Z3M Roadster Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 After being without a second car for a week the money was starting to seriously burn a hole in my pocket. Looked at a couple of ropey motors this week but chanced upon this beauty this morning and made the purchase, can't wait to collect it next weekend. Crap photos as I had to MMS them as I don't have my bluetooth dongle. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c298/alexlomas/VX220/DSC00027.jpghttp://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c298/alexlomas/VX220/DSC00029.jpghttp://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c298/alexlomas/VX220/DSC00030.jpg Quote
Stuey Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 I never used to like the look of that car but I am warming too it know... Is it the VXR or is it just a red one?? let us know what its like out on the country roads!! Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted October 14, 2006 Author Posted October 14, 2006 Couldn't stretch to the VXR, but managed to find a 2.2NA which looks like it. Live in the middle of nowhere, so plenty of quick country roads to explore. Quote
Mike5483 Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Very Nice (for a Vauxhall)!!! Nah seriously, its a good looking motor. Wish I had that sort of money buring holes in my pockets!!! Quote
wozza Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Prefer the Elise styling but the Vauxhalls deffinately get the better engine line up. And there cheaper seeing more and more vx's about really gaining in popularity at the moment among people after a quick fun car. But hey i prefer that to the Z3. By a massive amount never liked the Z3 always hated that car for some reason. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted October 15, 2006 Author Posted October 15, 2006 I like the S2 styling and would have liked a Toyota engined car, but too much money for a weekend toy. S1 elises are all starting to look tired especially inside and the K series rover engines are pretty crap and destined for head gasket failure. As you say the VX benefits from more power than the elise and this one is completely unmarked inside and out. I like the styling and is certainly rarer than the elise. Quote
Stuey Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 your name doesnt really work anymore though ;) my weekend car... clicky!! Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted October 15, 2006 Author Posted October 15, 2006 If only that was in my price range! I do know someone with one and they sound fantastic Quote

As you say the VX benefits from more power than the elise and this one is completely unmarked inside and out. I like the styling and is certainly rarer than the elise. The K series engine is a fantastic unit. Lightweight, rev happy and powerful for its size even now. How many NA 1.4's develop 103BHP, not many if any at all. The 'Sandwich' design is now being copied by many Japanese car companies. If the K series is so crap, why did Lotus and Caterham use it??? Because for a sportscar, there was no other engine available that could offer the lightweight, compactness and performance of a K. It is also a well known fact, that used in these cars, the K suffered from far less HGF than wheb fitted in Rovers and MG's, mainly because it has less work to do and because it was modified before fitting. Dont velieve everything you hear on Watchdog!!! Quote
Stuey Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 If only that was in my price range! I do know someone with one and they sound fantastic I wish it was mine...driving it a few times a month is awesome but I dont know if I could live with it... Quote

F*ck there is alot of work!!!!!!! :o <_< ;) Quote
Mike5483 Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Some people have got too much money!!! Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 There is a slight difference between a new car (just for the weekends) and a r/c truck and D-SLR :o :o Also, the truck was a birthday present (this year) from MARCH!!! Just had problem after problem <_< :D just used it for 30 mins today, and the electrics are f*cked! <_< :( My bank statement will be £0 tommorow :( So not too much money! ;) :D Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted October 15, 2006 Author Posted October 15, 2006 Some people have got too much money!!! Am only 25 once, so am making the most of it while I can afford it. Before the girlfriend gets ideas of marriage and children! Quote
wozza Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 when your bank statement reads -£1748 for one -£2500 for the other and the other in positive then you can say you have no money. I had to pay my tuition fees which i owed uni  i should not have actually had to pay them but they said they werent going to give me free tuition cause i changed universities and courses. Quote
Mike5483 Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Well there is no way I could even begin to think about running 2 cars, and I'm 23!!! The cheapest VX220 I can see on Autotrader is £10000, not an insubstantial amout of money by any means!!! To say Im jealous would be very true!!! Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted October 15, 2006 Author Posted October 15, 2006 You have a better C4 than me though  Quote
Stuey Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 but yours is a company car so you have had to pay exactly £0  Quote
Stuey Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 he shouldnt have to pay it, the company normally pays it... Quote
sammys hdi vts Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I was very close to getting the vx220 before the c4. It was only when i realised how hard it is to get in and out of the vx and its impracticalities that I went for a c4 vts at about the same price. Still want one though, might upgrade to a tvr tuscan at some point, 380bhp sounds fun and a 2000 reg with 30k on the clock is about £16k at the mo. Dont think i would survive long mind before I crash. Are they one of the best looking sports cars?http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n104/andrew_seal/redtuscan.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n104/andrew_seal/blacktuscanrear.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n104/andrew_seal/tuscaninterior.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n104/andrew_seal/blacktuscan.jpg Quote
Stuey Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I saw one for sale for 12K a few weeks ago...I very nearly went to the bank and got a loan and kept it as a track car... Quote
wozza Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Great looking cars those although I prefer the Sagaris. Love the thing will own one someday. Just they have not got the reputation as being themost reliable and well built cars. Just have to show a picture lol as i love the look of them. Typical TVR styling in that its a bit out there. http://www.motordesktop.com/wallpaper/supercars/TVR%20Sagaris%20-%201024x768.jpg Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted October 16, 2006 Author Posted October 16, 2006 But what about company car tax?! Yup, I get hit on tax hence the reason for choosing a low spec C4. Tax is calculated on the list price of the car among other things. I also get taxed on my free fuel. Steer clear of the Speed 6 TVRs, more unreliable than any other. The early Tuscans have all had their engines rebuilt and those that haven't should be avoided at all costs. Go for a 5litre Chimaera or Griff if you are after a proper tvr. Quote
wozza Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 They had GM V8's didnt they came out of a buick if i remember correctly. Just given some british tuning. Hence why there were actually good and didnt produce around 180bhp from stupid size engines. Quote
