Ciaran2903 Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 As alot of you probably already know, i wrote off my previous C4, but the insurance company gave us enough money to buy another one. I was just wondering if there was anything that i should look out for, maybe to hit the dealer with?? :P It still has a warranty and therefore i guess it will be hard to knock the dealer down on issues. It is from a non-citroen dealer so could that play into my hands?? Basically, i am asking for tips to knock the price down!! :( Thanks Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted August 24, 2006 Author Posted August 24, 2006 oh..it is a black 1.4 VTR on a "O5" with 10,000 miles on it.It is priced at around £7950 Quote
wozza Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Seems a bit expensive ot be honest mate there only a little more new RRP price and with them being a citroen you get a decent discount new wouldnt surprised me if you could get one new for a little more. If your going for a preowned vehicle though why not go private and skip the dealer you will save money and the car is still covered under warranty and you have a bit more bargaining room. [edit]Upon further checking my sums are a little out it seems lol. Over £12k list for a new one lol. Or £10k on jamjar.com with a 10k mile car on an 05 still seems expensive to me though. The 1.6's are also worth a look as there only 1 or 2 groups insurance wise higher. Quote
C4VTRhdi Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Hi Ciaran I bought my C4 last week and I managed to get £500 off the asking price and got 6months tax thrown in and that was from a main dealer. Im on my seventh car now and have managed to get substantial amounts off most of the cars ive bought. The key is to show you are very interested in the car and would like to buy that day. Take it for a test drive first without agreeing anything, take your time dont rush into it, make them work for your buisness. Say you have cash to pay for the car but can only afford a certain amount. If the car is up for £8000 say you can only really afford £7500 and maybe go to £7700 as a last resort but make him work to get you up to this point. The longer your in the showroom the more he will want to sell you the car. If he wants more keep him in suspense and you should get the deal you want. Remember you hold all the aces.Always keep in mind if you walk away he has lost a sale. Its also prime time end of the month so you should secure some kind of money off. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted August 24, 2006 Author Posted August 24, 2006 Thanks guys, if i ever need help about any car facts, let alone a C4, i have found this forum AMAZING!! :D Quote
C4VTS Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 If it is a large dealer, the sales staff will have targets to meet at the end of the month, and as we are near the end of the month I am sure you could get something off the price or get something extra thrown in for free like a TomTom for example. :D Yes, make sure you sound very interested, but also try and haggle. :D Quote
Welshguy Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 If your only going for the 1.4..take it on a test drive and in 3rd / 4th gear give it some and then lift out...listen for any knocking sounds - this is the problem mine suffers from and its dead annoying - try and get a C4 without this problem and everything else is minor! Mat Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Make sure the windscreen is original Citroen. I had mine replaced when a stone cracked it. The replacement had to be done by Autoglass for my insurance to pay. The windscreen is not a Citroen part, and when driving you can see imperfections in it, ie kerbs bend, other cars have sillouettes (no, i havent been drrinking, but its exactly the same doublevision effect). Its really getting on my nerves. Quote
hertsnminds Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 As it is a non Citroen dealer they will not be able to check the Citroen database to see what warranty/recall work has been carried out and as you never get a hard copy when this type of work is done I would get them to find out for you. Brand new C4 coupe 1.4 VTR spec are £9,799http://www.newcitroendeals.co.uk/citroen_c4.html They also offer a 0% finance deal over 2 years if you have a 35% deposit (only on some cars). C4VTRhdi Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Also when I went into a citroen dealer when I was looking at new cars she actually said forget the 35% and I could have 0% over 4 years so if anyones after a new one dont be put off by the big deposit or the 2 years. Seems like Citroen are trying to give them away. Quote
