Just wondering what everyones average fuel consumptions are and how they compare to Citroens official figures.

I have a 1.6 petrol 110bhp which citroen says combined should be around 40 versus nearly 60 for the diesel. This is some way off from what I am getting (about 25 round town, 39 motorway and somewhere inbetween combined).

I have only done 1500 miles so maybe the engine is still loosening up but then again have heard many manufactuers over-inflate their mpg figures so maybe not

Your engine is well tight (ooer) even at 1500 miles. Piston rings not quite conditioned yet amongst compents not beaded in yet.

Says in the handbook that the unit should be well run in after that mileage.

In reality an engine is run in after 10k miles for a petrol unit and 20k for a modern diesel (the difference being that a diesel is a low speed unit and the combustion processes are achieved at a lower temperature than in petrol).

WHen I had my Saxo VTR 90 it was averaging 26mpg but after 10k miles I averaged 40 then it "petered" out to 42-44 (after fitting Continentaal tyres at the front). Citroen C3 1.4 hdi - at first 62mpg, eventually 66-72.

Xsara Estate Hdi 90 48 at first, 53-56 at the end. When I bought a Xsara SX Hdi 110, it had 43k miles onthe clock and the engine was not tight at all and got the official mpg figures no sweat - averaged 56-60mpg.

I did test drive a C4 last year and saddo here got an average of about 59mpg This 1.6 Hdi 110 VTR+ it only did 1200 miles and probably completely shagged by the dealer who had the car for his own use. He demonstrated the red rev counter just before we swapped seats, 2 minutes into the test drive. To55er. I did like the car very much. Way and above better quality than my past Citroens but I would not be able to cope with anymore teething problems.

Better specced than my current car which has never been in the dealership since I got it.

Official mpg firgures are created by cars tested on the rolling road and does not respresent real world conditions.

Overall Citroen offical MPG figures approach that of official figures.

Skoda, Seat some VW, Audi and BMW are quite faithful too.

Manufacturers like Ford,Nissan and Pacific Rimpiece Mini Hi Fi with DVD surround sound somehow fall short.

It's all about having a light right foot and treating the car right not just during its run in period eg not turning that C4 rev counter red when changing gear e.g: gentle acceleration especially when cold, using engine braking and anticipating the road conditions ahead.

I am still running my 1 series in - done 11.5k miles so far. Averaged 46 at first but touching the cloth of the 50s now. It will get better.

Wozza is gonna take the piss out of me now. Alright mate?! lol

Hey the only reason I take the piss is cause you bought a bmw lol.

Although just few things most engines are already broken in on the dyno not properly but they have been broken in a bit. And on a new engine it is actually better to give it hell and basically drive it like you stole it once its been given the chance to heat up etc dont be afraid to have it hitting the red line or getting close better for breaking in an engine.

I take the mick out of you for ragging your engine!

Diesel is the way to go!

You know you want a 1.6 Hdi 75 bhp Blingo!

Cheers for being kind by the way! lol

I get fairly decent mpg when i get out of the centre otherwise the mixutre of traffic and usually hitting every single traffic light makes my consumption go to hell.

My average speed the other day was a whole 9mph and my consumption was around the 24mpg mark.

mines the 1.6 petrol engine and its got 800 miles on clock and this is showing 37.6 mpg which it has been on for a few days now and im already impressed as engine is still tight and no where near run in but good figures and aircon has been all constantly and i aint no sunday driver either..... :(

mines mostly around town so we only get 27.5 mpg according to the computer, will have to see how close it is by working it out next time. is all of your off the computer?. thats on unleaded.

also have tried super unleaded and bp ultimate or what ever it is,for a few tank fulls but didnt find any improvement on mpg and performance.

im just using the computer (not manually). I did try a few premium petrols such as optimax but didnt really noticed much difference except the price. However my car does seem to run much better on Shell (just the standard stuff) than petrol elsewhere. Not sure why but my local shell garage is the cheapest anyway.

most of my driving is on country lanes etc with a bit of town driving average speed is 29mph on computer not as good as wifes 1.4 jazz thats up at 49.8 at minute but the c4 is a bigger heavier motor and im not into supermini size cars and we are more than happy with 37mpg both unleaded, tryed super unleaded before but £1.05 A LITRE made me feel ill when filling up.

Just come back from a week touring Derbyshire from west London in VTS diesel. Overall was 55 mpg by the time I got back - the initial motorway run up the M1 got me over 60 mpg. I was trying hard to be frugal though and traffic conditions dictated one of those 50 mph moving jams most of the way. Still, a week's holiday all on the same tankful can't be bad.
