I have just received the very latest 'which? car' magazine.

The Citroen C4 appears for the first time.

"Troublespots 2004-2006 Handles/locks

The C4 is refined, fun, and easy to drive. safety is reasonable, but Citroens long term reliability needs to improve if we're to recommend it. Score 68% "

Sample rate was 34 owners.

Which? claim that the Ford Focus has no troublespots.

what a load of twaddle which? talk i've had Citroens for 15 years with minimal trouble i've had one ford in that time, that was a nightmare for parts and :o expensive, there are so many myths created about cars to the point i think the person writing the article has shares in Ford.

sample size of 34 not really big enough to gain any decent inference and statistics can be manipulted to suit the outcome the writer is looking for.

I wonder if the focus sample size is 1.

I remember looking at cars 15 years ago I was 19 and went round all the dealers, the Ford salesman was only interested in the tale about an xr3i being written off I was insignificant in his eyes, the Citroen guys however let me take a car for a test drive on my own and were really helpful hence although i've had a couple of non citroens since there has always been one in the family since the 1st one.

Every car has its faults, got a friend with a 3 year old mini thats been in and out of the dealers since day.

I think you always need to be careful of reading too much in to these articles.

Any car has its issues and I could honestly say that my previous car (Ford Focus) certainly did not meet the "high reliablitly - great car image" manipulated by the press. That car was more fragile than my first car which was a 15 year old 130,000mile Austin Mini.

34 owners is hardly a representative sample of the total number of vehicles that are sold in the UK.

And to be honest...if the only fault they could find is a sticky lock its nothing that a squirt of WD40 couldnt sort out, if it hasnt already been sorted out. Its not exactly going to go BANG! and need you to pull in to the hard shoulder making you wonder how much the bang has cost you....

I never look at these reviews because there stupidly biased.

BMW's always come out top same as mercedes etc yet everyone knows the problem mercedes have with build quality now. Not the same cars they were 10+ years ago.

Plus the C4 is the safest car in the class so shouldnt safety have got a higher rating than..reasonable id like to see what they gave the focus in that section since the C4 scored higher points in the ncap tests.

I subscribed to Which for many years and always consulted it before buying anything, often buying there recommendations that usually turned out to be a load c**p.

I think they sometimes got their tables a**e about face, I stopped subscribing about four years ago.

My brothers courtesy car New Ford Focus was crap in the snow and couldn't even get up hills. My C3 did though

Didn't the C4 get the second highest ncap score ever?!? :o After the C6!?!

Yeah, i always look at all the reviews of the C4 and to be honest, i end up getting pissed off. It is all bollocks!

Looks, anyone here know of a better looking car than a C4 for the same money?

Safety, sadly i know based on first hand experience that the C4 is one hell of a safe car, resonable is the biggest under-statement of the year!

I get a kick out of the questions asked about it, the attention it draws everything! :D

No. :)

Nothing else looks as good as a C4 Coupé, in the same price range,

and in my opinion nothing feels as good to drive as good as a C4 either. :o :D :D

The vauxhall sports hatch is fairly close i think. That was the only other car i really looked at properly when getting mine.

However against the VTS theres quite a lot of performance hatches that are better drivers and have stronger engines. you can pick up a megane 225 for around £14k now the normal one is a bit ugly and i hate the rear but the 225 is actually quite nice.

But still i love my C4 and it does get a fair bit of attention. Like the fact i just got home and the TT driver next to me at the lights was having a good look over it.

I looked at getting the Megane 225 although the prices were tempting the insurance quotes were not. I dont want to go reiterate "the I got a quote at x£" again, but can assure you it was substantially more than the VTS, but then you would expect that as it is obviously more powerful.

Besides which there is something about Renaults that just dont look "finished".

Focus ST just looked boring and was an instant No.

Car per £ I dont think you cant beat the C4 VTS in terms of looks, equipment and performance.

dont forget that these cars have turbos

Yup i know shame they didnt do a 2 litre turbo VTS. But the 1.6 turbo may be quite good should be quicker than the curent one if its get similar power due to the weight saving. But i still think they shoudl make a more crazy V6 C4 im betting a few people would buy it.
