Thanks for the feedback, and now for the voting. I'd forgotten about white vans. A driver of one of these once threw a half eaten pizza on to my windscreen at a set of lights! My screen wash couldn't cope with the pepperoni and sweetcorn!

We should have one for people who drive with there fogs on and not there headlights....that pisses me off more than anything.

But im gonna vote, White Vans

If its a classic convertable then there is every point. :o

Like any feature on a car if you can use it you use it, not for the sake of having it and not being able to use it!

You dont have a Stereo just because it looks alright stuck in the dash and not use it....same as having a roof that comes off...you use it!

Each to their ow...If you enjoy freezing your buns off and being soaked floats your boat... then enjoy it!

Bobble hats have never been fashion items and 9 times out of 10 they look stoopid on anyone so thats why they look like idiots when its 2 deg c outside .... :P

I am one of those saddos, infact have never driven my other car with the roof up. Heater gets incredibly hot and has heated seats so is perfectly comfortable whatever the temperature, however my girlfriend does not agree!

Thats fine but when its a guy in an Audi TT top down, in middle of december in scotland at 11 at night. I honestly dont see the point. Its just trying to show off. And yeah convertibles are good but in the freezing cold....screw that! I was in my car with the heating all the way up.

Do you mean Mini or MINI???

<_< silly me must be MINI

latest experience queued up in roadworks MINI Cooper S decides he doesnt want to wait so goes down the wrong side of the road to the junction to turn right comes face with an Astra who is shaken and he tries to blame her. Then decides hes changing his mind and turns left infront of the queue that had been waiting patiently.

anyone who doesn't use indicators (esp. at roundabouts);

anyone who drives with fog lights on when not appropriate (esp. in rain);

anyone showing blue lights except emergency vehicles;

anyone who can't be bothered clearing snow from their windows except for about 1 square foot before setting off;

Anyone who can't drive in snow or appears to have no clue about Newton's Laws of Motion.

anyone who runs out of fuel and causes traffic jam chaos;

anyone who doesn't use their hand brake but sits blinding me with their foot on the brake pedal then rolls back towards me if on an incline;

anyone who drives a brand new expensive convertable with the top up when it's fantastic sunny weather;

anyone who slows to < 5mph below the speed limit when there's a speed camera;

anyone who doesn't drive to the speed limit when it is safe to do so;

anyone using their mobile phone unless in total stationary long term traffic jam (esp. in stop start traffic if they are behind me);

anyone drinking a mug of tea at the wheel while driving;

anyone who doesn't acknowledge you when you do them a favour like let them out;

anyone who queues blocking up obvious roads or across junctions esp. yellow hash boxes when there is nothing to be gained by them but it stops other people moving;

Oh I think that's about it--- stressful day!

I agree that it is not the car, it is the driver!

I was at traffic lights just now, red ones :P and when the lights went green i accelerated up to the limit and some mop head decided he was going to "run the red" and cut me up at a four-way junction! :o Thanks alot arse-hole! :angry: It was a Vauxhall Zafira, not exactly a car you would expect to run a red at a four-way junction and fly across about 5 feet away!!! :angry: <_<

and when the lights went green i accelerated up to the limit :angry:

Why...? <_<

Why would you want to accelerate all the way up to the limiter? Does that not make you just as mop head as well?:angry: :o He probably thought you were trying to race him or something....so being a mop head put his foot down

To the SPEED limit! as i have said, i dont like breaking the speed limit. <_<

He could not see me i was going North (as it were) and he came from the west (as it were), at a four way junction, he ran the red! Idiot!!!

Sorry to be pedantic <_<

The limit is not a goal to achieve, it is the maximum permitted speed on that stretch of road. if the signs say e.g. 50 that doesnt mean you must drive at 50.

Depending on the road conditions and surrounding circumstances e.g junction,corner, ice cream van et al, you should adjust your speed acordingly.

Perhaps if you slowed your driving pace down you may not have been enraged to have to had stopped so hard? Afterall you have identified that you knew he couldnt/wouldnt see you so automatically this hould make you cautious....:angry: If he did run the light then that is unfortunate, however these things happen.

Speed limits are not set to compete to see how quick we can get to the limit.

Agressive and competitive driving is for the race track, not the road. :angry:

Theres plenty of roads about where the limit is 40 and you could quite easily do 70+ without any danger to anyone. Theres a road right near me all thats near it is fields. 6 lane dual carriageway and its a 30 limit. Its not much different from driving on a motorway yet its a 30 limit.

