barns Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 whats your big plus point for the car and also your biggest gripe... i have to admit that i'm impressed with the way the car handles. corners well, takes speed bumps with ease and dont notice any body roll and it seems to stick to the road like glue. enjoy taking it on country lanes as its quite fun to throw around the corners, getting bugs off after is a different matter. <_< i no that people have compared it to smaller cars on here and said it isn't quite as good but it is a mid range car and makes for a good drive.i actually like the firm ride. bad point for me might seem a strange choice but hate the steering wheel.Fixed centre airbag with controls on is crap really in my eyes. i prefer the radio controls to turn with the wheel so you can adjust easier when cornering and not sure if it just my model but i'd also like to skip back tracks as well as forward.I dont think it has taken off really because i dont see any other car makers copying I no people say its for a better designed airbag but its not for me. Mat Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I like the steering wheel. Though it does take a bit of getting used to. Changing volume while steering is a bit strange, but you shouldn't really be playing with the stereo whilst manoeuvring anyway. My biggest gripe i think is the mountings for the roofrack. Quote
andya99 Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Still getting used to mine as have only had it a week or so, the steering wheel felt strange initailly but now feels perfectly natural to see the centre staying put, but can apprieciate the comments about the controls have found myself accidently changing the volume / source when steering. For me having a car with a bit of uniqueness it what separates it from the other mid size cars out there (for which there is a lot of competition) and as I understand it Citroen have never been shy of doing things differnently. The only niggle for me at this piont is the view out the rear window (mine's a coupe) and have found myself using the side mirrors more, sure this will even out as I get used to the size / feel of the car. Love the handling, yes it is a firmer ride but I like it alot. <_< Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 LOVES HOW COULD ANYONE NOT MENTION THE LOOKS YOU GET FROM PEOPLE!!!!!!!!! My mother was in the car with me yesterday and she couldnt believe how many people were staring at the car! I find the controls on the steering wheel a doddle. Have hit the horn a couple of times, only twice though. Love the cornering. Displays. Sound of engine <_< (Even in a 1.4!!!) The fact that i can beat ford focus's off the line! Boy racer pulled up along side me in a focus (therefore min. engine size= 1.4), he had limo tints front and back (naughty naughty), fart cannon, loud music ect ect and he started revving his engine. When the light went green, i had a shite start and still managed to kick his arse!(within the speed limits i might add!!) (And i had two mates in the car to make the car heavier) We were in a mood to get our own back from the years abuse from chaves (due to us going to public schools). Too many things i love about the car to list! Hates Visibility ( Front, rear, mirrors ect) There must be more but i cant think of any, proves that there are nothing to worry about! Quote
Rich_Eason Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 There are plenty good points the only areas that I think "need a bit more work" <_< are... (not necessarily bad) 1. The central arm rest deciding to extend by itself when braking, slowing, stopping, car moving.......poor quality control 2. Snatchy brakes 3. Gear shift not as good as it could be - inherited from another car These items don’t put me off buying another, I put it down as a trait of the car....all cars have them Foot note, I have never had a car before where I have been stopped to talk about it by so many people with pleasant comments. The C4 has looks to kill. Quote
GuyNorth Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Overall it's much better than my old Picasso and I'm very pleased with its looks & handling. 2 relatively minor points that annoy me: 1) The glove box is pathetically small (although I like the fact it's chilled by the aircon). 2) The large drawer I had under the drivers seat in the Picasso is now a much smaller drawer under the passenger seat of the C4. I'm guessing the above points are victims of the conversion from left to right hand drive but they're still annoying. Anyone know if the LHD C4 has a bigger glovebox??? G. Quote
wozza Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 See i think the rear view in the coupe is brilliant theres only that small section which you cant see out but looking back all you really see is glass. as a result i find parking etc a doddle. Handles well for what it is as well just wish there was a little more feedback to be had. love the gadgets, looks and brakes. Yes the brakes might be a bit snatchy but the way you stop that is by being more gentle not difficult to do. And well the car does have the best brakes of any car in this class. Quote

And well the car does have the best brakes of any car in this class. Disagree :D 80% of the time the brakes are good have good feel and are predictable. 20% of the time the same foot pressure results in me being snatched in the seatbelt..... I find this happens at lower speed.... Oh another gripe.... Citroen...Please, please, please fit adjustable height seat belt on future models for my own sake...it digs into the other halfs neck  All I get is..... *huff*.....*puff*....*cuss*...."ouch"..."this (insert expletive here) seatbelt.....*huff*...."Gawwwd"...... and so on <_< At this point I increase the stereo volume.... As you can imagine this is particulary tiresome on a 2.5 hour drive to Dorset  Quote
wozza Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 seatbelt pads are your friends. I had to get some as well for people that complained and the fact they dig into my neck as well which after a 6 hour drive to see family in scotland was a little annoying havnig it digging in. halfords sell some plain black ones so you cant really tell there on there from outside and there only a few quid so just put them on when needed Quote
Mat Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Here's a gripe i thought of on the way home from work. If you park the car in the sun, the crome on the gear stick gets red hot, and you cant change gear. Quote
barns Posted July 26, 2006 Author Posted July 26, 2006 visability in the 5 door isn't great, find it almost impossible to judge when reversing into a space, have been known to get out notice a 3 metre gap go and open the boot (just in case anyones watching) as if i intended it, then get back in a shift it back a couple of metre .................. With wozza on brakes these are superb........... Quote
