wozza Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Once your over 25 though insurance drops so much. Under that though on anything above a group 10 with low ncb you just have to bend over and take it. Mate of mine is paying £1600 on a 1.2 8v punto with 55hp. Thats the lowest he could get as well. Rich_Eason Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 My worst quote I think I ever had was 17 year old driving 1990 1275 Mini Cooper - £1170 third party :( From what I can remember I got it down to high £600. Dread to think what the yoof of today are paying....if anything at all. I strongly suspect Mummy and Daddy are paying. Quote
wozza Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 See I could have done that but I would prefer to have my own insurance it works out better in the longrun. And in all fairness its not like im driving a crappy car doing it on my own insurance. Quote
dave&trace Posted October 3, 2006 Author Posted October 3, 2006 Hardly an old fossil! Not even 30 yet! £340 Fully Comp with the AA - VTS 180 They have great difficulty in knowing what the car is but got there in the end. thats a very good quote where do you live though that makes a huge difference? Stuey Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 my 1.4 VTR is £651 down from £1200 last year. I'm with the AA too, they seem to be the cheapest around at the moment... Quote
Rich_Eason Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 But complete bunch of nuggets at renewl....be warned. They tried to convince me to change my vehicle details from C4 Coupe to 3 door hatchback to get my renewl price lower. The fact that in doing this would also invalidate my new insurace was the bit they "forgot" to tell me. They also tried the incredibly hard sell tactics and told them to stick it both up their pipe. Worth the hassle of complaining as you do get something back for your hassles. Apparently the operator has gone for "re-training" Quote
wozza Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 It is a hatchback though. The boot is a hatch it has 3 doors. Coupe just means "to Cut" Why its impossibly to have a 4 door coupe even though Mercedes would have us belief different. Quote
Stuey Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 I have no loyalty when it comes to insurance. If another company offers me a cheaper premium I will call the company I am with and give them the chance to match it, if they cant then I go with the new company. I was with Performance Direct last year and the AA undercut them by £300 so I went with them. Same with mobile phones really, if O2 wont give me the phone I want free then I will go to Orange who will etc etc Quote
wozza Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Sma ewith insurance however going on my mobile phone couldnt leave O2 now been with them 5 years and my contract gets massive reductions a month plus free upgrades and occasionally just credit £100 to my account for having it so long etc. Not giving up that! However my V5 describes my VTS as a "Coupe" not "Hatchback"... :( If the two docs dont align more chance they have of getting out of a claim Quote

Argue the toss with them and they eventually give up and give you it at the online discoutned price. Tip with the AA Also get online quotations at 30 days, 21 days 10 and 7 and watch it get more expensive as the renewal date closes in....save all quotes and then refer them to the cheapest ! You then get the insurance at the cheaper proce Quote
wozza Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Further proving insurance is a joke. It should have a fixed price for postcode, age range car group mileage. and cost rather than the random quotes people seem to get now. If one company can give me insurance for £1200 how the hell can the other justify £5000? Quote
Rich_Eason Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Wozza - I share your thoughts exactly. Its worth the arguments to get them to admit that it is all tosh. My theory is unfortunatly you are just paying to make yourself legal. :( Still to this day they have never explained why as a returning customer I am effectivly being quoted nearly 200quid more for the same "product" I can buy as a "brand new" customer. One excuse was to cover admin costs! at 200 notes?! Quote
wozza Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 They would have the same admin costs if a new customer came back...infact they would probably have more! Its just legal robbery we need it therefore they can charge what they like. Quote
Stuey Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 there are loads of examples of "new customer" Vs "old customer". A collegue got a renemal qoute about £50 cheaper then the previous year then phoned his insurance company at posed as a new customer, same postcode just different house number and got about £200 off his quote...at least Dick Turpin wore a mask!! Quote
wozza Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 You would really think people would be rewarded with there loyalty but nope. I think its cause a lot of people dont check other companies when its due again. And just basically cant be bothered and dont realise they could get it cheaper. Quote
hertsnminds Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Insurance has nothing to do with how it benefits the customer i.e giving you cover for what you insure. It is a financial product with a risk assessment and every financial institution has set amounts of money they put asside and different risk ratings. So if you apply at a time when they are close to their financial target you get a poor quote. If you do not match the risk profile you get a poor quote. Apply when they have lots of funds available and match the low risk criteria they have have set and you get a good quote. It's as simple as that. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
NightFly Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 I was with Tesco's a few years back cos they were the cheapest. When the kid I mentioned in another topic did a U ey on me, they wouldn't provide me with a courtesy car until the kid admitted liability! They were awful, they lost paperwork twice, and the write off report had to be redone cos they lost the paperwork on that too! If you use them, drive carefully! I asked Direct Line for a quote on my new C4, (currently driving a clapped out Brava 1.6SX Auto), and it's going to be £50 cheaper!! Work that one out! Obviously not complaining, I can afford some new car mats now! Quote
