Hi guys,

I have a W plate Pug Expert E7 taxi (I know it's not a Citroen but the Pug forum is crap!) that I'm converting into a day camper but it's proving to be a pain in the arse. The temperature gauge suggests that it never goes above 70 degrees and takes ages to reach that too. However, it appears to be overheating as the coolant is spraying out of the reservoir tank lid. I replaced the lid and thermostat but there is no change. Does anyone know what's happening here? My diagnostic tool is mirroring the temperature gauge so hopefully that's ok.

Hope someone can help me because I'm stumped!

Thank you

Maybe the temp sensor is faulty (reading low) so that it is not starting the engine fan when it gets too hot. On our Citroens the fan comes on at 96°C and then off at 94°C. A new sensor will be about £20-30 and probably on the gearbox end of the cylinder head. A good indication will be if the thermostat opens and hot water goes to the radiator top hose whilst the gauge still shows cold - probably opens about 90°C but will be stamped on the thermostat. If it is not actaully getting hot then maybe the head gasket has failed.

That would make sense because the top hose is getting hot (now that I replaced the thermostat anyway) so that sounds like what I should do. I certainly hope it's not the head gasket, these things are impossible to get into. Do you guys have to remove the engine to do certain common jobs?

Thank you very much, I'll let you know how I get on.

I replaced the sensor but it hasn't made any difference unfortunately. I'm stuck, I really don't know what it is. Could it be the water pump? How can I check to see if it's working?

Cheers

This is my first post so I would like to say hello to everybody.

I have got similar problem with my Citroen Dispatch, 60 plate, 1.6HDI.

The temperature gauge is going above 90 and when rich 96 the fans starting, that is ok but coolant leaking from header tank, the pressure looks like is very high.. radiator top pipe is very hot and the bottom one its just warm, radiator itself is deadly cold. Engine running smooth and you can feel power, nothing is coming from tail pipe, no white or black smoke. When engine is cold e.g. after night then just before start if you remove header tank cap you will find that system is under pressure. Any ideas?

I have not resolve above problem yet, but I have another one or two.. Not sure to start another topic so I will continue here.. and if I am wrong then please move it to right section.

First - screenwash pump does not working.. I've fixed new one but no joy. Where is a fuse for that.. cos I found a few places with no easy access.. One under bonnet, one under dashboard.. and one next to battery..

Second - Reverse light and parking sensor working properly only when engine is cold.. When I move away from my driveway it's working fine.. and when engine is hot after few miles, then parking sensor or lights does not working at all.. Some times when gear stick is moved a bit it's working but mostly not at all. What is the problem, oil level or density or reverse switch itself..? And where is the oil level check point for g/box?

If you do not have a handbook for the van you can read/save/print them from the service.citroen site http://service.citroen.com/ddb/

From the handbook for 1/4/2010 to 28/2/2011, on page 121, the front and rear wash pump fuse is listed for the engine fusebox, fuse 3, 10 amp. To access the fuses it gives :

FUSES UNDER THE BONNET

- After opening the bonnet, slide the

screenwash support to make access

easier.

- Unclip and tilt the box to access the

fuses.

The rear lights/parking sensors not working are likely due to a problem with the reverse switch, possibly it has worn down. It should be located on top of the gearbox. You could remove it and then push and hold in its plunger to see if the lights/parking sensors then work, or remove the electrical connector and bridge its contacts.

The gearbox probably does not have an oil level plug, you should check for any leaks. If you want to check the level, the oil should be drained out and the correct amount put back in through the top vent or the reverse switch opening.
