larnsky Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I have a citroen C4 SX 1.6HDi, with the standard CD player. I was going to change the headunit as i'd done in previous cars i'd owned to one that plays MP3's. However due to some of the diagnostic tools being on the radio head unit itself i thought i might go down a different route. I have a TomTom 910 with has 12GB of space for MP3's, i'm under the impression that you can connect this to a raido with a 3.5mm audio jack, similar to what you'd connect an ipod with. I've asked my citroen dealer about connecting an auxilary input to the radio and they didn't have a clue what i was talking about, they emailed France, but i've heard nothing since. So my question is this:Is it possible to connect 3.5mm jack to the back of the standard radio? If yes, do i need to purchase anything in advance of doing this?Do the garage need to do anything, i read something about them needing to activate the aux input.Has anyone got any tips on performing this procedure? Thanks in advance. Quote
Mike5483 Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Yes it is possible to connect to an aux input. You need to buy part number 9706AG either from Citroen of Peugoet (whichever dealer is more convenient). If you dont have a cd changer, then just connect up as stated in the instructions and get Aux Port 1 enabled. If you do have a changer fitted, then you need to connect up the lead differently. The connections are as follows 11 - Black10 - Red4 - White You then have to have Aux 2 enabled. The cable is abput £20 and the configuring can be anywhere from free to about £35 depending on the dealership. Hope that helps. Quote
C4VTS Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Hello and welcome to the forum. What you need is a 9706AG cable which Citroen/Peugeot dealers supply. The cable comes in two sections. The first terminates in a 3.5mm socket, which allows you to plug the supplied 3.5mm extension cable which has a 3.5mm plug at both ends. If you search the forum this cable has been mentioned many times. You also need to get the extra AUX input enabled on your radio by a Citroen dealer, or if they are fitting the cable, they will do this anyway. Expect to pay between £60 to £90 to get it fully installed. Quote
wozza Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Makes me thankful i got the VTR+ at tims looking at different specs just some of the things missing that would cost pennies for them to install but they didnt such as the menu mode esc buttons etc we have all that on the steering wheel it could only cost a few pence to chuck the bits of plastic on there and enable them. larnsky Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 Thank you for the responses.... much apprectiated. I will contact my local dealer about getting hold of one of these cables tomorrow. Is it a complicated process installing the cable myself? I don't have a CD Changer. I've changed the stereo in all of my previous cars, i'm just concerned about all the car diagnosis ones on this one if i go pulling the stereo out. Equally though i would like to save myself £60 doing it myself. Thanks again! Quote
larnsky Posted September 15, 2006 Author Posted September 15, 2006 Well i've purchsed the cable from my local peugeot dealer as they had it in stock. I don't have the CD changer I just have the standard CD player on the SX model. Looking at the instructions (that are in French) do i need to install the cable and then take it to a citroen garage to enable the port? Peugeot didn't seem to think they'd be able to activate it with their PC, and the people i spoke to at citroen didn't even know what the cable was. Quote

They may charge about £35 to enable the Aux port. Citroen dealer can do this, but some think it cannot be done and have never heard of this Aux cable. http://aycu32.webshots.com/image/391/2002879991762862552_rs.jpg http://aycu40.webshots.com/image/1799/2002874504902553235_rs.jpg Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I think on the "SX" the screen will not look like that. On my "VTR" the screen is different and just says "input 1" and displays the date, time, temp etc etc Quote
C4VTS Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 On the VTS there are about 3 different modes of what you want on the display, as well as the 3 different trip computer displays. I can just have date, time, etc if i wish. I just wanted to show the Input 1 thing really, so you know that it is enabled. :P Quote
wozza Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 VTR+ has the same screen. Mine now only has 2 modes since taking stock stereo out but i still have full functionality of what i need. Quote
larnsky Posted September 16, 2006 Author Posted September 16, 2006 Yeah the screen on my radio is not quite as fancy as that. I guess i will just install the cable and then take it to the garage with the instruction and try and get them to do it. Thanks for the responses Quote
captainsensible Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 If I have read this thread correctly, would I be right in thinking that if I have the Bluetooth Head Unit and a CD changer, then aux port 1 is already in use? I am looking at various ways to connect my ipod to the head unit and am guessing that this is probably the only way I would be able to do it. I have ruled out the FM transmitter methid in the long term as its too unreliable. Ideally I would like to be able to control the ipod from the HU but I believe that the systems that enable that are connected to the cd changer control of the HU - at least, thats how the Dension Icelink I had in my old car connected to my Sony HU. In fact most of the places that sell the Icelink don't mention the C4 specifically - if anyone knows different I would appreciate it! Quote
