captainsensible Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Hi, I know this has been gone over lots of times, but before I pull my HU out, does anyone know for certain if having both the CD changer AND the bluetooth option means AUX 1 AND 2 are both used, therefore making the 9706AG cable useless? It suddenly occurred to me that the bluetooth needs to integrate with the HU somehow, I just hope its not via the AUX 2.... Quote
philstott1983 Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 I have bluetooth car kit in mine, the Parrot VH3000 and this doesnt use one of the AUX input's It connected into the back of the headunit but I had to buy a seperate wiring adapter to convert from the style of connection on the back of the stereo (the factory fitted one) into the ISO cables. Cost £20 of eBay Don't know of any bluetooth options using the AUX, would be interesting if there was.... Quote
captainsensible Posted October 27, 2006 Author Posted October 27, 2006 That sounds interesting - hopefully the factory fit bluetooth will be the same! It at least sounds worth whipping the HU out now... Cheers. Quote
captainsensible Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 Well, aux 2 was free, so connected the cable to it ok, getting it enabled on Monday! Quote
captainsensible Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 Well, then again, maybe not!!! I am at a bit of a loss as to whats happening (or rather, what is not happening!). According to everything I have read here and also the instructions with the 9706AG cable, there should be 2 aux connections that can be controlled by the Citroen Proxia software - forgetting for the moment that I have factory fitted bluetooth, aux 1 should be being used by my CD changer, and indeed had cables attached to pins 4,10 & 11. The aux 2 pins (1,2 & 7) were free so I fitted the 9706AG cable to those. When I went to the Citroen dealer today, they plugged it in and in their menus, the only aux connection visible was aux 1, and this was showing as having hands free kit fitted. There was absolutely no entry for aux 2 at all and it did confirm I have a RD4 head unit fitted. After much head scratching, one of the mechanics went to phone Citroen and came back with "as I have factory fitted hands free, the aux 1 setting does not need to be set to hands free kit", so opted to amend this to 'conventional' mode. This then allows me to cycle between radio (which still works), cd changer (which still works) and aux input - unfortunately this gets no signal from my mp3 player at all - it does however make my hands free stop working properly - not totally, but its not right - I can make a call from the steering wheel and can hear the person I have rung through the car speaker system, but I cannot end the call from the steering wheel/HU - previously this was working perfectly! I can only surmise that Aux 1 is definitely configured to interact with the hands free; aux 2 seems to missing completely and I have no idea how the cd changer is connected at all. I suspect that the only way I will get this to work is to have aux 1 switched back to hands free kit fitted, and try fitting the 9706AG cable to pins 4,10 & 11 - this may have the effect of disabling the cd changer though! I really wanted this to work, as although I was aware that the bluetooth option is not compatible with the JBL or satnav (of which I have neither), nowhere does it clearly say that the MP3 harness is not compatible with the CD changer and factory fitted bluetooth.... Can ANYONE else shed any light on this (particularly the lack of aux 2 info on the proxia system!)? :o Quote
captainsensible Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 Anyone??? P.S. I am aware the title says mp4 harness - this is obviously meant to be mp3! Quote
wozza Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 KFK printed a list up of all the options available to be enabled on the C4 think AUX2 needs to be enabled before you can do anything with it. Or could they not enable the port? Also changed topic title for you to MP3. Quote
captainsensible Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 Cheers for updating the title! The port wasn't listed - only aux 1 was there. I have found the the thread that lists all the options but nothing stands out immediately that implies that it would enable the selection of aux 2... I did find something on the Parkers forum that referred to someone whose dealer couldn't get aux 2 displayed on their computer, so maybe it has something to do with the proxia version?!? Obviously it doesn't help that the dealer I am using has never done this before... Quote
captainsensible Posted November 7, 2006 Author Posted November 7, 2006 The more I think about this the more I believe that previous things I have read about the cd changer being connected to aux 1 are just wrong.... My hands free will now only work if I have Aux input 1 selected on the HU - if its set to radio or cd then I don't hear anything. This leads me to believe that firstly, the wires going to aux 1 are ONLY for the hands free kit, and secondly, when aux 1 is set to 'Hands Free Kit Fitted' (or whatever it was in the proxia software) its interface with a mobile phone is auto-switching, so that the phone can be heard and controlled no matter which source is being listened to. Can anybody confirm 100% that, if they have a cd changer, its connected to aux 1 as I am pretty certain mine isn't and it works fine. Also, can anyone confirm that have had a 9706AG cable connected to aux 2 and it be enabled by the proxia software successfully? It might be helpful to say where this was, if possible. Thanks! Quote
captainsensible Posted November 7, 2006 Author Posted November 7, 2006 Right, have had a further play with this - getting the feeling also that I am the only one interested in this as well! :P On the rear of my RD4 head unit there are 2 block connectors; 1 is white and 1 is black - they look similar but are not interchangeable as they are mirrored in terms of how they connect to the head unit connector. The black one is solely for the cd changer, the white one is for auxiliary input - in my case, the white one is being used by the hands free kit, using pins 4, 10 & 11 (which is therefore, aux 1). The MP3 cable (9706AG) has to be wired to the same pins if it is to use aux 1 - therefore it is not compatible if the factory fit bluetooth is installed. I have tried also, to plug the MP3 cable into the socket occupied by the black connector but with this configuration the 'source' button simply doesn't find a connected cd changer so it doesn't work at all... I think I am right in saying that if you have a cd changer and no bluetooth, then the port for the MP3 cable is vacant and it can be used and enabled - if you don't have a cd changer then the same applies as the MP3 cable will only fit into one of the ports. However, if you have factory fitted bluetooth, then the MP3 cable option is a complete no-no, whether you have a cd changer or not! Also, the 'aux 2' option doesn't, I believe, exist on RD4 head units - there is only 1 aux input, as stated above. I am well gutted about this, to be honest... Does anyone else care? :D Quote
Rich_Eason Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 yes, we just dont know the answers to your questions... :P Quote
captainsensible Posted November 7, 2006 Author Posted November 7, 2006 I think I have figured out the answers now, so hopefully its helped someone! Quote
