lab44 Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 Heard some people mention on the forum they have been using on trip reading for milage between fillups and one since they had the car. Looked on my car though and I can only seem to get two readings - one the constant reading as I drive and the second the average mpg since last reset. Am I missing something here or just being completely stupid <_< Marc Quote
wozza Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 Press the button on the end of the wiper stalk to cycle between sections you should notice numbered tabs 1 2 3 down the side of the fuel section. 1 is the instant mpg readout and amount of mileage left in the tank and also if you use it the distance till you arrive at the destination you selected. 2 and 3 are the same and both show number of miles travelled, mpg and average speed. If you hold the stalk button in when on menu 2 or 3 it will reset the numbers back to zero. So i use 2 between fill ups and 3 i only reset when it wont go any higher so i know the total consumption i have been getting over various tanks of fuel and various driving habits. Managed to prove to myself yet again though that optimax makes the car feel a whole lot better and mpg deffinately goes up. Changed to optimax again recently and i have got a 6mpg increase just changing fuel driving habits are exactly the same. Quote
syrup Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 Hi Marc, If you push the end of the right hand stalk (washer control) it toggles through three displays shown on your display. The first one is a symbol of a car showing mileage available on fuel left, average miles per gallon and distance to destination if set. Next is 1 showing mileage done since reset- average mpg - average speed. Most people use this between fill ups. You reset this by depressing and holding in the end of the stalk while on this setting. Next is 2 the same as above, I have not touched this since getting my car, so it shows me mileage done - average mpg and average speed since new. Again this can be reset in the same manner. I hope this helps Keith Quote
wozza Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 Also from what i have noticed on mine the total mileage reading on 1 of these displays will only read to 6250 miles or close to that cant remember if its 49 or not i reset mine a few weeks ago. I know its because this is when the reading would have reached 9999km. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 I think i may be able to shed some light on this. As, im sure, alot of you are aware there are different screens between the models. (Three i believe) In the VTR it has only one trip showing on the middle screen. It displays all the same things as the other sreens: Intsant MPG, Miles driving from last reset, average MPG, Average Speed....... It is also reset using the same way (holding down the button on the end of the stalk) There is also the trip used on the main display (the one with the speedo) on the left hand side by the fuel indicator, showing: Miles done since last reset, and miles till next refill. To reset this trip there is a large button displaying "Trip" just by the main display. Therefore i would asume you drive a model along the same spec lines as a VT/VTR : a LX/SX. OR..............I could have got the wrong end of the stick! <_< Quote
lab44 Posted July 26, 2006 Author Posted July 26, 2006 Yup your exactly right Ciaran. Spent ages in my car last nyt trying to work out what Wozza and that were going on about. Then i had a look in the instruction book and realised there are two different screens like you said - looks like me and you have the crap ones lol. Still at least it shows im not going mad :o Quote
wozza Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 That another thing the VTR+ has over the VTR then which isnt mentioned in the specs. Quote
billynibbles Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 On the subject of fuel computing, the 'range left in tank' must be a difficult one to compute, and can lead to complaints if not taken with a pinch of salt. I was at the dealers a while back when an irate customer came in complain that he'd just run out half a mile from bringing it in for a service, when the computer reckoned he'd got 30 miles left. (What he thought the garage were going to use to test the car is another matter) Well, silly him, I know, but as it only seems to update every 10-20 mins or so, he may have been in a total gridlock in the mean time and used up what was left before it could recompute based on present usage. Mine always seems to reset to around 472 miles when I fill up, and if I immediately get onto the M4 and drive sedately, it starts to read nearer 800! Of course, this soon alters again when I get into the Slough Trading Estate! I have however managed to get about 750 out of a tank before chickening out when it was reading 50 miles left, so maybe I could squeeze 800 out if I wasn't such a wimp. Quote
hertsnminds Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 seems to update every 10-20 mins or so I thought the updates were milage rather than time related and were based upon the guestimated MPG. Hence if you travelled the previous mile at 50MPG the range is higher than if the last mile was covered at 30MPG. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote

I rarely get stuck in a jam straight after buying fuel, so that would explain why the update times differ for me depending on the speed I manage straightaway afterwards, and it also explains why it's possible to have a projected range of 30 miles left, only to get stuck in a jam (thereby doing no further miles at all), and to run out. The moral being, don't rely on the 'miles left in tank' figure when the reading is very low, especially if your style of driving/fuel economy is about to differ for the worse. Thanks for that. Stuey Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 they beep for more fuel when you get down to 2 bars on the readout (about a gallon) it normally comes on with about 50 miles left on the display. so I can normally go about another 70 miles... Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 they beep for more fuel when you get down to 2 bars on the readout (about a gallon) Yep i have had that too. I was on the way back from Eastbourne, and it said i had exactly the same amount of miles left as the amount of miles back home. I have to say i was a bit worried ;) . It got to about 15-20 miles and then it stopped reading it! :P Never thought i would run out, until i lost the reading. Then you start imagining the worst! I got home fine! Quote
Mat Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 ... I got home fine! But what about to the petrol station ? Quote
Stuey Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Never thought i would run out, until i lost the reading. Then you start imagining the worst! ;) mine has done that a couple of times, it is quite scary!! the first time was when I picked her up from the garage brand new...tight bstards!! Quote
Seefour05 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 I'd been wondering for ages how to reset the mileage readings when you press the stalk. Didn't occur to me to jusy hold it in! Quote
C4VTS Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 I'd been wondering for ages how to reset the mileage readings when you press the stalk. Didn't occur to me to jusy hold it in! I had to check the manual when I first got mine, as all the controls on the steering wheel were totally alien to me. In fact an evening spent reading the manual is a necessity to get the most out of the C4.There is still some controls I have not really played with much yet. :P What confused me most was why there are so many different trip computers ? ;) I have the hang of it now though just about. lab44 Posted July 27, 2006 Author Posted July 27, 2006 You should have brought the VTR - apparently we dont have half as many trip computers - or gadgets ;) Marc Quote
wozza Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 i didnt know stuff like that was only on the VTR+ until just now find that a bit odd really woulda thought they put that kind of thing on the other models as well. Quote
C4VTS Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 You should have brought the VTR - apparently we dont have half as many trip computers - or gadgets :P Marc VTR is no good for me then, as I love gadgets  I guess that's why I got a VTS. ;) Quote
wozza Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 VTR+ has most of the gadgets just no TC (didnt need it) no xenon (would have liked) and no parking sensors (didnt want them) Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 But what about to the petrol station ? Its a mile down the road, and i mean DOWN the road! Luckily! :D Quote
Guest CE05LDB Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 The C3 style 1 Trip computers are different on each model aswell. Like mine is on the centre screen(Radio Display) and my mates C3 Desire is on speedo. But with his it only shows the numbers from left to right each time you press so Its hard to know which one your looking at. Like remaing miles to refill. On my car say example it show 100 and petrol logo well my mates would only show 100 in tiny numbers. The Multiscreen like mine is only on the C3 SX/Exclusive. But all the New Style C3 has it now From L to Exclusive Quote
