barns Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 I have seen on another topic about polish before on here but cant remember if it mentioned costs and where to purchase from etc all i can remember was something about clay decided to keep on top of this motor and would like some recommendations on which car polish fetches this paint up best.Slight restrictions on time and cost ie don't have hours to spend doing it or want to spend silly money on it but i want it to look smart as this iron grey seems to look dirty quite quickly. wozza Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Quite a dark colour would say use meg nxt wax or nattys blue i think it is. Around £15 a tub can be got from halfords. And the quick clay system is around £12 which gets rid off all the hidden dirt tar dead bugs tree sap etc from the paintwork and if you use the detailer on its own before the car gets dirty stops you having to wash it all the time and only take 15 minutes to do once you have done the car properly. Stuey Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 MEgs NXT tech wax is the mutts nuts mate!! I did mine with it about a week ago and it is still shining although it is getting dusty now it has stopped raining for 5 minutes Like Wozza said it is availble from halfords for about 15 quid and comes with a little applicator pad thingy so you dont have to worry about cloths and such Quote
Welshguy Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Guys your talking about Wax's - Barns is asking about Polishes. Although I haven't used it, I've heard good things about the Poorboy's SRP range of polishes - they come in various strengths so you can be sure you wont damage your paintwork. Check out Detailing World for advice and example pictures. Quote
Stuey Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 good point welsh!! I use autoglym super resin at the moment as I bought a bottle a few months ago...seems to do the job pretty darn well Quote
ham's c4vts Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 yes stuey, i use auto glym super resin too and find it very good but will try that meguirs nxt? Quote
Stuey Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 I reckon NXT tech wax on top of resin would be much goodness Quote
wozza Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 stage 1 and 2 of the 3 stage system from megs does the trick as well. Quote
dave&trace Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 we are going to try motor worlds new carplan polish next time has anyone tryed it yet? Quote
wozza Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Not tried any of the carplan stuff apart from the back to black which is what i use on it. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 i use that turtle wax extreme tyre gel for the tyres seams to las longer than back to black and doesnt build up like it Quote
wozza Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Yeah i use that on my tyres the stuff in the green container? Good stuff brings the tyres up really well. But use the back to black on my sidestrips and bumpers etc. Quote
Stuey Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I used a little bit of tyre shine on the plastic bits, seems to do the job. The door handles are just a bit slippy for the first few hours  Quote
ham's c4vts Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 just used megs nxt wax, see other thread, hopefully wozza can add my pics lol http://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/citroen/i...ST&f=103&t=1627 Quote
wozza Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Heres the pictures uploaded for you mate. And looks damn good as well very shiny. http://mybigspoon.com/wozza/hams1.jpg http://mybigspoon.com/wozza/hams2.jpg Quote
barns Posted June 9, 2006 Author Posted June 9, 2006 That looks sh*t hot !How long did you spend getting it to look that good, tyres as well, do like black when its clean for 5 minutes :) Quote
wozza Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 been looking at mine and im to tempted to take the badges off if there just stuck on as they just seem to collect dirt when its parked at my parents place the tree sap just covers everything and loads of bits get stuck in them only way to clean it is with a toothbrush and i cant be bothered with that everytime. Anyone removed them? Anyone know if there just stickered on or if there pushed into holes in the bodywork? Quote
Stuey Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 if they are glued on they you have the hassle of cleaning the glue off, paint fade ETC ETC... Quote
wozza Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 On a brand new car wont be noticeable. And the glue you just polish it off done it on other cars. Just dunno if i want them removed or not. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 washing took around a good hour including leathering off, the the wax aplication and tyres around another hour, bearing in mind the car was pretty clean to start with.i used turtle wax extreme car wash and wax using a wash mitt, megs nxt wax and turtle wax extreme tyre gel.i do tend to wash car every week any way. going to use a clay bar next as i need to get rid of tree sap and dead flys. Quote
GuyNorth Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Well I've just been to Halfords and blown £50 on car wash sundries. Way I see it, £50 is a small price to pay to keep my £12000 car looking clean. Bought some Megs 'Gold-something-or-other' carwash, some Megs NXT wax, some Carplan alloy cleaner, woolen wash mit, polishing mit, silicone drying squeegie... I could go into the bloomin' valeting business :) I saw those clay bar things but have never used one. How do they work then?I don't really have too many bird sh*t / tree sap woes as the car is kept in a garage so maybe I don't need one?? G. Quote
wozza Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 if you run your finger over your paint and it doesnt completely feel smooth and like glass then the clay bar gets rid of all that. You basically spray on the detailer to act as a lubricant between the clay bar and the paintwork and then just rub the bar over your paint. Quote
Welshguy Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Wozza is spot on there - I'll just add that you can get various strengths of claybar to clean your car with. Various strengths for different types of dirt! The Megs QuikDetail package (around £13) is a good starting package. As for the Gold Class Shampoo - excellent choice my good friend! :D Quote
wozza Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 I bought the nxt wash ages ago love the smell of the stuff and it has lasted me over a year and theres still over half the bottle left. Seems like a lot of money when you first buy it but it lasts ages. Only thing that doesnt seem to last with me is the quick detailer as i use it sometimes instead of washing if its just needs touching up. Any of you tried the megs carnauba wax its stage 3 in the 3 stage system? It smells the way banana milkshake tastes. And the shine it gives is pretty good as well. Need to wax and polish my car again this week but just a bugger doing it at my parents i spend ages on it and by the time i've washed and waxed it theres tree sap on the thing already. Quote
