wozza Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Well not had my car really since thursday as it went in very early friday morning to the bodyshop to have the repairs done. As a result i have been driving a Chevrolet Tacuma 2.0 auto for the last few days my god is that a ***oops*** car! Same bodyshop as i used before and you know its always a good site when you turn up to a bodyshop and there repairing a £100k Merc AMG SL 55 (didnt know they were that much!) And sat next to that is white impreza looks nice on the outside big wheels huge breaks then look into the cabin full roll cage proper rally flocked dash type thing full adustment of diffs etc from the dash can be done as well as suspension and engine mapping all at flick of a switch or knob lol. Spoke to some of the guys about it total cost to built said impreza....£300,000 so far. Anyways guys did a great job on the repairs fro what i have seen had xenon torch on it and had a look under garage light literally only just got back a short while ago was supposed to be done for 8 tonight but when i got there they were still polishing the car up and fitting some of the extra bits i asked to get done. Now have colour coded sidestrips and had my A and B pillar trims done to match the spoiler and windscreen surround....and im loving the result yes i know its only what VTS owners have and only small changes but i like it. Will post some pics in the light tomorrow but so happy to have my own car back how the hell do peopel drive MPV's? I couldnt put up with the handling after an hour it drove me nuts all weekend understeer crazy and everytime i went round a slightly sharpe bend above 20 i felt like i was gonna be on the side any second. Not a nice car to drive. Quote
C4VTRhdi Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 wozza look forward to seeing it Saturday. Quote
wozza Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 Went and had a look today in the light looks great. cant tell i ever had any big dents scratches anywhere looks really good. And the side rub strips make the car seem very different when you look at it such a small thing makes a big difference its strange. Quote
wozza Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 Will get some up later forums obsessed with pics :-P Quote
Stuey Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 its gonna be a good sight on Saturday, I think we have 7 confirmed and most in different colours from oriental blue to scott yellow...Wozza you need to find somewhere nice to go after we have had a bite to eat... Quote

Mike5483 Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Any pics yet??? Can I request a pic of your boot install please!!! Quote
wozza Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 No pics of the car yet will get some taken tomorrow hopefully with everyone elses cars. And boot install is fairly simple as a result doesnt take up too much room. Alpine amp is running my front components and the Lanzar is running the Sub. http://mybigspoon.com/wozza/install1.JPGhttp://mybigspoon.com/wozza/install2.JPG Quote
Mike5483 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 How did you connect the amp output cables to the door speakers??? Did you intercept the wiring behind the dash or run new cables??? Quote
wozza Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 Ran new cables due to the new crossovers being behind the dash was easier to run new ones. Quote
Mike5483 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Did you manage to run them through the rubber conduits from the car to the door??? Was it fairly easy??? Quote
wozza Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 Yeah there through the rubber conduits not sure how easy it was i didnt do it. Should not be too difficult just a bit fiddly. Quote
Mike5483 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 No, thats fine. If someone else can get them through there, so can I!!! Ill just borrow the cable pulling wire we got at work. Should make short work of it. Quote
wozza Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 If not you can always cut the exsisting speaker wires should not be too difficult i left mine all hooked up though so its an easy swap back when i come to sell the car no way im leaving the speakers in it when its only a 30 minute job to swap them over. Quote
Mike5483 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Yeah, i dont want to cut them for that reason. Quote
wozza Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 Would suggest some sound deadening if you plan to do it properly on the doors as well as they will get a bit more rattly due to higher powered speakers putting out a bit more oomph. What i plan to do next to my boot and doors to try get it sounding a little nicer. Quote
Mike5483 Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Ive already got Dynamat Extreme on the door panels because of rattling. TBH, It hasnt made a mega amount of difference. A few more layers may help. I think its due to the physical size of them. They are very long and made up of many different pits if you look at them and dont ave that much support in the middle. Its not a brilliant design!!! Quote
wozza Posted September 10, 2006 Author Posted September 10, 2006 Theres also better on stuff thats cheaper than dynamat. And you do normally need a good 2 or 3 layers to make a big difference and you have to cover everything especially around and inside the speaker pod that should eliminate a lot more rattling. Quote
Mike5483 Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 My door panels aren't really that bad. I just hate rattles etc. The drivers door is the worst one though. It seems to 'creak' when the car is moving. Quote
wozza Posted September 10, 2006 Author Posted September 10, 2006 I heard lee's car yesterday he has the JBL upgrade and he was saying when it gets cranked up the rattles are bad but i have never had bad rattles and the sub in mine usually makes them even more noticeable. Theres a couple i have not got rid of yet but only my drivers seatbelt rattles now and the tailgate everything else is fine. Quote
Mike5483 Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I have a rattle in the seatbelt. I looked at it today. The only thing I could find was the actual part that bolts to the B pillar, where the seatbelt comes up and over is very loose. Its bolted tight, but moves a great deal and it taps on the metal of the B pillar. I put two small strips of dynamat behind it, one each side. Its cured the rattle, but unfortunately, I broke a clip off of the baige trim where the seatbelt comes out. Its a bit loose now, so be careful when you take it off. Also, i hate a rattle in the roof lining. That turned out to be a pipe (I think possibly for the rear washer jet) slapping against the roof lining. I just packed it out with thin strips of foam. You have to take the sunglasses holder and rear handle off and drop the lining slightly to get to this pipe. Quote
wozza Posted September 19, 2006 Author Posted September 19, 2006 Ok going to bump this back up rather than make a new topic since people wanted to see pictures of the sidestrips and A B pillar trims done. Unfortunately pictures were taken with camera phone and car was rather dirty so not the best images but ah well. http://mybigspoon.com/wozza/front.JPG http://mybigspoon.com/wozza/side.JPG Quote
wozza Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 Does look so much better with the strips and pillars done. And for anyone that wants to see how bad the scratch was before hand. Doesnt show it fully though as the dent in the rear carried on a fair bit http://mybigspoon.com/wozza/scratch.JPG Quote
