wesbar Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Just filled up my 1.6hdi vtr+ with this stuff and have to say that the performance improvement is very noticeable especially in 2nd and 3rd. I'm usually sceptical of these 'performance fuels' as my experience with petrol variants show little if any imporvement but this stuff is good although it should be, it was 7p a litre more :D . Gonna be hard to go back to 'normal diesel now. Check out this video showing two cars racing, one using ultimate diesel and one using normal diesel. Quite an improvement. http://www.bp.com//sectiongenericarticle.d...ntentId=7009070 Quote
wozza Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Your MPG not gone up as well? Few people notice better MPG so the extra it costs then balances out. Quote
pork_pie Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Hmm something to bear in mind with this ultimate diesel. Might fill the tank on pay day seeing as its £1.06 per litre!!! lol Anyway - I would like to hear anyone who has tried the Unleaded 102 fuel, at £2.42 a litre, which is only available in the South East. KFk? Quote
wozza Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 thats only good if your driving a boosted motor really and are on trackdays as the only time you will get somethign out of it even then its bloody ridiculously priced. And unless the cars mapped for it wont see any benefit. Quote
pork_pie Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Sounds like the fuel for your future car mate. For £2.42 a litre you get a certificate of analysis. Oooh. Each batch of fuel is hand prepared alledgedly. ------------------------------------------------------------I can imagine going to Kent to fill up then once you're back in Manc, its time to fill up. DOH Are you implying that its pointless to fill my mums 1.0 VVTi Yaris with it?! lol Quote
wozza Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Wont even be useful for any of the cars im looking at next. Just pointless to be honest its good on highly tuned supras / skylines etc thats about it. And certificate of analysis ...id have to be certified for filling a car up with that! Be like £130 to fill the tank! Quote
billynibbles Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Sounds like the fuel for your future car mate. For £2.42 a litre you get a certificate of analysis. Give it a couple of years - basic unleaded'll cost £2.42 a litre! Quote
wozza Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Its not been so bad around here recently 92p a litre at the local garage isnt too bad. 99 for optimax. But god knows why anyone would spend £2.40 a litre is beyond me unless you have the cash to throw away and own a lambo / ferrari etc then it might be worth it but then again most ferrari drivers just seem to go posing in them women used ot pick her son up at a school in a 360 spyder near me. I mean what a waste of a car for a bloody school run! Quote
wesbar Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 well on my weekly run up to the lake district yesterday, i was getting about 5mpg more than i did last week. not bad. it probably pays for itself. Quote
Mat Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Its not been so bad around here recently 92p a litre at the local garage isnt too bad. 99 for optimax. I remember petrol half that price ! Quote
Welshguy Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Petrol prices suck! In the grand scheme of things I use next to nothing petrol wise (£20/£30 a week I think) but I hate paying that much for it. I feel for my brother...who owns a 1.8T Ibiza... :( Quote
wozza Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Only thign i miss about smaller engines lol the MPG you get. But ah well my 1.6 is now managing 31mpg so not too bad. Still put around £50 or more in a week. Should go down in a few days though since i will be moving home wont be using the car as much. Quote
wozza Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Fun HA! Gonna be a crap summer this year unfortunately. Wont be able to get away this time. Been a while since i spent a full summer in this country though. Went to tunisia last year year before spent a few months in canada etc. But just dont have the money this time. Will have to see what i can do though want to try find myself a half decent job get some money clear off my overdraft credit card etc. Kind of incurred massive debt as a student lol. Quote
Stuey Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 I use BP Ultimate petrol and it certainly feels a lot perkier on it. I'm getting around 36-38MPG. It is fecking annoying stoping for petrol every other services...I was on a blast to Swansea the other day in the Impreza and we had to stop for petrol 4 times. At about 80mph its averaging 17mpg....and can drop down below 10 for extended periods when going up hill ETC Its scary but god bless the petrol card :P even scarier I still want a Focus ST which is just as bad... Quote
wozza Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Go american! Corvette :P 350bhp and they can still get 30mpg then again they do around 1000rpm at 75 mph so not hard to see why they can get decent mpg lol. Quote
wozza Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Only problem with stangs is there to slow unless modded the SVT costs about the same as a nice vette and is still down on power and has the areodynamics of a brick. Plus id just prefer a 5.7 over the 4.6 or the crappy 5.0 block of the stang. The 5.0 is dreadfully underpowered 200bhp from a 5.0 V8! Quote
Stuey Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 I have carefully considered your argument and you are wrong :P Corvettes are nice but Stang's with the Roush kit on...mmmm Stang Quote
wozza Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 i was actually looking at stangs myself i saw a 99 SVT cobra convertible only £10,000 320bhp and after a few choice mods...namely a supercharger it'd be seriously quick and practical. mustangs do look gorgeous kitted up where as the vettes look better left standard. Quote
Stuey Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 dont get me wrong the vetts is an impressive looking beast but it starting to show its age. If someone wanted to give me a Z06 then I would happly take it off their hands but if it was my money (and I could live with the hassle of owning an import) it would have to be this one... Quote
wozza Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 See i love the C5 shaped vette prefer it to the newer one. But the new stang looks so damn nice. And both the vette and the mustang are not hard to look after over here actually. The vette can be serviced at your local vauxhall dealer due to it having same engine etc as the monaro. Mustang can be serviced at any ford dealer and parts are easy to find for both over here too. They also dont get bad mileage really for performance cars why im actually seriously considering going to an american car next. Have a big 4+ litre V8 and it'll still get 30mpg. Plus there cheap and easy to look after and easy to do anything to should you wish to add bits in future. Apparently the mustang engine is incredibly easy to do anything to your novice mechanic thats only ever changed an air filter can in around 10 hours supercharge a mustang and have it running properly. There supposed to be stupidly easy to work on. Would like a vette myself but i will be leaning towards an older stang mainly cause of the price and the fact cheaper to get bits for easier to live with day to day etc. Quote
Stuey Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 the key thing for me is that the vast majority are left hand drive. They can be converted but I cant imagine it is a small job. Insurance could be a nightmare as you will end up at a specialized company and they will charge you through the nose. I didnt know that Ford dealerships can service them but it makes sense... Monaro VXR is very high up my list of things to own too...6 litre V8 nice... Quote
wozza Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Left hand drive would not bother me you would soon adapt the way you drive to get used to it. And insurance I bet is a lot cheaper than you think. Was cheaper than a 182 for me when i checked out a mustang. The old mustang GT the 5.0 is only a group 13 or 14 car. Think the 4.6 300+bhp ones come in around group 17 or 18. And cause you need specilist insurance it has the opposite effect and makes insurance cheaper especially if you belong to an entusiasts club which there are a few of in the uk. You get rather good insurance prices. And the monaro is a lovely car bit expensive though but very cool. Quote
Stuey Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 didnt know that...thats not helped the "Stu dont buy a mustang" foundation though mate!! The Monaro really hasnt droped any value, which is nice for the people who bought them new but a bitch for everyone else and now that Vauxhall have stopped selling them the prices wont come down anymore really unless you can find an old press car or a high mileage one...looks like the Astra VXR has done the same aswell come to think of it the Focus ST is still very expensive. Looks like the VTS is the only car in that particular catergory that is coming down in price... Quote
