Welshguy Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 Just picked up the C4 from Auto Body Perfections this morning. The guys there are legends...the damage caused by the van driver has now been repaired, and the 'sideskirts', door handles and B Pillars have been colour coded. Also my special 'VT' badges have been added to the sideskirts. The car was also washed and vacumed. Can't ask for much more! The car will now (asap) be booked in with a friend of mine for a machine polish and detail (check out CleanWORX Detailing. Can't wait! Pictures to follow.... :D  :D Quote
wozza Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 Did you get the standard VT bumper put on in the end or get the VTR bumper? Quote
Welshguy Posted October 6, 2006 Author Posted October 6, 2006 Settled for the standard VT Bumper. Looks good though :D Quote

Stuey Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 looks sweet dude, but WTF is dangling from your rear view mirror!?!?!?! :D Quote
Welshguy Posted October 6, 2006 Author Posted October 6, 2006 lol A Red Nose Day airfresher - a gift when I passed my test! :D Quote
wozza Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 Looking good mate! Guessing you did not get the A pillars done as well? The Small triangle there? And get some tyre shine on there! The tyres are making the alloys look less bling lol. You have front tints dont you? Just looking as there quite subtle. Quote
Welshguy Posted October 6, 2006 Author Posted October 6, 2006 Hey Wozza, Cheers! I didn't get the A pillars done...didn't really occur to me really as they are sooo small - might have them done at a later date though. lol yeah RE: tyre shine - the car is (like I said) getting booked in for a full machine detail - can't wait! Picture will of course follow! Yeah I do have front tints - there were 3 grades to choose from when I had them done...and I went for the 2nd darkest at the rear windows, and the 1st lightest for the front driver and passenger window. Blends from front to back nicely and ensures I'm still visable from the outside...a fact that has probably prevented me from getting pulled and ticked off. :D Quote
ham's c4vts Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 looks nice mate, didnt you try the dealer for a vt bage or get the vts badge as the s is seperate? like Wozza said...... Tyre Shine, looks like a smart suit with dirty shoes! :D it'll look a beaut with the tyres done and can we cal you evil due to your number plate? :D :D :P :D Quote
wozza Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 I really wanna get my car machine polished i was thinking of buying myself a PC i mean its got to be easier than doing it by hand. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 oooooh watch that paint and get a paint thickness gauge! i personally wouldnt bother mate, specially on a "new car". you'll probably find people who do that dont bother washing, polishing and waxing their cars very often and the car had been washed with a sponge in the past. Quote
wozza Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 i have swirls in mine from taking it to a hand carwash place i want it perfect again hence machine polisher....Plus it can be used to apply wax etc on a lower setting and buff it off nicer. A pC is a random orbit polisher so not as bad for paint as a rotary. Quote
Mike5483 Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Its not just a case of turning the polisher on and rubbing hard, you have different pads, different speeds etc. You can get rid of swirls using hand stuff. You need an oily polish, and microfibre cloths. Quote
wozza Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 I know all that :-P And the swirls are rather bad and have you ever tried using megs scratch X? IT takes bloody ages to do a small section. Id be at it all day. Quote
Welshguy Posted October 7, 2006 Author Posted October 7, 2006 Cheers for the positive comments guys - Will definately be doing a machine polish though...its quicker and easier, and if done right, will not take much paint off at all. Standard modern car paint is roughly 200 microns thick..and a detail (done properly) will need to take no more than 5-6 microns. :D Quote
wozza Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Trust me it takes bloody ages to get the paint down. One of the guys on think its detailing world or one of the PC users at the clio forum did it. Took him ages to get down to bare metal with it and i mean ages. Destroyed a few pads in the process. He just wanted to see how long it would take using very harsh cutting compounds it took 2 of them going at one area constantly swapping over due to getting tired etc over an hour to get down. Just dd it as an experiment to prove the paint will cope basically on an old bonnet they had lying around. Theres a thread over at clio sport showing just what these machines can do though. And how well they can bring up old destroyed looking paint. If you want to see what they can do check this thread out over there. http://cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=143668 Quote
wozza Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 No mines still shiny just not perfect lol. Got a nice stone chip i noticed today on my splitter as well. Taken a right big chunk out. Quote
Welshguy Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 I'm not sure about other colours but black paint really shows up the cobwebbing effort of poor washing technique and day to day containients hitting the car. As for the VT badge...all the badges I looked at (VTR / VTR) had the R or S attached, so I didn't want to have to cut and chop etc. There is now a nice VT R set of badges on ebay...but they weren't there when I ordered mine! The number plate? Yes I'm EVL :P Quote
