gtech Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Hi, I am about to fit a Bluetooth Car Kit for a friend, the only connections needed are the usual Power, Earth and Radio Mute. Does the standard C4 have an existing MUTE wire on the back of the radio ??? if not, does anyone know the wire I need to join into. Many thanks G Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 I presume it has one as I have a nokia handsfree kit which mutes the stereo when I press a button on the phone and when the phone rings. Quote
Mat Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 c4s dont have them. How does the mute button on the steering console work then? (Or am i getting the wrong end of this stick?) Quote

Mike5483 Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Id be willing to bet its the White/yellow cable, next to the Earth on the stereo power connector. My car has had something connected to this and the earth cable, as there is black tape covering a section of removed insulation on each cable. However, i just tested this cable and could find no difference when the stereo is muted or not. My car was owned by a Citroen UK Sales Exec and has no built in bluetooth, so Im thinking this was possibly for a phone kit. Quote
Mike5483 Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 This might be helpful... http://www.citdoks.de/Bilder/378/rd4.jpg Says mute is pin 14, wherever that is. Quote
iannez Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 the radios in c4s are multiplexed and the mute wire is most probs the signal wire from the mute button on steering wheel and not a normal mute wire like most head units. every phone kit i've fitted to c4s i have had to put another ctrl box that works with the phone kit between the head unit and the speakers. all it does is switch between phone kit and head unit when phone is in use. it does not mute the set it just disconnects the speakers from it and connects them to the phone kit and this is how yours must work. Mike5483 Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Can't you make it a bit bigger? Sorry, its just a direct link from a website. Quote

Ciaran2903 Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 When the phone is in use the stereo says "silence" That is what it says when you press the mute button on the wheel, so surely there must be a connection!?! Quote
iannez Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 is it not a bluetooth head unit. and just a phone cradle you have Quote
iannez Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 i will have a look tomorrow to double check. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 This is what I have...a professional install Nokia carkit with additional bluetooth wheel thing. I have since broken this phone and had a different cradle fitted for my new phone. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c298/alexlomas/C4/DSC00065.jpg Quote
iannez Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 checked today and no mute shown on diagram. fit one this morning parrot model. could be a way of doing it because as you said yours shows silence when the phone is in use. the parrot one didnt. you have the same kit as what i have in my picasso and i have to turn off the radio.
