citroeneddie Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Citroen v Ford? Don't make me laugh, at least What Car? likes them. <_< Quote
Safety Engineer Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 I went for the C4 as I had already had a Xsara and found it to be very good, sold it at 140,000 miles and it never let me down. As for the Focus, I worked for the company that did the seats for the first one and the seats were of the centreline for the steering wheel so you had a slight twist when you drove, from what I've heard it hasn't been solved with the new model. Kit to price ratio - the focus can't compare to the C4. Practicality, I looked at the new Focus and took along an A-Z map and couldn't get it into the door cubby hole, given that I drive 60k a year all over the south east I want my car to take my maps. Ride, ok it's a 'driver's car' whatever that means but on a long drive it's just too hard, the C4 has a good blend of stiffness and comfort, after all if all I did was hare around country lanes then the Focus wins over the C4 but I don't. Space saver spare tyres, standard on the Focus and it's one of these grotty skinny little things, ok I have a SSSP on the C4 but it is more like a proper 15" tyre so is less out of kilt with the 17"s on the car. Mat Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Do we have space savers on the C4 then? I hadnt realised. Quote
Safety Engineer Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 On the VTR+ with 17" alloys, apparently it's because the 17"wheel sticks out from the spare well. The 15" & 16" have standard wheels. but cannot confirm this. Quote
Mike5483 Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 OD should be any different between the wheels though should it??? What you gain in rim you loose in tyre. Can you put the spare on the front or should it go on the back. I know odd sized wheels should be put on the back of a FWD car, but if the OD is the smae, it shouldnt matter. Quote
wozza Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 And you guys know you shoudl always put new tyres on the rear of the car as well right? Should never replace the front 2 tyres with brand new ones and leave the crappy old ones on the rear. Quote
jonfish Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 I had an old style focus 1.6 petrol 5dr which was excellent. By the time I was ready to change, the new FOCUS was out. I could not believe the awful styling of the new model. I fancied a diesel primarily for the torque and the 1.6HDi Ford/PSA engine has good reputation. I considered getting a nearly new run out focus (but old 1.8 engine) but C4 looked the part and was almost the same size as old focus. I don't think my C4 goes round bends quite as well as my old focus and the ride isn't as good either. This might be partly due to 17" alloys on my VTR+. I also miss the Quickclear windsceen. Otherwise I have no regrets - I still get people looking which is nice. Quote
wozza Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 When you use the A/C in the C4 to clear the windscreen doesnt take too long i usually just crank the fan up to max and put the recirculation thing on takes a couple seconds then quicker than pressing the windscreen button i found anyway. But not gonna compare to the focus since it had a heated front screen. But once i noticed the elements in the screen it bugged me lol. Love the gearchange in the focus though much nicer. And it does drive better but looks wise the C4 wins and also wins on price and equipment. There both good cars ones better in 1 way others better in another. Quote
barns Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 i too test drove various cars before i went for the C4,but as for the focus it did nothing for me when i test drove it.It was comfortable, handled ok,not bad looking on the inside but face lift has done nothing to improve the look in fact its had the opposite effect it looks a bit bland,I actually prefer the look of the old model although the new one has improved features it not a flair motor unless you can afford an ST which is the nuts........... C4VTS Posted July 8, 2006 Author Posted July 8, 2006 I now have my C4VTS HDi, and am very happy with it, and it's only my first day with it! I did not buy a Focus because it looks so dull. I remember when Top Gear parked a Focus on a busy Croydon high street before it was even on sale, and nobody looked at it, even though it was on double yellow lines! Also saw Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear saying that Ford should have built the C4, and the C4 was their car of the year. The C4VTS has much more included options that Ford charge extra for, including the xenon headlights, traction control and ESP, and many extras that Ford do not even offer as an option! The Focus was just too expensive compared to the C4, and from what I have read on the FFOC owners forum, the Focus has too many poor build quality issues, and all their dealers are crap at servicing. I have definitely made the right choice :) Quote