C4VTS Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Good Points---------------Nice looking carVery quiet for a DieselComfortable seatsCruise control and Speed LimiterVery relaxing to drive on motorways.Standard Stereo has good sound qualityClimate ControlXenon headlights that see around cornersCentral LCD Instrument display.20,000 miles service interval. Bad Points-------------1st and 2nd gear changes not very smooth compared to my old Audi A4Difficult to judge front and rear of car when parking due to curvy bodywork.Rear visibility reduced on the Coupé due to bar across rear window.Attracts too much attention!Nowhere to put a mobile phone and still see it's display. (Going to get a bracket)Key needed for fuel cap. Radio/track changes only forwards on steering controls.Body Panels are a bit thin.Horn function location at bottom of steering wheel. Conclusion--------------The 'bad points' are very minor issues, and do not stop my overall enjoyment of owning and driving the car. The 'good points' far outweigh the 'bad points'. :o I am very happy with my VTS. :o Quote
wozza Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Im sure when i had my stock system i used to be able to go forward and back with tracks stations by using the scroll wheel. Been along time since i had the steering controls though so cant remember exactly. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Attracts too much attention! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o I am lost for words!!!!!!!!!! How is this bad!! Unless you are a private detective, criminal ect then how on earth can that be a bad thing! I love the looks and attention i get! Here's a gripe i thought of on the way home from work. If you park the car in the sun, the crome on the gear stick gets red hot, and you cant change gear. Have also found that, but just need to cup the knob instead. ( I know what your thinking, you dirty soul! :o) Im sure when i had my stock system i used to be able to go forward and back with tracks stations by using the scroll wheel. I can skip front and back Radio Stations, but not CD tracks. Love the brakes. Quote
billynibbles Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Conclusion--------------The 'bad points' are very minor issues, and do not stop my overall enjoyment of owning and driving the car. The 'good points' far outweigh the 'bad points'. :P I am very happy with my VTS. ;)Ditto to all of that. The VTS diesel is the best drive I've had in a long while. I've eradicated most of what annoys me - got some 'unofficial' embroidered seatbelt pads from ebay etc (the usual - only 99p but '500 quid' postage from HK). The only remaining creak and groan was coming from the two different types of leather used for the seat sides and the arm rest. Every time I cornered or went over a large bump, the flexing of the former was creating a really loud leathery creaking like a cowboy shifting in his saddle as it rubbed the suede of the arm rest. Problem solved with two strips of the velvet half of self-adhesive velcro applied to the arm rest to cushion the offending layers from eachother. I'm now looking at ways of stopping the arm rest sliding forward every time I stop - maybe a discrete application of that self-adhesive magnetic strip somewhere strategic but hidden? Just lately, I've noticed that the hot weather has caused the trim across the window bar in the coupé to sag and no amount of clipping it back cures it - very annoying as it can easily be seen in the rear view mirror. I may try some non-permanent adhesive in small dabs, like Uhu. I know we shouldn't have to do this stuff, but it's better than repeated visits to the dealer when I could be out enjoying driving the thing (which I do whole heartedly). In any case, could they have come up with anything better? Quote
Rich_Eason Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Billynibbles I wouldnt recommend using any adhesives to stick the plastic trim back on, take it back to the dealer. A friend of mine used to have a "scort" with the old foam pad fixing for the rear view and inevitably fell off every summer. He had a bright idea that perhaps if he used Superglue to stick it back on, it would never fall off. Unfortunatly the next time the windscreen was in the sun,it heated up the windscreen and found that the expansion rates of the various materials between glass and plastic were different and cracked the windscreen top to bottom. Apart from warenty issues, you also do not know the effect of the glue on the plastic. If the trim plastic has a high polyethene content there is little chance of sticking it with anything other than a butanol based adhesive which will "melt" a layer of the plastic to stick, and would also need a similar type material to stick too....This would attack anyfinish applied to the trim and "weather" sealants. Uhu glue would probably melt the glass sealants, attack the finish of the plastic but not actually stick it, and will come "unstuck" in no time at all in the elements e.g. expansion, rain. It would end up looking worse than having a saggy trim. Quote
billynibbles Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Billynibbles I wouldnt recommend using any adhesives to stick the plastic trim back on, take it back to the dealer. Good point about the chemical contents of various glues so I'll hold off on that one, but the thought of letting a dealer mess around with plastic trim fills me with no pleasure at all, especially as it appears to need the removal of two other bits of trim to get at it. It seems to clip into place quite positively, but after a couple of closures to the tailgate, it's limp again There's got to be another 'invisible' fix - I just haven't come up with it yet. Blu-Tac wouldn't work for anything under a constant pull, as anyone who's ever tried putting a poster on the bedroom ceiling, and woken up in the morning wearing it will know! Quote
hertsnminds Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Please, please, please fit adjustable height seat belt on future modelsMy 5 door VTR+ already has these, what model do you have? My biggest gripe on the 5 door is the stupid position of the reversing light giving very little help in illuminating what is behind you. It is in the same position on a Focus so Focus drivers must have reversing issues as well. Cup holder by the handbrake can only be used when stopped as it obstructs the handbrake when you have anything in it. Rear wiper only has intermittant function, have found this annoying in heavy rain as you cannot clear the rear screen. Rich_Eason Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 There are a couple of things you could use but wouldnt recommend it... One is the sticky stip used to stick on trim panels on cars. Clean both surfaces with Meths and then stick on. Only problem is that is quite thick. DONT use Nail Polish remover (May smell similar but contains Acitone and may melt plastic) or Turps as this will leave an oily residue. The other is a flexible silicon based adhesive such as Fosroc Nitoseal MS100, will cost £££ is only avalible in white or grey. Dont use No Nails type products....will again melt plastic especially containing polyethene. I'd get the dealer to do it. The more times you go back the more times they'd be fed up of seeing your face so will eventually do the job properly...thats the theroy anyway! ;) Quote
