C4VTS Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 I have been given a VW Golf hire car for business use until end of tuesday. It's a 56 reg 1.4S with aircon and 1,500 miles on the clock. Not driven it yet, and will not bother until monday, but the build quality does not feel as good as my C4. Just thought it might of interest on how it compares to a C4, and my initial impression is that the C4 feels better quality inside, and certainly looks better on the outside. http://aycu25.webshots.com/image/6064/2002160848965054398_rs.jpghttp://aycu23.webshots.com/image/5622/2002177647445096238_rs.jpg Quote
wozza Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Im not a big of the newer golfs the Mk1 and MKII were the best i used to own a MKii. 1.8 was fairly quick as well and good fun. Just dont make them witht he same feel as they used to. Not a fan of how the design has gone everytime it gets newer i like them less. But the new GTI interior is rather nice the seats especially. Was in a MKIV demo car though when i was looking at audio gear didnt feel anywhere near as well put together as mine he had more rattles the plastics felt very cheap in comaprison. Once he got in my car he loved it. Quote
Mike5483 Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 That interior.... Its awful!!! Its soooo dull... Yawn!!! Quote
wozza Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Not sure if im the only one who does this but everycar i get in now doesnt matter which is it the interior usually looks so dated in comparison to the C4's. Plus your never gonna get the reaction of "it looks like something out of startrek" in another car like i have with the C4. Quote
C4VTRhdi Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 My gilrfriend has a new VW golf and the interior is very dull but id say the build quality is better the C4 isnt far off but its not quite there yet, the Golf also never rattles and feels much more solid to be honest. Quote
Stuey Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 the golf is well screwed together I agree but we have an '04 plate with about 80K on the clock at that is rattling and banging and things are always falling off it. I drove it over the weekend and the glove box door fell off over a speed bump...overall very dull to drive and look at. I am not looking forward to the day when the C4 goes as I will have to get used to a normal interior... Quote
wozza Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Theres an excuse to buy a corvette for the HUD display! Quote
Stuey Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Theres an excuse to buy a corvette for the HUD display! good argument!! ZO6 I reckon...oh hang it, its american so therefore it is rubbish. BMW M6 has one, but that is rubbish too... flame on Wozza... Quote
wozza Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 The Z06 is anything but rubbish! Id have on in an instant...then again im an American car fan. Id love an older Corvette stingray or a camaro etc 60's one. But the new vette is a very very capable car. M6 Is also a very good car but the price and the looks put me off looks nice from the back but the front end looks awful! I have had better looking shits. Quote
lee_marshuk Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 I have had better looking shits PMSL! Quote
C4VTS Posted October 10, 2006 Author Posted October 10, 2006 I am back home now after 2 days in the Bristol area. The Golf was ok to drive with no rattles clonks or squeaks! and the handling and ride quality was good too. Just typical Audi/VW I guess. :oThe interior is very grey and plasticky, but I found there was better accomodation for all my incar gadgets than the C4. :D The seats were firm but comfy, but I was starting to get an ache in my right shoulder, but no problems with backache, which I had got in the new Focus. The 1.4 engine was quite smooth and quiet, but somewhat lacking in power as expected compared to my VTS :P I am glad to be back with my C4. :D Quote