If your observation skills are good enough and you have good car control speed limits can be ignored to a certain extent. Remember a lot of the speed limits you see on roads were set back when cars could barely get to those speeds and could barely corner at speed. I have seen signs saying slow to 30 round a bend and i have quite easily taken it at 50+ without being anywhere near the limit of the car.

And why go up to the limiter? Well if your driving the car in a fun way it might be because all the power is up near the red line?

Posted

It may not be the damage to anyone that they are trying to prevent what about yourself?

Perhaps they know that people will see the three lanes and open up. I dont know why they have chosen to stick a 30 limit on a 6lane road but they have their reasons. Agree that does seem a bit harsh.

I'd disagree with your second comment I'm affraid Wozza <_< the limits are set because of road condition location and type. You have to remember that reducing speed limits just is a bit more than "because it saves lives" (assumption) it causes other problems such as congestion and traffic light sequencing issues which costs to rectify.....yours and our money. If they set the limit in your eyes artificially low there is more than a possibility there is another reason other than saving yours/my skin.

Taking a car up until it rides off the limiter, in 9 time out of 10 cases has gone out of the power band and your power has peaked.

Besides which this is digressing away from the original topic...I've said my bit!

Drive safe on the limit...or not the choice is yours.

im afraid to say but rich_eason, your wrong! wozza's right to quote from wikipedia 'The speed limits were established based on the performance of a selection of typical British 1960s vehicles, as evaluated by the UK Transport Research Laboratory. It is argued that modern cars and drivers are far more capable than those of four decades ago.' i.e. someone went from manchester to london in an AC Cobra 427 full speed and couldnt be caught, eventually they managed to find the owner and they arranged speed limits due to this and due to the amount of accidents from people doing idiotic speeds

Did i say i hit the limiter??!? :huh: uhhhh......NO!!!

That is not to say i dont, because i do, but on this occasion i didnt! Jeese! :o

Basically what i was saying was that this idiot ran a red and ended up flying across me at speed! (he was at speed, not me, incase you want to pick up on that aswell!! :rolleyes: )

I have said thousands of times i dont like speeding all the time, and my driving pace is relaxed %90 of the time!!!!

I dont think i should have to justify every little damn word i say because someone decides to take it WAY out of context!!

and if i made any spelling mistakes....I DONT CARE!!!!! OK???

*Rant over!*

woooaaah dude, wind your neck in a bit. There was nothing personal in any of the remarks. The topic went onto how out of date the speed limits on roads are today.

70mph on the open motorway was put in place almost 40 years ago when most cars would only just hit 70 and the brakes took about a week to slow them down not a scrath on modern cars...

Hey all :D

I wasnt trying to get all your backs up over this however I'm free to put my point across as much of the rest of you, after all thats the point of the forum! :rolleyes: :)

I'm happy to read/listen to everone elses point of view and make my comments just as the rest of us can. :D

Besides which the Wickpedia quote "argues" the point not "defines" the point, anyways isnt it written by Jo Public? So what makes them the expert ? :D Anyways I'm happy to admit that I may of got my facts wrong but thats my personal point of view.

Ciaran its a forum and pointless getting your hair off, I cant hear you for starters! :D I could wind you up more saying that you obviously DO speed and you are aware of it, being that have you got all defensive about it and got your knickers in a twist over it, but being a sensible and grown up chap I wont. :D

My opinion and views are my views and as much as I respect yours you need to respect mine, and not react not by getting your man boobs in the air :huh:

I'm off to get some chill pills for us all starting with a box for Ciaran and then gonna pick up the toys that have been thrown about..... :o

Peace out yall...thank god its friday.....

Nothing aimed at you Ciaran mate.

There were no personal attacks as far as I can see. Had there been I would step in an do something about it. Sorry you felt that way. But I think you just misunderstood us.

Rich, Your perfectly welcome to have an opinion if no one thought any different of anything in the world it would be a boring place and all of us would be driving identical focus's or something.

But when was the last time any of us kept at a perfect 70mph on the motorway? And when you did how many other people went flying past you at the time? Most people on the motorway from my experiance seem to keep to 85 and over. Why not raise the limit? The autobahn has less accidents than our motorways do and you can do 150mph+ on the thing.

I have been on some national speed limit roads and just thought no way is it a safe road to do 60. And some of them I have though this should be higher I can easily get away with doing 90 down here.
