Ciaran2903 Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Just wondering if the suspension on the c4 was the same across the range, or if the coupe and hatchback suspension was different to each other? Does the VTS have stiffer suspension? Just wondering cause i read a review about the c4 saying that the ride was "comfortably sprung". Every other review i have read said the suspension is hard. Maybe this was the first review on the hatchback i have read? Any thoughts? Thanks Quote
wozza Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Mine is quite stiff on my car. But the VTS is ever so slightly lower you dont notice it until your next to one I only noticed when I parked up next to dave&traces. And the VTS is stiffer as well. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted June 19, 2006 Author Posted June 19, 2006 yeah mine is stiff too, anyone driven the coupe and the hatchback? Any different? Purely wondering. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 the vts is stiffer and less body roll too, not parked next to a non vts car to see the height difference Quote
lab44 Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 I thought they were all the same apart from the VTS which has a stiffer suspension setup for improved performance. The only thing that could possibly make a difference is that the VT / VTR coupe and I think it is the SX in the hatchback have 16 inch wheels whereas the other models higher up have 17 inch and lower profile tyres which probably affects ride quality. Still the C4 is quite strange - in my opinion it rides quite hard but on the other hand it is very comfortable and smooth which I suppose could lead you to the opinon that the ride is both hard and soft lol. BTW i did drive a 5 door on my test drive and that felt quite hard too so dont think there is any difference with the standard coupe/ hatchback. Quote
wozza Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 I thought they were the same throughout the range as well apart form the VTS. WHich was only down as being stiffer and sportier in most reviews but it is lower as well after comparing them side by side. You wouldnt notice if they were not side by side though. Quote
wozza Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Just found this for those of you who maybe want to go rather low or have an adjustable suspension so the modders basically. http://www.ultimate-suspension.com/ultimat...TROEN&modele=C4 30 to 60mm drop at the front and a 40mm drop t the rear. All your for the small fee of €800 Quote
kitsona Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 I'm still not happy with my rear suspension as it can't cope with ruts in the road and clonks dramatically and uncomfortably far too often when travelling over moderate bumps. Citroen say it's 'normal for the model'. I find this really hard to believe but can't make any progress with dealer or Citroen UK. New shock absorbers haven't helped. I avoid taking passengers in the car as much as I can to avoid having to apologise. My C4 is a hatchback 1.4 SX but I haven't been able to find out if it's just my car , this model or others as well. barns Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 mines the 1.6sx hatch and to be honest its a firm ride as far as the suspension goes but the seats counter this as they are quite soft.I live out in the sticks and the roads around here are terrible,The car does some times knock from the front suspension but nothing major.this is quite normal for a firm suspension, but because of the state of the roads i tend to go through suspension bushes quite quickly and these knock like hell when worn but you tend to feel the car corners poor (if back ones worn) and you get a bit of uneven tyre wear but if you have had new shockers i dare say these will have been checked .... Does it only knock only at speed or when the car is carrying rear passengers? Quote
billynibbles Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 The general concensus seems to be that the VTS is the only one to be stiffer (or should that be even stiffer?), but I wonder if they made any extra provision to firm up the front end of diesel VTSs still further to allow for the weightier power plant, which I seem to recall is 100 kilos heavier. As with others here, I'm glad I don't have to sit in the back Quote
lab44 Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 I have a 1.6 petrol coupe VTR and everyone I have every given a lift to have mentioned how comfortable the car is and how well it rides. Although the ride is a tad harder than you would normally expect from Citroen its nowhere near as hard as the Focus or Clio which are far more uncomfortable for passengers. Quote
wozza Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 See my clio was more comfortable sometimes and less at others compared to the C4 depends on the ground going over. About the only thing i miss from the clio though is the chuckability of it just cant do the same with the C4 it understeers a fair bit more. Quote
lab44 Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 well the clio i went in was the 182bhp sport so obviously it wasnt set up to be comfortable but I found it too harsh down the motorway for my liking. The Focus ST on the other hand is a much better ride. Still if you want a nice ride I have heard the C6 is rather good Quote
wozza Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Which 182 version theres a few different ones. Some of which had rather hard suspension setups especially the trophy but there designed with track days in mind and they handle so well. No way in hell a C4 could ever keep up with a 182 hell most cars cant lol. Quote
