ryte i have a C4 VTR+ and i was wonderin where all the other young VTR+ drivers get their insurance to see if i can get a cheaper deal than the idiotic prices ive been quoted so far!

well after alot of pondering over £3000 quotes i decided 2 fone my dad and tell him i was going to have to sell it, which i got the reply why dont i try putting him on the insurance first, so i tried it now i have got a quote for it for £670 :D

What details are you entering into it?

Be nice to know so i can advise you what things to do to get it lower.

And your actually better off phoning up companies and playing them off against each other as the net prices can be a fair bit higher than the prices they will give over the phone.

Make sure to add parents girlfriend whatever on to the insurance especially if there professionals as it will lower your premium. Dont add yourself as a 2nd driver though if your the main driver as its basically breaking the law in doing so.

Lower the number of miles per year you say you do. Tell them you have had use of other cars and driven some more powerful cars usually helps lower it again.

Which engine is it you have in your car? gonna guess the 1.6 if your only 17 otherwise your gonna get stung consider doing the pass plus course its around £80 i think but most insurance companies consider it as giving you 1yr NCB when you say you have done it.

Confused.com is hopeless really have to phone up. And might be worth getting a car mag like max power etc as they have loads of insurance companies in the back that cater solely for young drivers.

As wozza said, adding yourself as a named driver when infact you are the main driver is effectively insurance fraud. I doubt you'd ever get done for fraud, more likely the insurance company would only pay out for the 3rd party in the event of an accident

If its a big claim say you write off yours and osmeone elses car they will investigate it. ask neighbours people at work place. I know someone who lost a brand new Clio 182 because he was a named driver they investigated it refused to pay out when they found out he lied ot insurance company.

Bearing in mind they are all money making organisations, they will do everything in their power to find out whether someone is trying to defraud them.

It doesn't take a genius to work it out and loads of new drivers do it, so they will automatically become suspicious

well if i put ma mum on it as the main driver, and me on as a named driver and then she drives it to the shops every day then really they cannie say it was fraud she drove it every day i drove it every day as well

Depends if the car starts turning up at your work / school etc etc.

Just add yourself as the main driver and put your mum on as a named driver this will lower the premium anyway. If your doing 10,000 miles a year say 8000 they cant really check anyway.

But with you only being 17 basically your just gonna have to bend over and take it. I know some of the other guys who are in there 20's with 1yr ncb are still getting charged £700+ on a 1.4 vtr.

Im 22 1yr ncb and driving a 1.6 vtr+ my quotes are around the £800 mark postcode makes a big difference unfortunately if your in a not so good postcode they can whack large amounts on mine was almost doubled at my old address.

And it might only be a VTR+ but the way the insurance companies see it. Your 17 with a £14,000 car. Its just your age if you had a 10yr old 1.0 litre fiesta it'd still cost you over £1000 to insure 3rd party. Just what happens at 17 im afraid mate why most 17yr olds drive smaller cars.

I wouldn't worry about the ESP, I doubt it'll ever cut in apart from on sheet ice.

I am 24 with zero no claims (as the c4 is a company car) and still manage to insure my Z3M for £760 on a limited mileage policy (5k per annum)

nice! i dont think ill b buyin a Z3M any time soon but thats quality and am guessin uve never bn in scotland then! sheet ice is generally all the roads are between september/october and march/april

Z3M will be cheaper to insure due to the fact limited mileage policy, rare car only typically enthusiasts drive. And you have a fairly good job id imagine so deemed as a responsible person. Plus fact your 24.

17 yr olds are viewed as likely to get into a crash, likely to speed, likely to drive dangerously, and often drive cars that have higher numbers of accidents.

They did a little thing on the cliosport site. See how much it is with your normal details to get insured on a ferrari F430....many of them came back and said its cheaper than there Clio insurance.

"Kit cars" are the best to insure. My factory built Westfield was £400 fully comp. Considering the 0-60 was around 4.5secs and I would deem myself as an irresponsible driver at times, I thought it was very cheap. 25 next month so hopefully the premium will fall even further. I have found that TVRs are reasonable to insure too, on my dads last one I had a quote of £500. I guess I now benefit of being on the right side of 20 for insurance purposes

Keep reading how cheap caterhams etc are to insure. Id love one but odnt have a garage and i dont fancy leaving it out on the drive all year round the seats etc would just end up rotting plus i done know if i would fit in one im a big lad.

best quote i ever got was 21 on a civic type r £10,380 a year.

Caterhams are good but overpriced, you'd be far better off getting a sorted Westfield. There are numerous manufacturers making outdoor covers which are more than adequate to store your car under and a number of people I knew from the Westfield club used them. I was glad to have mine garaged though as they are not the most secure cars, no doors to lock etc, plus you can take the handbrake off and wheel it away like a large wheelbarrow.

Buy one, you'll never find a car which is so much fun to drive

Technically it is kind of on the subject he was asking about cheap insurance thus we mentioned that other more expensive faster cars are often cheaper to insure because they arent written off as much etc.

And seems to be a lot of the C4's are being involved in crashed recently not sure why as most people seem to say its there own fault im guessing something catches them out. I know the rear end can be a bit twitchy.

I also asked him what details he was putting down on his insurance so i could better help him he didnt tell me. Also told him to phone companies as that was better still not many replies until he helps himself and speaks to some people on the phone he will have a hard job getting half decent realistic quotes thus we went off a on a big of a tangent about insurance and other cars and wanting other cars.

This is generally what happens on most forums i have ever been on original topic gets answered or dies and it kind of changes into something else if the original poster or someone with something to add wants to add anything by all means they can i dont care otherwise i dont think us saying about insurance costs on other cars and providing our own information and proving insurance is a bloody con is so bad myself personally.

But if people want me too i can seperate the posts form both these subjects and put them into there own threads.

The danger with Forums are is that you dont know the tone in which the comments are being made :) These are dangerous places for people to get the wrong end of the stick...which is why I put a smiley at the begining of the previous post. :)

The point I was trying to make that the discussion had started to deviate away from Citroen C4 insurance to the finer points price of Westfields, Catherhams and TVR's and could see what happened in the linked post happening, where it went on a tangent to the original post topic - not particulary relevant to the original topic.

Not trying to get anyones back up, not trying to create conflict, not creating a coup or take over bid, I'm not intending to start an argument or fussed about having one.... just mearly stating an observation :D

Take aim and fire at will if you wish.... :D

Its alright dont bother me mate :D

Just think the same happens on most online forums the topic either dies and thats it or it gets altered to something else along the way.
