willie229 Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 When I first bought my Pluriel 1.4HDI I was far from impressed with the performance. It was sluggish on the hills and the MPG was low. Around 40 to 45mpg. Then I came across Extralube ZX1 at halfords. It's a micro oil metal treatment, friction eliminator and can be added to the oil, water and fuel and lasts about 100,000 miles. It is unlike the old Slick 50 in that it doesn't layer and bonds to metal only, so rubbers and seals are safe. More than I can say for the front tyres. I now get around 55 to 60mpg and the car really moves. Usually add to fuel every 6 months, just to keep it nice. Check it out and prepare to be impressed. No I don't work for Extralube, but believe it's a great product and if it saves fuel, it's good for the old environment. Happy driving Quote
Igloo_Vindaloo Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Good to hear you're getting better performance and economy now. But was the engine fully run in before you added the ZX1? I would expect the performance and economy to improve during the first few thousand miles. Cheers Tim Quote
hertsnminds Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I used ZX1 on a Fiat barchetta I used to own, it was great for avoiding the sticky variator issue that plauged the engine Fiat used in the barchetta, punto and Alfa 156. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
lupin Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I've been a fan of ZX1 for about 5 or 6 years now. I'm not sure that I've seen any hugely dramatic increase in performance with it, but it is known to be a effective anti-wear additive and is used a lot by the racing fraternity. It's worth noting that it mustn't be added to a new engine until after it is thoroughly run-in, otherwise it will prevent metal surfaces from "bedding in" properly - and you may actually end up with poorer performance! willie229 Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006  Yes the engine had been fully run in and was running better. but the ZX1 really changed the car. Then again I did treat everything with the stuff. Will have to see how long it lasts, as I will have the super little car for a while. Then again the roads in Northern Ireland are not as congested as they are in the mainland, especial;ly the home counties. Thanks for the feed back though.RegardsWill Quote
