oreh Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Hi all,After having lots of problems with Renault (Rubbish) (Rubbish) (Rubbish) meganeII lately, I’ve decided to switch to citroen c4 coupe as my local dealer has pretty friendly offers at the moment. So I would like to ask people who owns c4 – what are the most common „weak points” for the particular model. PS: I’ve browsed through the forum and didn’t find any similar topic, so pls don’t be mad in case I'm doubleposting same question :P Quote
Mike5483 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Weak points... Some cars have squealy rear brakes (when in reverse)Some cars have rear suspension 'clonking' issuesDoor panels can rattleSome models suffer from the occasional engine mount going Thats about all I can think of. As you can see, not that bad in terms of severity. I must admit I have heard so many Renault (Rubbish) horror stories, I dont think I'd buy one. Quote
Mat Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 A couple of us have had windscreens cracks (although mine was more likely to have been a stone) Quote
Rich_Eason Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 For the volume of cars produced and the C4's relitivly new inclusion into the market place, these are issues can be expected and have only come to light through the experiences of the owners on this forum. I believe all have some form of dealer fix /work-round or recall. You would be very inlucky if you encountered multiples of the items listed. As Mike mentioned, severity is low. I came from to buy Citroen from Ford as I "thought" Ford was OK reliabilty. How wrong I was. I beleive Citroen are working their socks off to try and rid the poor reliability image that they have with producing great cars such as C4 et al. They just need to change their pricing schemes to slow down depretiation. I'd say go for it, my dealer experiences have certainly been miles better than that experienced with any other brand, but then that depends on location. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 i did hear that wozza's car had a loose nut behind the wheel! :P  i dont think that car be sorted under warranty though  Quote
Stuey Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 i did hear that wozza's car had a loose nut behind the wheel! :P  i dont think that car be sorted under warranty though B) smooth man, real smooth  Quote
powza Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I've had my C4 for about 6 weeks now and my first impressions are very favourable. This was my first ever citroen, and I was a little wary of the reputation for problems but so far mine has been great - no squeaks, no rattles, and nothing has broken down or fallen off! It drives well and looks good. My previous car was a Megane and I didn't have any real problems with that either, so perhaps I'm just lucky! (Hope I'm not tempting fate with that comment) I'd say go ahead if you've got a good deal. Quote
C4VTS Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 So I would like to ask people who owns c4 – what are the most common „weak points” for the particular model. The Driver :P Some early cars had problems with door handles sticking. WD40 fixes that! Heater box issue causes aircon to blow hot air on drivers side. Replacement fixes. Vibration in the steering. Possible wheel balancing issue? Apart from that, nothing major, and it's very unlikely you will get all these problems. Quote
wozza Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 i did hear that wozza's car had a loose nut behind the wheel! :P  I dont think that car be sorted under warranty though :D I thought I was loved on here  B) :) But with relation to the cars and not whos behind the wheel. There pretty reliable in all fairness and dont let the thought of other cheaper built citroens put you off the C4 is much much nicer to be inside than the other cars in the range. No really cheap nasty plastics unless you go for the very bottom of the range cars. Best thing is to go ask for a test drive and see how you find it and play with one in the dealership. Quote
incubus Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Had a new Air Scuttle fitted today as the old 1 slipped below the bottom of the Winscreen..(Rubber). Fitted in 20 mins and no hassle.. :P ... Thought i'd mention it for ref:...Could of been broken when i had a replacement Airbox as previously mentioned..(Aircon blowing Hot) ... No Biggie...... ... Quote
barnyg Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I too had a Megone and in 8 months was back to dealer 6 times. Had my VTR+ 2.0 since April & apart from rusty struts on hatch had no problems. Now 5,500 miles & loosening up nicely. Quote

