can anyone help. i recently fitted a clutch on a xsara 1.4 02 plate. it was all straight forward as normal although once everything was in place and it was time to start the car it just would'nt start. after diagnosing the problem i realized it was something to do with the immobiliser unit. it wont recognise the keys and also the buttons on my key wont operate the central locking , they just dont work. there is also a light on (yellow square with a key symbol) the dashboard indicating there is a fault with the imobilser. its been wired up to a computer to try and reprogram it but the unit is locked out and wont let it to be reprogrammed so which means it has to be replaced. i dont want to spend over £800 at a dealer so anyone know of a way to bypass it or know of a company that will remap my ecu so that the immobiliser is bypassed. my second option is to get second hand parts but i would have to replace ecu, immobiliser unit, ignition barrel and keys. please someone help

Ian sorry I cannot help - but I have exactly the same problem - keylight comes on (97% of the time) and no start (the other 3% of the time it works !) Citroens seem to be replacing everything - 1 bit at a time but we havnt got to the dreaded ecu yet.

surely there's someone out there who can fix this for less than £800 + vat + labour etc etc

They could make a fortune (instead of the dealerships)

I recently saw a Peugeot 206 that was doing this. After having numerous trips to a main dealer and having various bits replaced over the course of 18 months, the owner discovered by chance that it would always start fine with the spare key. It was the chip in the key that was at fault all along.
