C4VTS Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Just wondered why you C4 owners bought the C4 instead of a Focus or some other car? What made you decide to definitely buy ? Do you prefer 3 door Coupe or 5 door ? Also, do the Diesels get quieter after they have a higher mileage, like over 10,000 miles, and does a new car generally get smoother to drive? Quote
wozza Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 New focus is dull and ugly, The C4 is rather different i prefer the coupe myself and its just a great looking car the interior is rather radical compared to other marques which is why when i look at any other car interior now they seem dated even when there brand new. Its a nice car to drive it handles well its comfortable. And the price was good. The only good thing i can say about the focus is the gearboxes and the gearchange feel so much better where as the C4's is a lil sloppy and not at all possitive. The HDI engine probably wont get any quieter i dont think not sure though and they will get better to drive over time as they wont be so tight so you will get better consumption and better power usually. If you have a new engine dont be worried to drive it like you stole it its actually good for the car to be broken in hard. Will also get smoother to drive as you start learning all those little quirks about the car and get used to them. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 i all ways like somthing different, stand out in a crowd everyone buys ford and vauxhalls Quote
wozza Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Can deffinately do that in a C4. Got out of mine at the shops the other day few guys were there saying thats a nice car and asking me about it etc. Although bunch of chavs the other day thought i had a roll bar on the top of my car not a spoiler and then said it looked sweet. I had to laugh but its nice when you get people saying they like your car. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 My car was parked out someones house and the people next door had builders round and every single one walked out of their jobs and stood around my car! :( Shame because at the time i was still 16 and therefore was a passenger! Quote
lab44 Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 I got my C4 three months ago. Choices were 307 / Astra / Golf / Mazda 3 / Focus or C4. Spent ages looking round the garages but nothing really caught my eye - none of them really seemed worth upgrading from my 306. 307 - doesnt look great, expensive and due to be replaced soon Astra - loved the sporthatch, nice modern interior but once again pricey and no visibility whatsoever (goodness knows how you drive one) Golf - boring and overpriced Mazda 3 - looked like a decent car but very bland styling. Very roomy if I had a family which I havent lol Focus - this was my first choice, have always wanted a focus but was really dissappointed when i sat in one. Didnt feel that well built, cramped, odd and dated interior design. Didnt test drive it because I knew I didnt like it though I'm sure as all the reviews say they are a great drive. At the end of the day the C4 was the only car within my price range that really wowed me - looks expensive, sporty, drives well but without the high price tag or insurance groupings of a more expensive car + 0% finance over three years really couldnt be beaten. On the negative side of course you have Citroens poor track record for reliability + depreciation. Still my family have owned a range of French cars including a BX, laguna, Renault (Rubbish) 5, 306 and none have caused any problems whatsover. Few niggles on the C4 such as a rattle and electric window button not working but nothing major and to be expected from a new car. I know someone who purchased a brand new golf and the power steering broke within a week so I dont think other brands are neccessarily always more reliable anyway. Still if i had a choice I do really fancy one of them Alfa Romeo Breras (even if i will be mostly looking at it broken down most of the time lol) Quote
billynibbles Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 Ditto to all of that - I've had a few people ask me why I didn't buy a Focus instead. I've driven one of the new models for two weeks whilst on holiday, and I have to say that Fords have really shot themselves in the foot with the new model. Out goes the old more innovative design and back in comes a really so-so looking car with a really boring dashboard, but then what do we expect from a company that ditches the Puma? I'm surprised the Ka hasn't been axed too. After all, we wouldn't want to drive something looking unusual would we? Wrong, Mr Ford, we do, and fortunately for us, Citroen make them. I still have to keep looking back over my shoulder at my VTS coupé - silly I know but name me one mid-ranged Ford you'd do that for! Quote
Stuey Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 I learnt to drive in a new focus so that was out from the off. In its defence it is not a bad drive but as people have said already its a grown up car. I had a look at astras but for a car with the same spec list as my C4 then you are looking in the 16K region which to be honest is daft money for that kind of car. For me it was a toss up between a Seat Leon (new shape) and the C4. The reason I went for the C4 was because it was there ready to be driven and be prodded at the dealership. The Leon wasnt out at this point. I have recently driven one to Bristol and back and it was mighty impressive all things considered so the FR model may well be a replacement for the C4 in due course... Quote
Welshguy Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 I saw the advert and I went and bought one.... Quote
Mat Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 I saw the advert and I went and bought one.... I think i was the same. Scary! Quote
C4VTS Posted June 24, 2006 Author Posted June 24, 2006 Thanks for all your comments. I finally did the dirty deed today, and got myself an ex-demo C4 VTS HDi  I take delivery next saturday. Original one I wanted was sold this week. Test drove one yesterday, but it did not feel right. It was another ex-demo car. This one I have bought today drove so much better, and I just knew that this was my car! It has full leather heated seats which are very comfortable. It will be goodbye to my old Audi A4 with nearly 200,000 miles on the clock  I did not bother testing other makes of car! I knew the VTS was for me, but needed to find the right one. Maybe I will post some pics of new purchase next week :D Quote
wozza Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 The way it drives will change as the miles pile on deppending on the mileage and how its been broken in if its been ragged from new they do normally drive better. Quote
Joeblunt Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 Thanks for all your comments. I finally did the dirty deed today, and got myself an ex-demo C4 VTS HDi  I take delivery next saturday. So C4 VTS isn't your Reg Number then? Quote
C4VTS Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 So C4 VTS isn't your Reg Number then? No, thats not my Reg plate, but it would be a good one to have. Don't think I would ever get a personal plate, as I like to be in stealth mode when on the roads. Don't want the law remembering my plate number  Quote
Mat Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 If i had C4 VTS, i'd be selling it and buying my new mansion !! It must be worth a bom.b Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I found the plate: C4 VTR, but was a POA, so it must have a REALLY hefty price tag! Quote
Stuey Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 if it is POA then you are looking about 15K plus...I want C4 STU but I havent seen it anywhere yet, but I would guess it will be about a years wages... Quote
