GuyNorth Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 ...My new C4 that is :D Well I've only done about 80 miles in it so far but everything seems to work just fine and there are no bumps, rattles or squeaks (yet) so here's hoping I've got a good'un.Once you start to delve into the instruction book, you realise just how many toys and gadgets are built into this thing (must have gadgets). I particularly like the bluetooth phone setup, but then I'm easily pleased - :) It handles so much better than my old wallowy Picasso as well, much sharper steering etc. It's just like Xmas... G. barns Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 which model did you go for? personnaly i got the sx,wish i had gone for a bit higher model and got one with climate control instead of the manual air con thats all i miss from last car just done 1k and love the car only thing i'm unsure of is the fixed steering wheel not one for two hands on the wheel and keep catching radio functions and end up changing channel all time.Salesman tryed to get me to have a picasso but not into mini buses so went for the c4 :) Quote
GuyNorth Posted June 10, 2006 Author Posted June 10, 2006 I went for the 1.6 SX (petrol). Features in the higher models are nice but you've got to draw the line somewhere... Personally, I don't miss climate control. I don't like the way the fans go bananas when the cabin temp is much higher than your 'desired' temp. Much prefer the control you have with the manual aircon. As for the fixed hub steering wheel. I think the argument that the buttons on it fall easier to hand is cobblers as I've had no problem with cars with a conventianal setup. However the true benefits are in having a proper full sized airbag in there which you can't have with a rotating hub. Also it looks different and as far as I'm concerned, 'different' is good :) G. evilone Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Had mine for 11 months. I could not live without the steering wheel controls, They take a while to get the hang of. But when you do you will wonder how you managed without them. Quote
wozza Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Climate is quite good on the C4 i think never had the fans blowing too much anyways seems to keep things quite well maintained. Steering wheel controls are also quite useful its designed more as a safety thing though so you can keep both hands on the wheel more often thus you are more in control of your car and have more feeling as to what it is doing. Can say i do miss my steering controls for my stereo now that i dont have them was much easier to skip a song before on the steering wheel rather than having to look down or feel around for the right button etc. Quote
Mat Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 I was very lost when i borrowed my gf's car. Had to think about changing the radio volume Quote
hertsnminds Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Climate is quite good on the C4 i think never had the fans blowing too much anyways seems to keep things quite well maintained. This weekend was a good test, temp reading 37 deg C climate set to LO, serious fan action :D Also the first time I have seen the 3rd segment of the water temp indicator stay on for more than 2 mins. Stuey Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Also the first time I have seen the 3rd segment of the water temp indicator stay on for more than 2 mins. mine sits on 3 as a general rule...random :D aircon on full blast, lovely Quote
wozza Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Do that as well with manually changing the climate but i meant in auto mode it doesnt just like to blast you out with massive amounts of cool air at any one point. And my temp indicator goes to 3 strips as well probably just a thing between diesel and petrol cars. Never seen it get above the 3rd strip even when giving the car hell which resulted in a 9mpg consumption according to the trip comp on some country roads. Quote
citroeneddie Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 I think that the C4 is a great car and may get one when I change my C5 early 2008 as the kids have grown up now. But you get a lot of car for the money with the C5 compared with the C4 due to bigger discounts. Quote
wozza Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 You can get great deals on the C4's as well. I mean jamjar are offering the VTS180 for £13,650 base price which is £4,000 cheaper than citroens list price. And the level of standard equipment is rather large. The 2.0 HDI exclusive is £14,000 My model comes in at just under £12,000 Makes me a little upset reading that thinking i could have had the VTS if i could have paid the insurance as its only a tad more expensive :/ Lol. Quote
citroeneddie Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Wozza If you'd waited you'd never buy. As long as you got the best deal at the time, that's all that matters. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 just had my insurance quote wozza, £286 fully comp :D :) through sainsburys Quote
Stuey Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 just had my insurance quote wozza, £286 fully comp :) :) through sainsburys I fecking hate you!! :D got an email from confused.com £785!! £400 cheaper than last year though Quote
wozza Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 My 1.6 is still £1,200 to insure with 1 years no claims. Comign up for 2 years. But its my postcode thats bumping it up went down to under £800 when i put my parents post code in. Get this though insurance for a VTS at this address. £4700 at my parents £2300. £2,500 difference just changing my postcode seriously what the hell is up with that! Surely something is a little wrong there. It costs more to live here and most of the crime isnt car related its drunk punch ups etc. Considering i live across the road from a club. Bloody annoying. Quote
Welshguy Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 lol dont get me started on insurance! I was condering getting a VTS that was for sale after completing my first year of no claims - but a quote on the VTS was still £1900! :D Quote
GuyNorth Posted June 16, 2006 Author Posted June 16, 2006 My insurance is around £280 fully comp for my 1.6SX through Esure.(34 YO, 10 yrs NCB, kept in garage) G. Quote
Stuey Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 looks like Ham has the best insurance by far...£280 for a VTS. I think he must be a vicar doing 12 miles a year :D that would explain why his car is sooo clean sorry Ham!! Quote
wozza Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Thing that affects mine massively at the moment is postcode and mileage I think. Saw this thing that gave postcodes a rating mine was off there chart in risk assessment. But also have it down for 15,000-20,000 a year for mileage. Probably only do around 12,000 by the end of the year unless but living in the centre i dont use it as much as i used to since i can walk everywhere. Some daft prices for insurance though when your this age and have a new car takes the piss some of the prices we have to pay. Best quote i got was £8234 on a 1.6 Fiat bravo. Was looking at one of those before i got my Clio that was only a couple years ago. Recently got a quote on a civic type R that was over £10,000 theres no way anyone can justify £10,000 on just insurance for a year. The cars not even worth that much. Quote
hertsnminds Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Recently got a quote on a civic type R that was over £10,000 theres no way anyone can justify £10,000 on just insurance for a year. The cars not even worth that much. They should just say we don't want to cover you. A few years ago I went through all the question with an insurer on the phone and then when it got to the part where they were about to tell me the quote they said..."We don't insure that car". Just another case of "The computer says NO". Rather than just waste time they should ask the questions that would stop them covering you in the 1st minute of the conversation not after 20 minutes of interrogation. The reason they wouldn't cover me was because the car was left hand drive. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
wozza Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 It would make more sense to say that rather than coming up with a daft figure best bit was as soon as i got that quote do you think the company would leave me alone? Nope! Constantly phoning me we can beat your quote we can beat your quote leaving text messages voicemails etc. Not bloody surprised they wanted my custom with figures like that needless to say i would never spend that kind of money on insurance i dont like paying £1000 but at my age i have to. Mat Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 (edited) Mine is insured for £242. I'm not a vicar either. Just 24 years old, 6 years NCD, park on the drive, 10k miles (tho upgraded to 15k for £15, and added gf (who has 3 points, 3 further pending AND 2 shunts :D ) for £10). Change of postcode cost another £12 when i moved house. The downside, if i crash, i have to pay the first £600. Before my C4, i had a 1.1i 96P Saxo. That was prety much the same, and for 3rd party FnT too !!! Edited June 17, 2006 by Mat Quote
