philstott1983 Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 How are people connection their I-Pod's to their C4 factory head unit? Is there a product that can be recommended, preferably that also charges the I-Pod whilst driving, and can display song info but mainly just to get the songs playing through it. Thought about one of those things that go into your ariel input, but noticed the head uni now has a different ariel input socket. ;) Quote
Stuey Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 most people are using the 9703 AG lead, available from dealers. Or you could go the simpler route and get a transmitter from play.com for about £25. All you have to do is it scan the car radio for the frequency an roberts your mothers brother... Quote
Stuey Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 I've got a 9706AG. Is that a typo Stuey? as always ;) couldnt remember the part number...I am going to get one of those FM transmitters I think. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 I have that cable to. I also have an LCD screen that connects to the ipod so i can change tracks safely. It is alright to see the track name, but too small to see the artist (on the go!) in the daytime, at night it is illuminated by a blue light, but that makes it hard to see words. Overall it makes my life with music in the car very easy! It does suck battery life out of the ipod though!!! I will get a piccie up soon!It keeps the ipod hidden, and i can hide the wires.I keep on meaning to get around to file a small hole where i keep the ipod so that the door can shut properly, but it works very well at the moment! philstott1983 Posted October 15, 2006 Author Posted October 15, 2006 I've got a 9706AG. In using the 9706AG lead, I take it being the Citroen part number, would it be Plug and Play or is a degree of software changing required on the computer i.e. to enable it. Maybe i should not i dont have any rear/forward parking sensors, or a disc changer so all connections in the back of my head unit, bar power and speakers, are free. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 You will need to take the car into a citroen dealership so that they can enble the aux port 1 or 2(?). I am sure someone will tell you the right one tonight! ;) Then it is a case of being ripped off and getting citroen to fit it for you OR: fitting it yourself (easy work!!!).Fit it yourself! Right, off to take pics of my setup. They will be on here sortly. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 ive got the harman kardon drive and play, should be able to get it cheaper than here though ;) http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shop/p...roducts_id=1112 Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Ham, did you have it installed by a professional or yourself? and where did you put the display?any pics?Cheers Quote
philstott1983 Posted October 15, 2006 Author Posted October 15, 2006 Think id prefer to buy the cable and run it through the stereo rather than buy the harman kardon. I aint a fan myself of adding extra things to the dashboard, like the screen of this, or un-necessary buttons. I like a nice, clean, prestince C4 dashboard! Quote
Mat Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 ...Then it is a case of being ripped off and getting citroen to fit it for you OR: fitting it yourself (easy work!!!).... You wont necessarily get ripped off. The cable costs £23. My dealer said if i wanted to fit it, they would then enable the AUX port, which they did for free. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 I am talking about citroen taking you for a ride for actually fitting the cable! They quoted me £90!! <_< <_< ;) Quote
philstott1983 Posted October 15, 2006 Author Posted October 15, 2006 Would i be right in thinking that fitting the lead would be purely a case of, on end straight into the stereo, the other one routed to where the ipod is going to be connected? If so, can see myself fitting the lead myself, being possible because i have hands! Quote

If so, can see myself fitting the lead myself, being possible because i have hands! Pretty much, yes. The kit comes in bits; the cable (3 wires) with molex crimps, and a molex connector. You have to put the three wires into the corect holes of the connector, as per the instructions, and then simply plug the connector into the socket on the back of your radio. Tidy the cable to whereever you want (some people poke it into the glove box, i drilled a little hole in the back of the storage slot above the LCD screen in the centre). Finally plug in your Ipod (or any other 3.5mm jack device). ham's c4vts Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 yes i fitted it my self ill take some pics and send the to wozza to post tomorrow. Quote
LeoTheHamster Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Get a decent headunit with an Aux In, or even better one with iPod control  Quote
wozza Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 ^I suggested that on his other thread when he wanted bluetooth. But he went and got the C4 standard bluetooth system instead for a rather large sum of cash. So with that i dont think he will want to change units. Although it would have been the best way if you he ipod control too. Think the harmon kardon unit ham suggested is about the best way if you want control. The other systems are not compatible with the C4. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 i know you shouldnt rely on the rear parking sensors, but its a shame you cant put the aftermarket stereos in the cars with parking sensors :( Quote
philstott1983 Posted October 17, 2006 Author Posted October 17, 2006 If you dont need the parking sensors, send them to me! The missus wants to drive it but i said i'd have to have rear AND front parking sensors fitted first!!!! Suppose I can understand her view, M reg Corsa ....... Citroen C4? :( Quote
philstott1983 Posted November 14, 2006 Author Posted November 14, 2006 This goes back to some time ago but im sure thats irrelevant! I bought an FM modulator to run my ipod into the back of my stereo, waste of £40, the thing is cr@p. So, i've got my money back and got the lead 9706.AG I havent fitted this yet but if the back of the headunit is looked at (original one), the aerial input is on the left and the speaker/power inputs are to the right. All i want to check is that the stereo has two aux inputs, but how will i know which one i connect the 9706.AG to, to tell the dealer which aux input to enable? Does that make sense? I just want to know which one im connecting it to, to ensure i ask the dealer to enable the right thing incase they're having 'an off day'. Not essential but is there only the aux ports that are disabled, and if not what else is in the software but disabled until required? Quote
Mike5483 Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 This thread might be of some use to you. I made a holder for my MP3 player, a Sony Walkman one. Its in the dash drawer to the right of the steering wheel. The pictures are on the the 2nd or 3rd pages. Also some info on fitting the cable, getting it enabled etc. Quote
captainsensible Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 The connector supplied with the 9706AG cable will only go into one of the ports on the rear of your HU - although they look the same, they are not (they actually mirror each other). If you are looking at your HU from the rear, the left hand port is the one the cable connects to; the other port is for the CD Changer. There is only 1 aux port to enable in the Citroen software - ignore what the manual that comes with the cable says about 2 ports; thats for a different HU. Quote
philstott1983 Posted November 16, 2006 Author Posted November 16, 2006 Cheer's captain!!!! And mikey, the comment "This thread might be of some use to you." you didnt put a thread?!?! Quote
