Nightstalker Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Hi all, Just found this forum as I'm thinking of buying a fully loaded and chipped C4 Coupe VTS HDi. What real world fuel consumption should I expect and are there any things I should look for? Regards Ian (Nightstalker) Quote
wozza Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 The newer cars should not suffer form the same teething issues we had. But there are a number of rattles that are usually there main one is passenger door rattle but its a common problem. Not sure if this is also fixed in newer ones to be honest though there isnt any serious issues as with all new cars sometimes you get rattles sometimes you dont. And you wont have to go through the recalls now getting a new one. However it may be worth looking at a 2nd hand one as there going for very little money now. Other than that depends how you drive the car you can get 50+mpg or you can get into the 20's Chipped should see an improvement in MPG over the stock ones and it should be bloody quick as well. Quote
Nightstalker Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 The chip adds 40bhp I'm told - so with 178bhp and globs of torque should be bloody quick - test driving tomorrow. Quote
wozza Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 You getting it chipped or remapped? Chipped means an actual physical new chip will be added a remap alters no hardware just software change can be catered to what you want from your car driving style and will be custom to your engine so will always give better results than an off the shelf chip. Mobile remaps from a few companies are less than £300 now from some of the reputatble ones on these cars and they will come to your home load a map on it to begin with then basically play with it till they get it right while driving it. Nightstalker Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 The car's been chipped by the main dealer and it doesn't invaliate warranty. Apparently sourced from a specialist company in Holland that has a relationship to Citroen racing so I'm told. Quote
wozza Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 ...Odd why the hell cant we get that here!? Quote
Nightstalker Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 I'm UK based - unless my dealer is feeding me a line they bought the chip (which is Citroen approved), and fitted it themselves. I'll see if I can get some details from them tomorrow. Quote
wozza Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Sounds a bit iffy to me heard of dealers doing this we fitted a chip to it crap before and there was nothing different about the car. As far as im aware there is no chip available that wont invalidate the warranty however remapping is pretty much undetectable just a case of unplugging the battery after its been done and you cant tell its ever been mapped unless you compare it side by side with the original one which no one is going to do. Nightstalker Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 I'll report back tomorow having approached the dealer with skeptisim in my heart. Quote
wozza Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Give us details as if there is an "official" chip im sure there will be a fair few of us wanting our cars done. But i just dont see it happening. Quote
C4VTS Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 As far as I know, there is no chipped solution for the 2.0 HDi with Siemens ECU. Quote
sammys hdi vts Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I'm am obviously interested in hearing the outcome of this one, considering my lack of progress on remapping my ecu! (still going to wait till march for my 25th bday as the remap would have added nearly £350 to the insurance premium, ouch!) Quote
Nightstalker Posted September 24, 2006 Author Posted September 24, 2006 Sorry for not getting back to you all on this - the test drive was cancelled as the demo car I was looking at was actually leased from Citroen and was therefore not available for sale. I spoke with the dealer about the chip and they confirmed verbally that they can dealer supply and fit the chip which gives c. 40bhp increase. As it's dealer fit warranty is unaffected. Cost is c. £400 iirc. The dealer is Barclays Citroen (Warrington) and they can be contacted on 01925 819401. I spoke with Ian from sales and he is happy to field any enquiries. I mentioned that I had posted to a forum and that there had been quite a lot of interest. If any of you follow up on this I'd like to find out what comes of it. Quote
wozza Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Guessing this is for the 138hp diesel only? What about those with the 1.6? is it available anywhere else and do they offer an alternative on petrol engines? Quote
lee_marshuk Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Hmm....*looks at Wozza*....what do you reckon? Quote
wozza Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Think you know what my view on the subject is mate...GET IT DONE! I mean you have every other single option ticked why not this one? I mean it looks like your missing one Lee!! And we cant have that now can we? Quote
sammys hdi vts Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Anyone phoned the dealer yet? Im interested to know if it is a chip or a remap! BUt hell if its dealer authorised and they want to warranty the upgrade then I had better start raiding the piggy bank! Quote
C4VTRhdi Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 What about the 1.6 diesel, id be very interested. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 What about the 1.6 diesel, id be very interested. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 When it goes in for a service, just take it off! Quote
lee_marshuk Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 waaaaa.....you mean there's an option I haven't had? Where *looks around* *panics* Quote
wozza Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Better get it fixed mate! And get it mapped 178bhp with all that extra torque could be quite fun. Although with the way you drive probably wont be much better on fuel than the petrol one. :-P Quote
lee_marshuk Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 bah but I bet I'll still get better than your fuel economy boyo!! What was yours.....20 miles to the gallon, or wait was it 20 gallons to the mile..... Quote
wozza Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Currently due to lots of city driving and me being let loose on some nice country roads its sitting at...28mpg Quote
lee_marshuk Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 mine's averaging at 38.5 at the moment... Quote
