Having covered comming up to 1500miles in the VTS something has twigged.

The pre-owned VTS was dealer serviced prior to delivery. (very dubious about this but I'll take their word for it).

When I bought the car the dealer informed me that the service intervals are 20,000miles/ 2years.

However when I turn on the ignition, the "miles to next service" indicator indicates 10500miles. <_<

Does this mean that they have given me a "half service"?!  :D

When I bought my ex-demo car it was serviced by the dealer, and the service indicator said next service in 20,000 miles.

I have the Diesel VTS.

I just assumed they must be using better oils now or extended the service intervals.

In the service book it does not even mention the 2.0HDi engine, so perhaps it never ever needs servicing ? LOL <_<

Apparently the 2.0HDI's first service, aside from the quick check after you have the car, is at 20,000 miles.

Perhaps that is why my service book was not stamped ?

I sent it back to the salesman to get it stamped this week. <_<

Yours the diesel or petrol?

If its the diesel its 12,500 miles between services, 20,000 for petrol.

Petrol VTS, I notice in the manual (cant think of the exact wording) but it says light use reccommended 20,000 heavy 12,000miles....

I wondered if they gave me the lower service to get me back to the dealer with the spondooolies...

The car was supposed to have been "PDI'd" but i think all they did was kicked the tyres vacummed out the boot and that was about it. When I switched on the lights for the first time they failed.... <_<

Just found out today from service department, that the VTS 2.0 HDi is serviced every 20,000 miles.

I don't know why the 1.6HDi is only every 12,500 miles though. There must be a difference in the 1.6 and 2.0 HDi engines, apart from just the size, and I am not sure if this only applies to the VTS or other models also.

Dont like these extended service intervals.

It can be good for an engine having oil in it that long. I mean, I know modern oils are good, but this still doent seem right to me.

Hello,

On the point of service indicators i bought my car from Citroen Glasgow and they serviced it before i got it but the spanner shows all the time and this counting up in negative figures i.e -1500 etc.

I have followed the manual to reset it but it keeps reverting back to the service required state after a couple of starts.

Citroen want the car back in a couple of weeks but can anyone shed some light???

did you take it for the 1000 - 1500 mile service?

You should have like a coupon thing in the owners manual stating its a free service and needs to be done maybe they did not set the service indicator after doing that?

20,000miles is only a year for me, so this is very good news.

I did consider buying another Audi or Skoda which uses variable servicing, as they use 'fully synthetic oil' and service intervals can be up to 24,000 miles depending on how you drive.

My old Audi A4 had 10,000 miles servicing which is crazy for the mileage I do, as it's 2 services per year. Megabucks, even for the independant dealers.

Mine did that after it was bought (second hand).

Again it was just a software patch that solved the problem! Easy Peesy! :o

Not really, as far as I understand what it says in the manual, 20,000 miles a year is classed as heavy use so would reuire the Heavy Use 12,500mile service p.a.

Its not particulary clear and confused me more when the dealer put in his two peneth worth....

As far as I understand the intervals are

Light Use - 20,000/ 2 years

Heavy Use - every 12,500miles

Make of the terminology what you will. Heavy use could be deemed a year of stop start traffic 365days a year, or ragging the rev limiter everytime you use the motorway... :P

But then light use could be using the car every three days to go to the shops, but then I would class that as heavy as the car is getting minimal use, but increased wear from the shorter journeys/ short warm up times. Me personally I would call that heavy use...

Still non the wiser as to why my VTS displays 10000miles till next service if I'm on a 20,0000 mile intervall, yet only covered 2000 miles since the service. Perhaps this indicator is calculated by the vehicle computer? ;)
