trypodz Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Hi All My previous car was a pug 206 GTi which with my driving style (fast) gave me around 32 MPG ....I now have the a C4 2.0 petrol VTs coupe and I was wondering what other rmembers get from the same model.......A bit acedemic but of interest all the same Cheers Quote
C4VTS Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I have the Diesel 2.0 HDi VTS Currently getting 47 mpg. Mostly motorway driving. First 2 weeks I got 45.5 mpg, so my driving style has improved. Economy is supposed to improve with increased mileage. Quote
pork_pie Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 The economy will definately improve when the engines properly run in - usually 12-15k miles. 47 is not bad at all from something which gives you 52 overall. All the parts in the engine are a bit tight. Pfnaaar. Quote
C4VTS Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I think the general rule is that you will get about 10% less than the 'official' combined MPG figure. Some people will get more, and others less, as it depends on your driving style and the type of roads you travel on. Examples listed below based on official combined figures in brackets, followed by 10% less 'real world' figure. (Official mpg) REAL MPG. 1.4i 16V 90hp (44.1) 39.69 1.6i 16V 110hp (39.8) 35.82 1.6i 16V 110hp Auto(37.2) 33.48 2.0i 16V 143hp(37.2) 33.48 2.0i 16V 180hp(33.6) 30.24 1.6HDi 16V 92hp (60.1) 54.09 1.6HDi 16V 110hp(58.8) 52.92 2.0HDi 16V 138hp 6 speed(51.4) 46.26 Quote
pork_pie Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Even taking the 10% into account - these are still very good figures. Citroen cars are pretty faithful when it comes to approaching official MPG figures. Skoda are good too. Spare a thought for them Ford drivers!!!! Actually lets not. Would sir like a 16 k diesel?Does it have air con?And the next joke is? Quote
Guest CE05LDB Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 The Mpg figure fot the 1.6i 16v Auto is good considering its the same as a Saxo 1.4i Auto Quote
Stuey Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 a friend of mine has a Focus ST and that averages about 19mpg...a combination of a big turbo and a heavy foot... Quote
Guest CE05LDB Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 My Brothers C3 is doing between 24 - 30mpg. I got the same car and very rare its under 30mpg. I have had it up to 55mpg last week Quote
Stuey Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I reset the mpg'o'meter on the way to work and I got 41.8 from it....muchos impressed!! Quote
Guest CE05LDB Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I do reset mine everytime I fill up with petrol. I might have the C4 1.6HDi SX Sensodrive next time. Its not called Sensodrive but it has the paddles etc like my C3 Exclusive Sensodrive. I will wait and see. Im not due to change my car intill April 2008 Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I filled up, reset the MPG, got home (about 10 miles), it read 39 MGP. Didnt drive it till the next day, got in it in the morning, it read 34 MPG!!!! :D How the hell does that work?!?! Quote
lab44 Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Mines doing 34.4 at the moment after 260 miles on a tank. Seems to be slowly improving as the engine loosens up (now 4000 miles). Certainly feeling much better to drive now. My engines 1.6. My mate reckons he gets 35 MPG out his Focus ST 170 though not sure how hes doing his calculations - he doesnt have a trip computer since it was an optional extra (typical ford lol) Not sure why yours changed Ciaran - I reckon someone nicked your keys and had a quick spin in it before you noticed lol Marc Quote
wozza Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 i know the clio 182 can still return 40mpg yet i find getting 33mpg out of my 1.6 difficult. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Not sure why yours changed Ciaran - I reckon someone nicked your keys and had a quick spin in it before you noticed lol That seems to be the only logical option! I had to pick my jaw off the floor after i read the MPG! I had a Jemery Clarkson moment! (i.e, yelling at an inanimate car! ) I hope no-one saw me! :P It went some thing like...... How the ***** **** ****** *** ***** ****** *** ****** **** *** do you ***** **** **** *** ******* **** *** lose that many ***********miles to the gallon you ******* ***** of ****!! Then....Im REALLY REALLY sorry! :D Doesnt stop me loving my C4 like mad! :D Quote
Fizzo17 Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 The adjusted figure you posted C4VTS are accurate for my 2.0l VTR+ petrol. I get 33.1 at the moment. That was 200 miles of 80-90 cruising on motorway and 40 miles of twisty country roads where I hardly got out of 3rd! Quote
bigrob Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Being an anal engineer type, I have startet doing my own MPG calculations to compare to the quoted ones on the trip computer, and I have noticed that my trip computer is over optomistic by somewhere between 3.5 & 5 mpg. I am still getting just over 50mpg from it though (diesel)! Quote
C4VTS Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I have startet doing my own MPG calculations to compare to the quoted ones on the trip computer, and I have noticed that my trip computer is over optomistic by somewhere between 3.5 & 5 mpg. I have compared my on board computer MPG to working it out manually with a calculator, and found my VTS computer is spot on. The speedometer is also spot on, as I have compared it to GPS speed. My old Audi A4 fuel computer used to over read by about 10%, and Golf's are the same. This explains why you often see Audi/VW owners claiming 50 - 60mpg. Quote
billynibbles Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 I have compared my on board computer MPG to working it out manually with a calculator, and found my VTS computer is spot on. The speedometer is also spot on, as I have compared it to GPS speed. Yes, I've compared ground speed as measured by GPS, not only in my VTS now, but in my previous Toyota, and the trend seems to be towards more accurate speedos, so no more 'rules of thumb' when passing Gatsos - damn! My wife's Smart seems spot on too. Of course, the GPS might not be dead right either, but when two independant measurements agree, it all starts to look right. So the only other factor to throw a fuel computer off course is the volume measurement of fuel flow. If they've got this right, then the mpg is right too, but it's a big 'if'. However, there's no arguing with a tank-to-tank check as long as the mile-ometer can be trusted, and as far as I can see from the one or two that I've done, I've little to complain about in terms of my mpg being lower than the official figures. ham's c4vts Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 ive just come back off holiday down to dorset from derby, ive compared computer mpg to real mpg(working with calculator and tank to tank) and i got 32.2mpg towing a daxara 218 trailer full of camping equipment, a full boot and two kids(ill post pics later via Wozza) traveling at 60mph on cruise controll.when i worked out at next fill up i got 31.6 mpg which will do for me B) http://mybigspoon.com/wozza/tow.jpg Quote
Guest CE05LDB Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 I have just come back from Devon and used a quater of a tank down and quater of a tank back. 140 miles each way and on The M4/M5 I Cruised at 70mph all the way averaging 47mpg Quote
Welshguy Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Do you ever get the urge to open her up on the motorway Ham? I know I would find it difficult to avoid...would help if I thought of the petrol I'd be going through! :D Quote
lab44 Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 My MPG seems to go up quite a lot as the engine warms up. Managed to get 40mpg the other day but then i got bored and stuck my foot down on the motorway and that was the end of that lol. Quote
Stuey Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 mine had an average of 46.5mpg at an average speed of 31mph over about 300 miles according to the trip computer, to say I was impressed was an understatement!! Quote
wozza Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 Just got home averaging 11.7mpg at an average speed of....6mph ***oops*** roadworks ;) Got it to 34mpg the other day though due to a trip to doncaster knocking it up compared ot the usual mainly town driving i do now. Quote
