cjgpers Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 Just got the following answer from the DVLA about whether the Sensodrive is classed as a MANUAL or AUTO from a driving licence point of view: A vehicle with automatic transmission means a class of vehicle in which either- a. the driver is not provided with any means whereby he may vary the gear ratio between the engine and the road wheels independently of the accelerator and the brakes, or b. he is provided with such means but they do not include a clutch pedal or lever which he may operate manually. If the transmission can comply with the above definition it would render the vehicle automatic and as such may be driven by the holder of automatic driving entitlement. However, if the vehicle has a clutch pedal or lever this may render the vehicle manual. I would therefore suggest you contact the manufacturer to establish their views. This seems to contradict what a dealer told me. He said that because there was no "creep" with the Sensodrive it was classed as a MANUAL car making it ideal for driving schools! Quote
gar200 Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 My reading of the DVLA description is that it would be classed as manual as you have the gear 'levers' on the steering column. So the dealer is right in saying its manual. Quote
hertsnminds Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 My V5C form describes the car as C3 Pluriel Auto and says it is category M1, not that I can find out what category M1 is anywhere Ian Orange 03 Senso Quote
