Afternoon All,

I've managed to rebuild the COM2000 unit on my wife's Xsara but made a wrong assumption when I was removing it from the car initially.  It was late and I was tired and I assumed the colour coding on the steering column 2-wire airbag connectors would be matched by the COM2000 sockets - but of course they weren't :(

So, I have four cables from the steering column to the back of the COM2000 unit; two are multiway, colour-coded and match sockets on the COM2000.  The other two (airbag connections) are two-wire each, one with a blue plug, one with a brown plug, both with two yellow/orange wires.

The two plugs are the same, and there appears to be no differentiation on the back of the com2000.  I could argue that I should follow the colour coding of the multiways mentioned above but experience has taught me well not to make guesses about things that go bang!

Can anyone help, please?

Regards, Mike

OK, I'm a dummy :(

I rechecked the connectors with a magnifyer (I'm waiting on a cataract operation so my glasses aren't much use) and discovered that the two harness/airbag connectors ARE different; they look the same but they have a small key on the side which is slightly different.

Result is that the connectors are handed and can only go one way; in this case, the brown connector goes to the same side as the brown multiconnector (bottom right looking from the steering wheel).  Problem solved.

As Mr Shakespeare said "much ado about nothing".

Regards, Mike

PS I did learn something useful about resetting the airbag coil connector - the thing the airbag plugs into behind the steering wheel - and I'll do a "how to" when I get a minute.