oreh Posted September 15, 2006 Author Posted September 15, 2006 tnx for replies guys... With megane I had some minor issues:Sticking door handles Starter changedwindscreen crack (most probable because of some stone)Window Sweeper kit changed.. But now an epic ignition/engine problem got me too: (http://www.meganeownersclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1724&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=60) ... and I'm starting to get tired with it. Dealer cant find a reason during past 1.5 months... Last time dealer tested it for 2 days didn't get any errors or engine misfires... handed a car to me... I've driven 20km and again "service" "Toxic Fumes" and "check injection" shines on me :P combined with a drastic power loss. I'm having 2003year megane ... and ppl say that later productions isnt so problematic. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 My c4 is a 54 plate which I have had from new and covered 45,000miles in. It has now been back to the dealer 14 times and some of the original problems are still unresolved! Unfortunately none are as minor as sticking door handles, as I can live with niggles. Quote
C4VTS Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I would say that Z3M Roadster seems to have encountered every fault on this planet, and is not the C4 experience of other members on here. :P These are all just niggles, and are not stopping you from driving the C4  Never seen a C4 broken down on motorway, but have seen plenty of Audi, BMW and Mercs on the hard shoulder, which is why I was glad to get rid of my Audi A4  Quote
Safety Engineer Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 To put it into perspective, the current (new Astra) has more recall/dealer fix faults than the C4 and that car has components from existing Vauxhall cars. Having had 2 (Astras) die on me on the space of three months (fortunately lease cars) I would recommend the C4 any day. Mines got 12,800 on the clock since March this year with the following hiccups - recall for airbag adjustment, recall for EGR valve and a fuel tank replaced under warrenty. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 Perhaps as mine has driven over the average mileage that I am experiencing all these problems. Will be interested to see what happens to other peoples cars when they reach the same mileage. Quote
Stuey Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 its not a bad record really all things considered. most of the stuff on the C4 is from other PSA models so is proven to work. Most of the niggly stuff is to do with how it is screwed together mostly rattly doors etc. I have driven a lot more expensive cars that arent as good as the C4... Quote
Mike5483 Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 Perhaps as mine has driven over the average mileage that I am experiencing all these problems. Will be interested to see what happens to other peoples cars when they reach the same mileage. How many miles has your got on it. Mine is an April 05 car and has 24600 Miles on it. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 Got mine in Feb 05 and it has 45K on now Quote
Joeblunt Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 Mine is Dec 04 on a 54 plate = 25k Quote
rcandelori Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I've had a few minor niggles, but the car has been very reliable. Problems fixed since June 2005: -Limp revision mirror in extreme heat.-Front arm rest with a mind of its own - sliding forward every time I break.-CD stacker skipping when touching the front arm rest-Rattling windows-Oil leak-Airbag recall-loose screw rattling in the boot trim Problems that dealers claim they can't reproduce: -Radio periodically forgets stations -i.e. turn car off, then turn it back on and the RDS displays the correct station but actual frequency is incorrect.-Door trim rattles when driving on course bitumen (conveniently, the surrounding roads of the dealership have smooth roads) Otherwise, everything else has been formidable. I was a tad nervous when I first bought the car given Citroen's past reputation for reliability, but the C4 really has been a good car and the minor rattles here and there are nothing in the grand scheme of things. Turn the fabulous radio up and everything is fine. Quote
Stuey Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Citroen really did have a bad rep for reliability...but that does seem to have gone away with the C4. most of the issues with the car have been with trim rather than engine. they must be good as the new Jaguar's have PSA engines in them. The only thing that would put me off buying another is the depreciation...buying second hand is clearly the way to go, I have the "new car syndrome" out of my system now so I think I will be able to buy a used car now :o Quote
wozza Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Focus also has PSA engines in them. And the new Mini Cooper S will although partly designed by BMW as well. Door trim rattling is a known issue the dealer should have been able to sort lots of us had that issue was easily sorted mine doesnt really rattle even when the musics up loud and if that doesnt cause rattles nothing will. Only rattle im getting currently is from the tailgate but i got rid of most of those by padding out the plastic trim a little more myself. Quote
