy Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Well having looked on detailingworld for advice and tips, I settled on the following: (perfect for dark/black cars) Enrow Lambwool wash mitt - £7.992 Foam Applicator Pads - £2.50MicroFiber silk edged cloth - £4.00 Megs Gold Class Car Shampoo - £5.00Megs Quik Detailing System inc Clay - £13.00Megs #7 Show Car Glaze - £8.00Poorboys "Natty's Blue" Wax - £20.00 Total inc discount and postage from www.cleanandshiney.co.uk - roughly £53. Will have your car looking mint! The glaze is particularly good, and hides swirl marks, although im planning on gettinga PC polisher to get rid of the swirls permanently. Will also help me get rid of the scuff mark that chav left on my car from kicking it. :P Quote
Welshguy Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Btw - if you want any help/advice just ask - I'm not an expert but I can help in some areas :P Quote
ham's c4vts Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 surely the best way to use one of those pc polishers, is to have a paint thickness guage aswell or youll get carried away and have no paint left :P are your swirl marks bad?ive got no swirl marks as yet (5 months old) but i do use lots of water for rinsing and a lambs wool mit.ive only polished it once and that was with autogylm super resin the other friday when the weather was good(you know when we had summer lol) Quote
Stuey Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 yeah my swirl marks are getting quite noticable. Thats 9 months of innocently using a sponge :D I enjoy washing my car but PC polishers and paint gauges is taking it a bit to far IMO that is a good list of stuff I may well get that, leave the clay out for the moment I reckon, thats the one thing I am a bit dubious of scraping clay accross the body work....smells like trouble :P I think I am going to Max Power Live at the end of June and there is normally loads of stuff for much cheapness so I will raid the stands....anyone else fancy going to that show?? Quote
wozza Posted May 27, 2006 Author Posted May 27, 2006 The clay comes with a spray on detailer so add some lubrication so it wont scratch your car plus its just like a big blob of whitetack really. Only thing is if you drop a clay bar you have to get rid of it. And the polisher depends on the swirls most of our cars will have very minor ones so you wont need anything too abrassive on there. Quote
Stuey Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 how many times can you use the clay?? is it a 1 shot wonder or what?? youd better get polishing anyway Wozza FCS is only a few hours away *cracks whip* take many pics too... instead of FCS I will enjoy my drive to Bolton, the culture capital of shitsville!! Quote
Welshguy Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 You can use clay until it gets dirty all over - you just keep kneeding it to a clean side until no more clean sides! its very safe when used with the lube... :P It does make a hell of a difference too - look at some of the examples on detailing world - the paint appears to be clean but a quick clay brings up loads of "hidden" dirt - and your paint will feel like glass afterwards. As for PC polishers - they will permanently get rid of swirl marks - I'm in the same boat as Stuey...I was washing the car weekly with a sponge and so I have swirls and cobwebbing all over the car. A PC polisher will sort that right out, and if the right products are used then it is perfectly safe. Quote

wozza Posted May 27, 2006 Author Posted May 27, 2006 Oh come on any excuse to use powertools! Thats my reason for building my sub box lol. Quote
Stuey Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 im a photographer, the closest thing I use to a powertool is an electric screwdriver!! that detailing world site does have a place where you put down location and you can meet up with people who have polishers near you and you repay them with booze!! Quote
Welshguy Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Gave up my Saturday to wash and detail the car by hand using the products I mentioned earlier in this thread - here is the result: http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/streettech/6b254021.jpghttp://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/streettech/20ee0b3a.jpg BLING ! :o Not bad...some areas need touching up, particularly the rubber on the car, but I was impressed on how the Megs Glaze almost completely hid the stratches from the chav/shoe incident. Just badly need some rims now! :( Quote
